When Dylan Ratigan left MSNBC last year, he likely didn't know what he would be doing next. But less than a year later, he has left the news business altogether to work on a hydroponic organic farm. The Daily Show's Al Madrigal caught up with Ratigan to see just how different his new lifestyle is from the world of cable news.

While visiting 30 Rock this week, I had the chance to sit down with the hosts of The Cycle, the commentary fondue pot that replaced Martin Bashir at 3 pm when Bashir moved into Dylan Ratigan‘s vacated time slot. While discussing the state of post-truth politics, co-host Krystal Ball offered that often, the voters get it right with instinctive criteria like the "beer test," and when I tried to refute that using the words "George W. Bush," Touré explained that relating to the common man was part of Bush's political genius.

Author, cultural critic, TV personality and MSNBC pundit Toure (nee Toure Neblett) has been named as one of the co-hosts for a new MSNBC show The Circle, which premieres next Monday. On the show, Toure will share co-hosting durtes with Salon.com political senior writer Steve Kornacki, and former Democratic congressional candidate and strategist Krystal Ball, who are also regular MSNBC contributors. The show will air at 3Pm (2Pm Central) taking the place of the Martin Bashir Show, whose show moves back one hour to 4Pm (3Pm Central), taking the place of the Dylan Ratigan's Show, after the host left the network earlier this week.

MSNBC has solidified the network’s replacement for the departing Dylan Ratigan show. The Cycle, which debuts Monday, features a permanent cast of four: Conservative commentator S.E. Cupp, author and pundit Touré, Salon writer Steve Kornacki and former congressional candidate Krystal Ball. All four will appear every day, taking turns facilitating discussion. MSNBC revealed specifics on the show to the Huffington Post. Exec producer Steve Friedman and the four co-hosts jokingly begged to differ with suggestions that The Cycle format seems derivative of Fox News Channel’s The Five. “The concept of an ensemble show is extraordinarily old,” said Touré. After the New York Times broke the news of his departure yesterday evening, MSNBC host Dylan Ratigan posted an explanation of his leaving and what the future brings for him after the show. In a letter to fans on his website, Ratigan explains that he is off to "experiment" in the market to "seize new tools and take cultural risks to resolve our challenges."...

After three years on the job, MSNBC host Dylan Ratigan is leaving his TV spot.

The New York Times reported on Sunday that Ratigan will depart from his cable news role, with the final edition of "The Dylan Ratigan Show" airing on Friday, June 22.

“Think of it like ending a Broadway play,” Ratigan told the Times, adding that he is looking to put his words from television into action.

The New York Times report adds that current 3 p.m. host Martin Bashir will be taking over the 4 p.m. hour. Bashir's program has been a part of MSNBC's afternoon lineup since its Feb. 28, 2011 premiere.

Ratigan joined MSNBC in June 2009, arriving from his post as host of CNBC's "Fast Money." He started off with the 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. weekday slot.

Following a bit of a dust-up during yesterday's post-potus press conference coverage on MSNBC, The Ed Show host Ed Schultz appeared on Dylan Ratigan's The Dylan Ratigan Show to clear the air. Ratigan began by apologizing to MSNBC's audience (for an awesome bit of television?) for distracting from an important debate, and to Schultz for interrupting him. "Both of us are not only passionate about America and jobs, but we are friends and colleagues," Ratigan told his audience.

During some post-game analysis of President Obama's press conference this afternoon, MSNBC's Ed Schultz laid down the law with colleague Dylan Ratigan for interrupting him. Ex-msnbc anchor David Shuster took to Twitter to slam an MSNBC interview by Dylan Ratigan with Andrew Breitbart, calling it a "love-in," and then assuring followers his own interview with Breitbart would address "questions Dylan avoided" in his "awful" interview. Yesterday Dylan Ratigan may have surprised his audience when he announced that his political leanings were conservative, and not progressive or liberal like many on the right consider anything related to MSNBC to be. While wrapping up a panel discussion on Obama's relationship with John Boehner and today's Gop primary in Delaware with Jonathan Capehart, Alicia Menendez and Matt Lewis let loose his political stance which is certain to color how his future commentary is viewed.

Earlier this week, the truly strange story that the DEA was actively looking to hire nine "Ebonics translators" hit the headlines. Dylan Ratigan brought on the Washington Post's Jonathan Capehart to discuss the serious implications of this like whether or not Ebonics is an actual language. I've decided to roll right on with the teenager/high school theme because it gives me something to write about and it's a universal experience so it's probably more entertaining for you to read than, say, a rant about tuna fish cans and how no matter how careful you are you always get a little bit of the water on your shirt and it's infuriating. Also, there's almost always at least one TV show on that's set in high school so it's totally relevant. Anyway, if you could go back in time and spend exactly one minute with your teenage self the day you started high school (or whatever it's equivalent was for you) what would you say? Would you warn them away from certain people, fashion choices, perms, etc. or try to impart a deeper life lesson? Is there anything you'd like to change about your high school experience...

Former Governor Howard Dean drew a characteristic rebuke from Fox News' Michael Clemente when he accused the network of "absolutely racist" coverage of the Shirley Sherrod story. Clemente called Dean a "failed candidate" who "blame(s) Fox for almost anything." Speaking to Dylan Ratigan fill-in and Young Turks host Cenk Uygur, Dean stood by his comments, and dismissed Clemente's criticism, while Cenk noted the long roster of "failed candidates" who populate Fox's air. Hamsterdam, MD - News at 4:20. As part of the celebration for the upcoming season of Weeds, Glick University polled over 4,000 Americans about what TV News personalities they wanted to see get high during a broadcast.

Naturally there were ground rules including the disqualifications of news organizations that contain notorious on air potheads. This meant no votes were collected for the cast of The Daily Show, Colbert Report and Fox and Friends. You think Steve Doocey is sober? Hard to think that any of those folks have eyes that aren’t pied 24-7.

10, Bill O’Reilly (Fox News) had a lot of folks who reacted that it’d be like, “Dude, I’m getting high with dad.” Of course this initial elation is cut down with the horrifying fact of “Dude, I’m getting high with dad and it’s just not someone I need to party with.”

It's been barely 24 hours since Larry King announced the end of his 25 year old CNN show on Twitter (Larry King tweets?!), then on his show. 'Larry King Live' will end in September, and perhaps not a moment too soon.

So let the guessing begin: who will assume Larry's suspenders? Piers Morgan? Ryan Seacrest? We humbly ask CNN not to rush into anything and consider our choices for their coveted prime time slot.

John Edwards. With CNN's recent hire of Eliot Spitzer, disgrace is hot! Spitzer was actually quite good backing up Dylan Ratigan on MSNBC, and Edwards is even smoother (perhaps too smooth). Years of campaigning -- not to mention his background as a trial lawyer - would seem to make asking the tough questions and offering analysis just about second nature to the former Vice Presidential candidate. And hey, where is Edwards anyway?

There was high drama at CNBC yesterday as "Fast Money" anchor Dylan Ratigan quit -- sources say today will be his last day on-air -- and an insider is blaming his battles with network big Susan Krakower.

Krakower -- the VP for strategic programming and development who co-created "Fast Money" with Ratigan -- "is partially responsible for this. She's been ignoring him for months and he couldn't get the attention he deserved," the insider said.
