If I Have to Describe Myself in a Colour, It Would Be White’: Anindita Sinha on Holi Celebrations
Image
Anindita Sinha, who plays Sumitra Mishra in Rahul Kumar Tewary and Rolling Tales Production’s Ram Bhavan on Colors TV, recently shared her thoughts on Holi, her love for the festival, and her cherished memories.

“If I have to describe myself in a colour, then it would be white because it can take any colour, and as an actor, I have to take different shades of life for my performance,” she expressed, highlighting the dynamic nature of her craft and the festival’s significance in her personal life.

For Anindita, Holi is more than just colours; it is about creating memories with family. “Every year, I create memories on Holi because I play Holi with my family, which consists of some 20 to 30 people. But I still remember my first Holi after marriage in Mumbai—we played Holi at my place and then went to Thane, with eight people squeezed into a Maruti Alto,...

Image
Srushti Mishra, who plays the role of Ragini in Rahul Kumar Tewary and Rolling Tales Production’s Ram Bhavan on Colors TV, shares her love for Holi and what makes the festival so special for her.

Srushti finds many similarities between herself and her on-screen character, Ragini. “Ragini is a typical character, and there isn’t much difference between me and her. We are both from Uttar Pradesh, obedient, and calm. I feel that if Ragini were real, she would love dry Holi and enjoy Malpua and Kheer, especially the one made by her mother.”

For Srushti, the charm of Bollywood-style Holi is irresistible. “Wearing white clothes, pink and yellow gulaal flying in the air—it’s a magical sight. My mom scolds me for wearing white on Holi, and so far, I have only managed to wear it twice. But I love it; it gives a Bollywood feel!”

Indians to miss World Athletics Challenge-Race Walking event
Image
La Coruna (Spain), June 4 (Ians) In the absence of the top Asian athletes – the Indians will also miss it -- the main focus in the Spanish leg of this year's World Athletics Challenge-Race Walking competition here on Saturday will be on the top Europeans athletes.

"We aren't going to Spain to compete as the Indian athletes aren't getting visas to travel to Europe due to the second wave of Covid-19 in India," one of the athletes told Ians.

India has booked five Tokyo Olympic Games quota places in the 20km race walking event, including two in the women's section.

Olympian KT Irfan, Sandeep Kumar and Rahul Kumar have qualified for the Olympics in the men's 20km event while Bhawana Jat and Priyanka Goswami are the qualified women.

"The top athletes competed in the National Race Walking Championship, held in February. Thereafter, there wasn't any exposure due to the pandemic," said...

Long distance runner Vishwakarma's A sample tests positive
Image
By Navneet Singh

New Delhi, March 16 (Ians) Uttar Pradesh's long distance runner Sunil Vishwakarma's bid of making it to this year's Tokyo Olympic Games seems to be crumbling after he tested positive for banned substance, said a national level coach.

The 'A' sample of the 23-year-old athlete has tested positive for Erythropoietin (Epo), a performance enhancing drug banned by the World Anti Doping Agency (Wada).

A Nada team had collected 10 urine samples during the eighth National Race Walking Championship held last month in Ranchi. Of these, one athlete has failed the dope test.

This is Vishwakarma's first offence. His 'B' sample, however, is yet to be tested.

Athletes could face a four-year ban for the first doping offence if proven guilty during Nada's anti-doping disciplinary panel hearing.

Each sample taken is kept in two separate bottles - 'A' and 'B'. If the A sample turns positive, athletes have the...

2 Indian athletes test positive for doping: Nada chief
Image
New Delhi, March 13 (Ians) Two leading athletes -- one of them an Asian Games medallist - have failed dope tests for performance enhancing drugs, said Navin Aggarwal, director general of the National Anti Doping Agency (Nada), here on Saturday.

Aggarwal didn't reveal the names of the athletes whose B sample is yet to be tested, but said Nada had collected the urine and blood samples during the three Indian Grand Prix events in Patiala recently and the National Race Walking Championships in Ranchi.

Each sample taken is kept in two separate bottles -- A and B. And if the A sample turns positive then athletes have the right to have their B samples tested.

The athletes, if proved guilty during Nada's anti-doping disciplinary panel hearing, could face a four-year ban for the first doping offence.

Since the World Anti Doping Agency (Wada) has suspended New Delhi's National Anti Doping Laboratory...

