Cambodia’s Westec Media moves into sales with six-strong slate (exclusive)

Cambodian buyer Westec Media is making its market debut at Hong Kong Filmart as it ventures into international sales with a line-up of six titles from Cambodia, Malaysia, Taiwan and Japan.

Its debut slate includes Malaysian director James Lee’s Next Stop, Somewhere, a drama about freedom and self-discovery, starring Hong Kong actor Anthony Wong; Igor Hsu’s Corpse Bazaar, a Taiwanese body horror film about revenge and redemption; and Joey Lee’s My Parents’ Midlife Crisis, a Malaysian family drama about love and healing.

‘Kiss of the Con Queen’ Secures Asia Distribution as Production Expands

Filming has begun on Tom Waller’s true-crime thriller, “Kiss of the Con Queen,” with real-life victim Eoin O’Brien (“The Last Full Measure”) taking the lead role. He plays actor duped by an impersonator to travel to Indonesia on the promise of auditions for a leading role in a DC origins series, only to discover that he had been scammed by the infamous Con Queen of Hollywood.

In the real world, the alleged perpetrator, 41-year-old Indonesian food blogger Hargobind Tahilramani, is accused of pretending to be both male and female Hollywood executives and having swindled hundreds of victims of millions of dollars. He was arrested in 2020 after an FBI manhunt and is currently in prison in the U.K. where he is fighting against possible extradition to the U.S. The U.K. court hearings have been dramatic and disturbing.

Jean-Paul Ly, is an actor and 2017 Award Nominee Action designer/performer, of Chinese and Cambodian origins currently based in London. Trained at the Identity Drama School of London (UK Double Award Winning Part-Time Drama School), Jean-Paul won the “Clive Dailey Award for Best Actor 2014” , for the performance play of “Constellations” (Nick Payne).

With more than 25 years of martial arts practice, Jean-Paul started his work in the film industry in the action / stunt dept, for which he has been nominated twice in 2017:

– The prestigious American SAG Awards, regarding his work on critically acclaimed “Doctor Strange” (Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble).
