Inspired by the real supernatural phenomena that writer-director William Mark McCullough and his family endured in their home, A Savannah Haunting is a dread-filled, slow-burn supernatural drama about a mother grappling with her guilt stemming from the tragic drowning of her youngest daughter.

The film was shot on location in the actual haunted house in Savannah, Georgia, that has imposed chilling experiences for years.

Exclusive: Gravitas Ventures has acquired North American right to Genevieve Adams’ dramedy Simchas and Sorrows, along with worldwide rights to Peter Curtis Pardini’s doc The Last Band on Stage, and North American rights to Jaclyn Bethany’s queer thriller, The Falling World. The Anthem Sports & Entertainment Company will release the former title at the Laemmle Noho in Los Angeles on September 16, and on all major digital and VOD platforms on the 20th. Pardini’s film will hit VOD and theaters in three cities on September 30, with Bethany’s indie unspooling on VOD on October 18.

Simchas and Sorrows tells the story of Agnes (Adams), an atheist actress who attempts to convert to Judaism to marry the love of her life, Levi (Thomas McDonnell). Adams directed the pic from her script, with Hari Nef, Luke Forbes, Julie Haltson, Greg Bello, Annelise Cepero, Billy Calder, Lucy Morris, Chip Zien and John Cullum rounding out the cast.

Film News Roundup: ‘Jurassic World’s’ Colin Trevorrow to Direct ‘Atlantis’ Thriller for Universal

In today’s film news roundup, three projects — “The Culling,” “Atlantis” and “A Savannah Haunting” — are unveiled; “Transhood” wins the Audience Award at AFI Docs; the WGA East announces 15 candidates; and the Visual Effects Society honors five members.

Project Launches

Universal Pictures is developing the thriller “Atlantis with “Jurassic World” director Colin Trevorrow and his Metronome Film Co. with Trevorrow directing and producing.

The project is based on a story about the mythical city of Atlantis by Trevorrow and Matt Charman. Dante Harper, who wrote the original spec script that became Tom Cruise’s “Edge of Tomorrow,” will write the script for “Atlantis.”

Metronome and Universal are also collaborating on “Space Opera,” a musical with producer Marc Platt based on Catherynne Valente’s book.

Treverrow’s directing credits include “Safety Not Guaranteed,” “The Book of Henry” and the upcoming “Jurassic World: Dominion.” The news was first reported by Deadline Hollywood.

Los Angeles-based Australian consultant Andrew Hazelton has joined Us writer/director/producer Mark McCullough to work on a TV series based on Mark.s father, William "Freddie" McCullough.

A resident of Bloomingdale, Georgia, .Freddie. died on September 11, aged 61. Mark wrote his dad's obituary which went viral after it was published in the Savannah Morning News, understandably so given its candour and self-deprecating humour.

.Freddie loved deep fried Southern food smothered in Cane Syrup, fishing at Santee Cooper Lake, Little Debbie Cakes, Two and a Half Men, beautiful women, Reeses Cups and Jim Beam. Not necessarily in that order,. the obit read.
