'Devil May Cry' Showrunner, 40, Promises a "Very Different" Season 2
Image
Devil May Cry is an iconic video game franchise that brings back so many memories for individuals of a certain age. Netflix decided to bring the demon hunter, Dante (Johnny Yong Bosch), to the small screen in its animated series of the same name, and the first season proved to be incredibly successful. Dante's skirmishes and battles with the demons from Hell, led by the White Rabbit (Hoon Lee), culminated in the season finale wherein the barrier separating the Human World and Hell split. The animated series was created by Adi Shankar and Alex Larsen, with the series renewed for a second season just one week after its debut on Netflix. Having only recently arrived, a second season of Devil May Cry might still be a ways off, but Shankar is already teasing what audiences might expect.

Taking to his personal X account, producer and showrunner Shankar revealed some thoughts...

3 Reasons Why 2007’s ‘Devil May Cry: The Animation’ Is Better Than the Netflix Anime and 3 Reasons It’s Not
Image
The recent release of the 2025 Netflix adaptation of Devil May Cry has naturally garnered many comparisons with its 2007 Japanese animated series by Madhouse. It’s safe to say both offer unique takes on the franchise.

Dante is at the forefront of both adaptations but is portrayed quite differently in each. The same goes for Lady’s character, who has garnered much controversy for her portrayal in Netflix’s Devil May Cry. Nonetheless, neither of these animated series matched the video game’s stylishness and storyline.

Seasoned fans of the Devil May Cry franchise can’t come to a consensus about which one is the best, although the 2007 one is looking much better for one very specific reason. Both of them have their flaws and individual strengths.

The 2007 anime is a better portrayal of Dante, the protagonist of Devil May Cry Dante from Devil May Cry.

“A voice that shaped my childhood”: ‘Devil May Cry’ Casting Kevin Conroy Became Adi Shankar’s Dream Come True
Image
Netflix’s Devil May Cry is making a lot of noise and for all the right reasons, as the series has become one of the greatest video game adaptations as it brings the enchanting video game by Capcom to the world of animation. The series is being celebrated because of its brilliant narrative, evolving characters, marvelous animation quality, and the story flow.

However, there is one more aspect that helped the series earn fame and recognition in a big way. This aspect is the voice acting of the cast who played the characters within the Devil May Cry and one character in particular was a fan-favorite. This character is none other than Vice President Baines, who was played by the late actor Kevin Conroy.

Who Are The Villains Teased At The End Of Netflix's Devil May Cry?
Image
Netflix's first tussle with Dante (Johnny Yong Bosch), the demon slayer, has come to an end in "Devil May Cry," teeing up another chapter that will have fans of the long-running video game franchise itching to press their Devil Trigger and see what happens next. Fighting its way to becoming one of the best animated shows on Netflix for some, things ended with Dante seemingly being taken out of action and Vice President Baines (voiced by the late Kevin Conroy in one of his last roles outside his final stint as Batman) invading Makai, teeing up hell on Earth as a permanent situation.

The good news is that our dual-pistol-wielding hero will somehow bust free from captivity and fight the good fight to ensure the bad guys don't bring eternal darkness to humanity. Now the question is: Which villains will be there to try and stop Dante from completing his mission?...

‘Devil May Cry’ Cast and Character Guide: Who Voices Who in the Netflix Series?
Image
“Devil May Cry” – the latest Netflix animated series based on a video game – has finally arrived.

Steered by Ari Shankar, who was also responsible for the critically successful “Castlevania” series also at Netflix, the new “Devil May Cry” show brings the classic violent gunplay combat from the video game along with the grungy late ’90s/early ’00s vibe and music that was popular at the time of its original release.

Here are the familiar faces voicing the biggest characters in the new series in our complete “Devil May Cry” cast and character guide.

The Perfect Amulet In Netflix's Devil May Cry, Explained
Image
Adi Shankar's "Devil May Cry" is a labor of love, a passionate reinvention of the eponymous video game franchise that is known (and loved) for its signature eccentricity. Speed and agility are at the core of any "Dmc" gameplay, combined with highly-stylistic combat flourishes that can lead up to insane chain attacks and combos. Beneath these slick, over-the-top sensibilities (which have gifted the community with wondrous memes) lies dense, sprawling lore about demonic rebellions, primordial guardian swords, and the most complex, trauma-infused sibling relationship known to man.

While Netflix's "Devil May Cry" leans confidently towards the franchise's effortlessly cool aesthetics, it also brings the best parts of the often confusing video game lore to life. There are plenty of pleasant surprises here, as Shankar repackages familiar threads into something wholly different. For example, White Rabbit (Hoon Lee) — featured only in the "Devil May Cry 3" manga — is presented as the unexpected antagonist here,...

