Meegwun was born in Toronto, Ontario Canada to elementary school teacher Anne Fairbrother and visual artist/musician Alexander John Lands (Jr). He is mixed blood Ojibwe and Scottish, with family from Grassy Narrows, Shoal Lake, and Eagle Lake First Nation in Treaty Three Territory. Meegwun grew up hunting, fishing and taking part in Ojibwe ceremonies with his grandfather and knowledge keeper, Albert Lands. Powwows, ceremony and art have always been a part of his life, along with his other true love: Movies.
He completed high school in Kenora, Ontario before being accepted into the acting conservatory at York University and was one of the first indigenous students to graduate from the program. He has since worked on stage, film and television all over North America with the very Indigenous stars he watched on television, such as Micheal Greyeyes, August Schellenburg and Tom Jackson. His first big break was on APTN's "Mohawk Girls" as Butterhead and then as Daniel Aerov in Syfy's virus show "Helix." After that he landed a series lead role in "Burden of Truth" and supporting role in "The Sticky."
His most recent credits include a turn as Avatar Kuruk in Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender, guest star roles in Alaska Daily and Murdoch Mysterious as well as his first lead in a feature film called Lucky Strikes (Crave).
