Violet McGraw, whose surprise horror hit M3gan became a viral sensation, has signed to headline the cast for A Wonderful Way with Dragons, written, directed, and produced by Delfine Paolini.

The film will begin production this summer in Upstate NY. It marks Paolini’s feature film directorial debut.

‘Dragons’ follows a group of six children and a sinister, possibly imaginary, friend, abandoned on an enigmatic island after a pandemic has swept the world. Their struggle to survive becomes paled by individual desires for each other and for power.

Joining McGraw are Miguel Angel Garcia, star of The Long Game; Taylor Geare from the film Inception; Donnie Masihi of the TV series This Is Us; Ian Foreman, star of the TV series Let the Right One In; and Theodore Dalton, a fashion model turned actor most recently seen in a nationwide Ralph Lauren ad campaign.

A family in crisis deals with tragedy in a truly novel way. Burn Your Maps is a quirky drama filled with adventure and a whole lot of heart. The plot is a bit too fantastical, but the strength of the performances grounds the narrative when needed. Vera Farmiga is sublime as a mother who takes extraordinary measures for her son's happiness. Their journey to spiritual awakening heals frayed bonds and forces a reckoning with grief. Burn Your Maps leaves you optimistic and filled with wanderlust. It's an uplifting diversion from the hectic summer box office.

Burn Your Maps opens with Alise (Vera Farmiga) and Conner (Marton Csokas) Firth in a counseling session. The tragic death of their infant daughter has the family reeling. Alise has been unable to cope with the loss of her child, becoming cold and distant. Conner is worried the gulf between them has become too wide.

“Burn Your Maps” is one of those movies that’s glib and facile and threadbare all the way through, then the ending sort of gets to you (you’d have to be made of pretty stern stuff if it didn’t), so you think back over what you’ve seen — and it’s still a crock. The writer-director, Jordan Roberts, seems drawn like a magnet to overly manipulative feel-good genres. This is another of those dramas about a couple who have lost a young child, and it’s ripping them apart, but watching them go through the motions of a healing that won’t take, the audience feels just about as removed from their pain as they are.

I’m not suggesting that this is an invalid subject for a movie, only that it’s not one you want to see treated with on-the-nose therapeutic shallowness. When we first meet...

Many films deal with the aftermath of a family death by becoming about how their characters live with the pain — it changing them into different people. Some distinctly show them living despite it instead. Rather than depict Connor (Marton Csokas) and Alise (Vera Farmiga) as the death of their baby girl just ten months prior consumes them, Jordan Roberts’ Burn Your Maps portrays their desire to move on after their transformations are complete. They’re searching for a future they hope exists but cannot yet see. They’ve dealt with grief already (at least they’re frustrated enough to believe they have), so now it’s time to embrace the life that remains. While their son Wes (Jacob Tremblay) readies for what this entails, we’re still uncertain if they are too.

But don’t think this story is one steeped in heavy drama from start to finish without room to breathe.

The first preview clip from director Jim Sheridan's (Brothers) new psychological thriller, Dream House, was big on mystery — "Who is Peter Ward?" — but lacked any real thrills or chills. That oversight has been remedied in the latest two preview clips from the movie, which stars Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz as Will and Libby Atenton, a loving couple who, along with their two girls (played by Claire and Taylor Geare), relocated from New York City to a small town in New England only to find that their "dream house" was once the sight of a gruesome murder and that they are now the killer's next victims. If you startle easily, you may not want to watch these clips at work, in a library, or in a quiet coffee shop.

Three of my most anticipated movies have been released already - Brothers, The Lovely Bones and A Single Man. Two of them, A Single Man and Brothers, seem to be getting the kind of attention and raves they deserved while The Lovely Bones is now considered as one of the most divisive in regards to critics' assessment of the said Peter Jackson film. Jim Sheridan's movies have always been about the costs of assimilation, from his stunning debut with My Left Foot to the immigration story In America. His latest film, Brothers, is the kind of meaty melodrama that's ideal for his kind of story. It's a tightly focused character study about the toils of war and the emotional scars that come with physical ones, and though it's not a great film in the sense of one that will become a classic for the ages, that has more to do with the fact that it strives to be a smaller human drama instead of trying to be the defining war film of its time. An inordinate and unfair amount of pressure is put on films about the current wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to somehow be epic, all-encompassing, and representative of our era in a way we didn't think possible. But Brothers...

Sibling rivalry is a common theme in films, but Brothers takes that universal subject and places it in a new context. There's more at play — and at stake — in Jim Sheridan's awards hopeful than just family interaction. Grief, guilt, and identity lie at the torn heart of this sometimes disturbing but always moving film.

Top movie critics give 'Brothers' movie pretty good reviews. Lionsgate's new intense, drama film, "Brothers" hit theaters today,and most of the top movie critics found it to be at least, pretty good. It got mostly As,one B,and a couple of Cs. The movie stars: Tobey Maguire, Jake Gyllenhaal, Natalie Portman, Bailee Madison, Taylor Geare, Patrick Flueger, Sam Shepard, Mare Winningham, Clifton Collins Jr., and Josh Berry. Sometimes, in very rare instances, basic arithmetic does not apply. Sometimes 1 + 1 + 1 does not, in fact, = 3. Take Brothers, for instance, a drama that does everything it can to prop its success up on the efforts made by its parts. Nearly everyone involved, particularly those in front of the camera, are doing their part. It’s the summation, the glaze over everything that doesn’t seem to be gelling the way it should. It’s film about family. It’s a film called Brothers. However, there is very little in the way of connection between many of the characters. In the end, the entire film suffers for it.

I’m not sure why Brothers is so shallow. The plot of a man leaving to fight in a war, presumed dead, his wife developing an emotional connection to his brother, and then the resulting conflict which occurs when the man comes home alive. The story feels almost biblical but Brothers prefers obvious emotional markers rather than create real conflict between the characters. In the end, what should be a thematically rich and tense film becomes the story of a man who sacrificed his humanity in order to return to the human relationships that he now finds meaningless. Thankfully, that man is played by Tobey Maguire who manages to build a full character while everyone else is left to function as plot devices.