Castlevania (2017)
Devil May Cry (2025) Review: This Party’s Getting Crazy, Let’s Rock!
Castlevania (2017)
Netflix’s “Castlevania” requires no introduction. Based on the eponymous hack-and-slash roleplaying game series, “Castlevania” has helped set a significantly high bar for video game adaptations that reinvent its source material. Although the story beats are familiar, the series succeeds in delivering a horror-first, visceral vision of dark fantasy cushioned with beautifully fleshed-out characters. Adi Shankar, one of the executive producers of the “Castlevania” series, has taken it upon himself to infuse yet another popular video game franchise with a spirited adaptation brimming with heart.

The franchise in question is none other than “Devil May Cry,” an artistic entity so singular and eccentric that it altered the tint of ultra-stylistic chain attack combat since its first installment in 2001. This is not the first animated series to tackle “Dmc” with a spin, but it is one that will be remembered for its gutsy, wondrous exploration of the source material, which it clearly has deep respect for.

“I Wanted It to Feel Like a Giant Movie”: ‘Devil May Cry’ Creator Details How ‘The Dark Knight’ Inspired the Video Game Adaptation
Image
Nearly seven years sinceCastlevania producer Adi Shankar first acquired the rights to Devil May Cry, Capcom's demon hunter-for-hire Dante is finally about to grace our screens in smokin' sexy style. After a bevy of teasers in recent years, and even a new song from the band Evanescence celebrating the occasion, the animated series premieres on Netflix on April 3, and, according to the creator, it's about to be big. Shankar has previously stated his goal from the get-go was to make "one of the best shows on the Netflix platform, period," even if it took longer to get there eventually. In an interview with GamesRadar+, he's now sharing how Hollywood blockbusters like Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy inspired his journey to adapting the white-haired hero to television.

Shankar's Devil May Cry follows Dante as he battles against demons while sinister forces work to open a portal between the human and demon realms.

Devil May Cry Netflix Release Date & Time
Image
Capcom’s Devil May Cry is the most stylish goth-punk hack-and-slash video game series on the planet, and its long-awaited animated adaptation is finally coming to Netflix with dual guns blazing. The show’s creator, Adi Shankar (best known for his work on Castlevania), has a history of turning video games into impressive and successful animated series, so fans are in good hands with him at the helm. Based on the trailers alone, Devil May Cry will have all the over-the-top action, ridiculous one-liners, and nu metal anthems that fans of the game series could ever hope for.

At least part of what makes Netflix’s Devil May Cry so highly-anticipated by fans is just how long they’ve had to wait for it to finally come to fruition. The anime was first announced 7 years ago in 2018, but wasn’t officially shown off until 2023 with a first-look trailer. Even this...

Netflix’s ‘Devil May Cry’ Release Date, Full Cast, and Everything We Know So Far
Image
Devil May Cry deserves a great anime and by all means, it did get one in 2007. Netflix, however, is doing its take on the legendary video game series. The producer of Netflix’s Castlevania, Adi Shankar, is the creator of Netflix’s Devil May Cry so this isn’t his first rodeo and there’s some experience there.

The graphics will be significantly better than the 2007 Madhouse anime adaptation and it also brags a whole new voice cast. Shankar has plans to extend the animated series into a multi-season arc, similar to Castlevania. This is the only possible way to introduce more characters.

The trailer for Devil May Cry promises a faithful portrayal of Dante, the series’ protagonist. He will be voiced by Johnny Yong Bosch, who originally voiced Nero in the video games. There’s no hint of Nero being involved in the first season.

The Devil May Cry franchise is feeding its fans well. Not only does it have multiple games, light novels, manga, and an anime series, but now it has a new animated series by Netflix and Adi Shankar. It’s similar to Netflix’s Castlevania series, which Shankar served as a producer for.

Fans will witness the return of many favorite characters in Netflix’s animated adaptation. The most recent trailer for Devil May Cry ended with Vergil’s entrance, Dante’s older twin brother and one of the main antagonists of the series.

The fresh new voice cast, however, also meant Dan Southworth wouldn’t be his voice actor. Robbie Daymond, who you might recognize as Jujutsu Kaisen’s Megumi Fushiguro, Persona 5’s Akechi Goro, or Hubert von Vestra in the Fire Emblem series, will be voicing the fan-favorite character. However, many feel a bit mixed about the new voice.

10 Anime Villains Who Are Deeply Obsessed With Their Main Character
Image
Anime villains are almost always over the top. But the ones who are obsessed with their protagonists take things to the extreme. These fanatical villains can’t help but let the main characters consume their every thought.