Nada collects 148 samples in February
Image
New Delhi, March 12 (Ians) The National Anti-Doping Agency (Nada) collected 148 samples - including 15 of blood - to detect the use of banned substance by athletes during national competitions held in February, says Nada's newsletter for the month of March.

The anti-doping watchdog in the country also collected out-of-competition samples in disciplines like boxing and wrestling across the country.

As many as 40 samples were collected in track and field, the most in a discipline. In February, the anti-doping agency had tested six athletes during the 36th National Junior Athletics Championship in Guwahati, Assam.

According to the Nada newsletter, six athletes were also subject to out-of-competition test during the Assam athletics meet.

The participants of first and second leg of the Indian Grand Prix meets held in Patiala were also subject to dope test. In the first leg of Igp, Nada had tested 10 athletes while the number was increased to 13 in the second leg.

Race Walking National: Rawat (35km), Gurpreet (50km) win gold (Lead)
Image
By Navneet Singh

New Delhi, Feb 14 (Ians) It was stroll in the park for Uttarakhand's international race walker Manish Singh Rawat as he comfortably won gold medal in the newly introduced 35km event in the eighth National Race Walking Championships in Ranchi on Sunday.

Rawat's gold medal winning effort of two hours 49 minutes and 12 seconds, however, fell short of the 2022 Oregon World Athletics Championships qualifying time of two hours 33 minutes.

Gurpreet Singh won the title in the gruelling 50km race with a time of three hours 59 minutes and 42 seconds. He too couldn't achieve the Tokyo Olympic qualification time of three hours and 50 minutes.

The women's 35km was cancelled as there were no entries.

As compared to Sunday's race, Saturday was quite productive for the Indian athletes as three race walkers -- Sandeep Kumar, Rahul Kumar and Priyanka Goswami -- qualified for Tokyo Olympics and were also successful in earning berths for the 2022 World Athletics Championships.

Migrant labourer's son from Bihar village wins gold medal at Iit, Roorkee
Rahul Kumar
Patna, Dec 4 (Ians) Rahul Kumar, 22, the son of a migrant worker from Sosandi, a nondescript village in Bihar's Nalanda district, has graduated from Indian Institute of Technology (Iit), Roorkee, one of the premier educational institutes in the country.

Kumar's 52-year-old father Sunil Singh works on a power loom in Surat on a daily wage basis. He was compelled to shift to Gujarat since the small piece of land that the family owns in Bihar wasn't sufficient for him and his four siblings to earn a living.

During the annual convocation of the institute held via digital mode, Rahul, who completed his B. Tech in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, was awarded the President's Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal for his social initiatives.

Apart from being academically brilliant, Rahul has always been inclined towards the welfare of society and his zeal led him to become the General Secretary of National Service Scheme (Nss), Iit Roorkee.

Bandish Bandits Series Review
Image
The musical drama series, Bandish Bandits, began streaming August 4th on Amazon Prime. Directed by Anand Tiwari, the 10 episode Amazon Original Series, set in Jodhpur, tells the tale of two young musicians, hailing from contrasting backgrounds. Bandish Bandits follows the story of Radhe, a singing prodigy determined to follow in the classical footsteps of his grandfather, and Tamanna, a rising pop sensation desperate to become India’s first international pop-star.

When I first read the synopsis of Bandish Bandits, I was very intrigued and knew I wanted to see this series. It was even better than I imagined! I am, of course, a huge Bollywood fan and for me, Bandish Bandits is such a Bollywood-esque story. The series features 30 to 50-minute episodes, which clocks in at about 7-ish hours – I was all in for it and in fact, I would have watched even more.

The director crafted the series so well.

Reflections 2014: 7 Breakout Performances of the Year
2014 has truly been a year of surprises. The audiences surprised the film makers by accepting movies that perhaps 5 years ago they wouldn’t have, film makers surprised the audiences by challenging the norms of Indian cinema and taking risks with their story telling and above all, actors surprised everyone by delivering performances that we wouldn’t have pegged them to deliver. Bollyspice now brings you a list of Stand Out Performances of 2014. Not all of these performances were lead performances in their individual films but they were performances that stood out of the entire film for us.

Alia Bhatt – Highway

In a recent interview Alia Bhatt confessed that after Student of the Year she was rather disappointed because no one was simply talking about her! Comments were restricted to ‘fresh’ and ‘pleasant’ and never remotely even referring to her actual performance. So she decided in 2014 she would ensure we talk about her and only her.

According to the findings, 69 percent marriages are still arranged in comparison to only 31 percent love marriages.
