Aaron Eckhart's Upcoming Disaster Movie Could Be The Deep Blue Sea Sequel I've Been Waiting For
Image
Get ready for Aaron Eckhart's upcoming shark movie Deep Water, which could be the Deep Blue Sea sequel audiences have waited for. Director Renny Harlin's return to shark-infested waters will surely bring back the excitement of his past horror hits. Eckhart's action star evolution continues in Deep Water, a film that promises wild deaths and thrilling action.

I can't wait for Aaron Eckhart's upcoming disaster movie, which promises to be the Deep Blue Sea I've waited 25 years to see. I can still vividly recall the visceral shock that rippled through the theater during Samuel L. Jackson's death in Deep Blue Sea in 1999, where his character is snatched by a shark in the middle of a stirring speech. This has since become the most iconic part of the Renny Harlin-directed blockbuster, but there's still plenty to enjoy about this finely crafted B-movie.

Deep Blue Sea arrived at a curious time for visual effects,...

‘Rise’ Canceled By NBC After One Season
NBC has opted not to renew its high school musical drama Rise for a second season. There were high hopes for the series, from former Friday Night Lights showrunner Jason Katims and Hamilton producer Jeffrey Seller, as a potential spiritual companion to This Is Us as another emotional drama.

But Rise did not have the same impact. It got off to a modest start in ratings and never took off.

Written by Katims and starring Josh Radnor, Rise was inspired by the story of groundbreaking high school drama teacher Lou Volpe as chronicled in the book Drama High. In the series, when dedicated teacher and family man Lou Mazzuchelli (Radnor) sheds his own self-doubt and takes over the school’s lackluster theater department, he galvanizes not only the faculty and students but the entire working-class town.

Cast also included Rosie Perez, Auli’i Cravalho, Damon J. Gillespie, Marley Shelton, Rarmian Newton,...

Rise Review: NBC's Stirring Drama Is Heartfelt, But Has Some Growing Pains
From the opening frames of NBC’s new drama Rise — an idyllic panorama of all-American scenery set to lilting guitar — you start to feel that familiar rush: This is Jason Katims country. The Friday Night Lights and Parenthood creator’s distinctive imprint is all over Rise, from the shaky-cam cinematography to the off-the-cuff dialogue, and if you loved Katims’ past shows, you’ll find a lot to love here, too. Whether Rise can ultimately rise to the level of those two stellar achievements, though, is still a question mark.

The premise of Rise — debuting this Tuesday at 10/9c; I’ve...

The Family Season 1 Review
Two episodes were provided prior to broadcast.

It’s hard to argue against the claim that ABC’s new crime drama The Family is little more than a protracted Lifetime original movie. It’s got a set-up that’s somewhere between the gooey melodrama of The Deep End of the Ocean and the shattered family dynamic of The Lovely Bones, and the two hours sent to critics have a generic production value that’s a bit hollow and uninspired in a made-for-tv-movie sort of way.