Some anime villains are obsessed because of the anger they feel toward the protagonists. Others simply want to take their powers and will do anything to get them. Anime villains who are obsessed with their protagonists aren’t concerned with optics. They merely want to see the main characters go down as painfully as possible because their hatred (or love) is that strong.

10 Modern Anime Sequels That Actually Lived Up To The Hype
Image
It's always a shame when a good anime comes to an end. The characters have run their course. The story has reached its climax. Everything is wrapped up with a neat little bow. That usually means it's time to move on to the next anime in the series, but that isn't always the case.

Sometimes a good anime is followed by a sequel series that can stand alongside the original series. The characters may be older, or a different cast may be introduced. Either way, the story continues on, keeping its fans focused for another few seasons. Sometimes a series ending doesn't mean the story is truly over.

10 "Unlikeable" Shonen Anime Protagonists Who Don't Deserve the Hate
Image
Shōnen anime often has the most hit-or-miss main characters out of any genre. More often than not, shōnen anime protagonists are more naïve and energetic to represent their desired target audience. However, characters that break away from this mold are often labeled as boring, like Ichigo Kurasaki. Yet, many of these disliked individuals are undeserving of the hate they receive.

Many of shōnen anime's various protagonists are often held to unfair standards because of their popular predecessors. The anime genre's main characters constantly suffer from being consistently compared to one another, like Shinra Kusakabe. He is often described as an amalgamation of other protagonists' personalities. Several of shōnen anime's most iconic protagonists are equally disliked, but this hate is mostly unjustified.

10 Minor Anime Villains That Failed Terribly
Image
Any proper anime villain will pose a credible threat to the heroes with their intelligence, strength, and most of all, their successes. The stakes will always be raised when a villain claims victory, forcing the heroes to try plan B and win against even steeper odds later in the story. That, or a successful villain may succeed in the sense they have gained the lifestyle they want, such as running a nation or destroying the world. But not all villains actually make it that far.

There are some villains who actually haven't made it anywhere, and they all faced defeat before they could realize their ambitions or accomplish anything of note. Some of the least successful villains in anime history failed to win any battles, physical or otherwise, and they never achieved the lifestyle they wanted. James Gunn Touches Upon Clayface's Fate After Creature Commandos
Image
DC Studios co-head James Gunn recently delved into the fate of Clayface in Creature Commandos. This comes after Creature Commandos star Indira Varma touched upon the Bride's Dcu future following the Season 1 finale.

Gunn brought this subject up over on Bluesky, professing to an inquiring fan, "The reports of Clayface's death have been greatly exaggerated. He is quite mushy though." Putting the spotlight on Creature Commandos itself, Warner Bros. Animation executive producer Rick Morales and EVP of special programming Peter Giarardi delved into how Creature Commandos balances its characters in October, with Girardi avowing at the time that there's "a lot of humor in this at the same time, and there's a lot of pathos," because one does get glimpses into who each of these characters are, going on to further note that once one does come around, it's very touching "in the same way The Guardians [of the Galaxy] was."

'Creature Commandos' Just Teased a Pre-dceu Movie
Image
Creature Commandos not only kicked off the Dcu in spectacular fashion with a new cast of great characters, but it also did an exceptional job establishing a lived-in fictional universe. In addition to the great cast of characters that made up the Creature Commandos, it also introduced teases for plenty of other DC characters on the horizon. Batman, Wonder Woman, and Sgt. Rock were just a few names teased in a seven-episode animated series. Yet, one DC character, or characters, that Creature Commandos teased might be fulfilling a planned DC adaptation that has been in development at Warner Bros. for over a decade. It actually predates the Dcu's predecessor, the Dceu's first entry, Man of Steel. The characters in question are the Metal Men.

The Metal Men might not be DC's most famous team of heroes, but like The Guardians of the Galaxy at Marvel, they certainly have big-screen potential.

James Gunn Is Still the King of the Needle Drop with 'Creature Commandos'
Image
In his first foray into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2013's Guardians of the Galaxy, James Gunn proved that a good soundtrack can be as crucial to a movie as any other element. The film's carefully selected array of '60s and '70s pop hits breathed new life into decades-old songs and provided a crucial piece of character for protagonist Peter Quill. He repeated the trick in the 2017 sequel and the 2023 threequel, proving that a good soundtrack isn't just about providing background music, but can speak to the inner lives of the characters and the world of the film.

Now, over a decade since debuting Peter Quill's "Awesome Mix," Gunn has brought that keen skill for needle drops to his new role as creative head of the Dcu. This is on full display in the Dcu's first official project, Max's animated series Creature Commandos, which features a rich playlist...

Now That The DC Universe's First Release Is Officially Out, There's Even More Pressure On James Gunn's Superman Movie, But It Can Still Be A Success
Image
The DC Universe's first official release has only increased the pressure on James Gunn's Superman, but the film still has a lot going for it. James Gunn's Superman movie is set for release in July 2025 and marks the true beginning of the Dcu's overarching story. Superman is the first movie in the Dcu's Chapter One: Gods and Monsters and, as such, is looking to kickstart the franchise into an age of cinematic storytelling that has been absent from DC for a long while.

Superman's cast of characters is expected to establish the foundations of the franchise, but it is the film's writer and director that faces the most pressure. Gunn's Superman must achieve all of these elements to be deemed a success, all while performing well enough commercially to warrant the complete restart of the DC Universe. Now, the pressure on the upcoming DC movie has been...

Creature Commandos' Maria Bakalova Addresses Challenges of Voice Acting, Praises James Gunn's Writing
Image
Despite the debut season of Creature Commandos coming to an end, star Maria Bakalova revealed her anxieties about voice acting in the Max series. She portrayed the morally complex Princess Ilana Rostovic, the acting monarch of Pokolistan who Task Force M is sent to protect.

In an appearance on Collider Ladies Night, Bakalova stated:

"Kudos to all the voice actors out there. It's such a hard job to do. You basically only use your voice. We're privileged, to a degree, to be able to use physical appearance, to be able to walk in a different way, to talk in a different way, look at people in a different way with a camera when we're acting on a set. You use your eyes a lot of times, you use your hands a lot of times, you use your smile a lot of times. With voice acting, you basically only use your...

'Creature Commandos' Brought Back a Long-Forgotten Superhero Tradition
Image
Creature Commandos has been an excellent start for James Gunn's Dcu. Throughout the series, viewers have been given a hint of a fully lived-in DC Universe with a rich history that stretches far beyond the story's events. It draws from real-world history and the rich legacy of DC Comics as a publishing institution, tapping into an important part of the superhero stories that sometimes get overlooked. Creature Commandos Episode 3, "Cheers to the Tin Man," explored the origin of the character G.I. Robot (Sean Gunn), a military android designed to kill Nazis who seemingly struggled following World War II.

The episode showed G.I. Robot's time-serving alongside Sgt. Rock and the boys of Easy Company, possibly setting up Luca Gugagino's Sgt. Rock feature film also shows a superhero fighting in World War II, a significant part of the early dawn of the superhero genre. With Creature Commandos also taking...

'Creature Commandos' Just Casually Dropped a Huge Reveal About the Dcu's Batman
Image
Quick Links Was Doctor Phosphorus the First Foe Batman Faced in the Dcu? It Can't Be Robert Pattinson in the Dcu The Dcu Batman Must Be in His Late 40's or Early 50's

There has been much talk about Batman's role in the Dcu recently. It seems like nobody can give a straight answer on whether Matt Reeves's version of Batman, played by Robert Pattinson, will remain in its own universe or folded into the wider Dcu, or if Andy Muschettit's announced Brave and the Bold Batman-led film is still in the works and if it was delayed or not. Creature Commandos provided two brief teases of Batman, one in a vision of the future where he and other Dcu heroes were killed, and another in a flashback for the villain Doctor Phosphorus.

The season finale of Creature Commandos had one line of dialogue that sheds a huge light...

Creature Commandos just wrapped up its first season on Max, marking the (sort of) first official entry in the new Dcu overseen by James Gunn. So how did Gunn and the team wrap up the season, and where does the ending leave the characters?

A Complete Cast and Character Guide for Sailor Moon
Image
Sailor Moon is the quintessential magical girl anime created by Naoko Takeuchi and published in Kodansha's shojo manga magazine. The series was immediately popular upon its 1992 release, and it still attracts new fans today who enjoy the original anime and manga alongside the current reboot Sailor Moon Crystal. Sailor Moon Crystal is a manga-loyal adaptation that has fewer filler episodes and more streamlined character arcs but the same central characters and plots.

The story of Sailor Moon follows the sweet and precocious protagonist Usagi Tsukino, who transforms into the intergalactic superhero Sailor Moon. Sailor Moon battles cosmic villains and eldritch horrors with the help of her fellow Sailor Senshi and Tuxedo Mask. With a sprawling cast of characters spread out across the franchise, it can get hard to keep track of everyone who is introduced. From the first season to Sailor Stars, here is every important character from the original Sailor Moon anime.
