‘Pickaxe’ DVD Review
Stars: Tiffany Shepis, A. Michael Baldwin, Sal Governale, Shawn Hernandez, Jayson Champion, Perry Batson, Ashley-Marie Zgabay, Elizabeth Redpath, Ben Warner, Will Morgan, Gage Tijerina, Danielle Jones, Cory W. Ahre, Keefer Barlow, Lyndsey Case | Written and Directed by Jeremy Sumrall

Jeremy Sumrall writes and directs this slasher flick that will see release through Wild Eye Releasing. Set in the 1980’s, a trend in horror (and other genres) that I enjoy, regardless of how overdone it’s perhaps becoming, this is a ritualistic serial-killery (is that a word?) and sexually frantic film about a resurrected murderer named Alex Black.

There is, indeed, a lot of sex here. I mean, it’s part and parcel of the slasher sub-genre, right? Teenagers doing the horizontal mambo while a maniac is on the loose? It happens a lot here, perhaps to the point of annoyance, and perhaps even to the point where most slasher fans might even say…...

This film debuted on most Digital platforms this past week. This title stars: A. Michael Baldwin (Phantasm), horror legend Tiffany Shepis (Strange Nature) and Kerry Beyer (Spirit Camp). An homage to '80s horror, the film's trailer debuted recently and shows a masked figure, focused on a small town. To bring the terror, a preview of Pickaxe is available here. The killings began in 1982. Long since dead, Alex Black (Perry Batson) is brought back-from-the-dead through a black magic ritual. Violent retro-slasher Sweatshop hitting DVD
Sweatshop, director Stacy Davidson's ode to old violent school slashers, is finally coming to DVD in an unrated North American edition on September 13th, courtesy Screen Media Films.

Synopsis:

In Sweatshop, Charlie and her friends break into an abandoned warehouse to set up the biggest rave they've ever thrown. Little do they know, an enormous, hulking beast lurks in the shadows - filled with rage and brandishing a pulverizing foundry hammer. It isn't long before the kids are in a fight for their lives against this behemoth and his ghoulish minions, who will stop at nothing to snuff them out, one-by-one.

Packed with the latest industrial music by Android Lust and Lucid Dementia, featuring a sexy cast of up-and-coming talent (including Psychic Experiment's Peyton Wetzel and The Final's Julin), Sweatshop is more than just an homage to the slasher films of the 70s and 80s that inspired it.

New trailer, stills from Possum Walk
Writer/director Jeremy Sumrall and producer/cinematographer Robert Luke gave Fango the first on-line look at a new trailer for their shocker Possum Walk, along with a few exclusive images from the movie; check ’em out below. “The trailer debuted prior to a screening of Josh Vargas’ Sway at Crypticon Houston this past weekend,” Luke tells us, “and received an incredible response from the crowd.”

Possum Walk, which we last reported on here, is set in the titular small Southern town where the residents live under extreme religious oppression. A virginal local girl mysteriously becomes pregnant and begins suffering horrible visions, all while a vicious serial killer begins targeting her friends. Maggie Conwell, Parrish Randall, Andrew Sensenig, Tim Taylor, Tyler Tackett, Keli Wolfe, Danielle Jones, Chris Warren, Jessica Jecker, Kristen Hall, Jennifer Peebles and Victoria Lane star, with Kristi Boul and Matthew Ash on the makeup FX.

Grisly exclusive new pics, update on Possum Walk
Writer/director Jeremy Sumrall got in touch with an update and photos (including some exclusive gore shots) from Possum Walk, the rural chiller that, he says, is “about 98 percent complete.” Check out the images from the Texas-lensed Horrorphile Entertainment/Bloodbrick Pictures production below.

“We have one or two dialogue scenes left to film, and then a couple of FX pickup shots,” Sumrall reports. “Little stuff we weren’t able to pull off quite the way we wanted, naturally.” Nonetheless, “The production has gone much smoother than I could have anticipated. I have an amazing cast and hard-working crew supporting me in this endeavor. I’m eternally grateful to each and every one of them for helping to bring my creation to life.”

Sumrall goes on to describe Possum Walk, which stars Maggie Conwell, Lone Star State horror regular Parrish Randall, Keli Wolfe (fifth photo with Conwell), Jessica Jecker and Danielle Jones...

Exclusive New Stills: Possum Walk
Anyone who's well acquainted with me knows that I have no love for possums so it is with great trepidation that I report on a film called Possum Walk. Still, I've suffered for my craft and for your enjoyment before so here goes.

For those uninitiated few who don’t already know, Possum Walk is “…a dark, dramatic film about small-town Southern living, which is controlled by fear, ignorance, and - perhaps worst of all – religion. A young virgin named ‘Faith Carpenter’ – played beautifully by newcomer Maggie Conwell – discovers she’s pregnant, and begins having terrible visions of demonic goings-on as a result. Her widower father, ‘Brother William Carpenter’ – played with gusto by indie genre fave Parrish Randall (Vicious, Quick And The Undead) – struggles with a few demons of his own. And, as things are boiling over between these two, a masked killer picks the sleepy little town to become...

Death stalks the Possum Walk; first pics
Texas-based writer/director Jeremy Sumrall got in touch with the scoop on Possum Walk, “a twisted little religious horror movie” he has written and will be directing for Horrorphile Entertainment and his own Bloodbrick Pictures. “We’ve currently shot one full scene, and a smidgen of random violence and sex for the purpose of a teaser trailer,” he tells Fango; you can see a few images from them below.

Sumrall, who plays the hulking killer The Beast in Stacy Davidson’s upcoming Sweatshop, also passed on the following synopsis: “In small towns like Possum Walk, secrets can be hard to keep. For Faith Carpenter, her secret could be downright deadly: She’s pregnant…and a virgin. Her father—a local preacher with dark, violent secrets of his own—tightens his grip on her, driving a wedge between them. But both of them will have to put aside their differences to...

Sweatshop comic coming; first image appears
Over at the MySpace blog for the independent “smasher film” Sweatshop, the moviemakers have announced that a prequel in comics form will be released to tie in with the feature. It’s titled Sweatshop: Hide And Shriek, and you can see the first image below the cut.

Written by Sweatshop scripters Stacy Davidson (who also directed the movie) and Ted Geoghegan, Hide And Shriek explores what happens to hot young couple Brandi (played in the movie by ViVi Sterling) and Ghost (Fernando Phagabeefy) when they enter the titular dwelling of the Beast (Jeremy Sumrall). Thomas Mason, whose credits include Freddy Vs. Jason Vs. Ash and Wolverine, created the art. Hide And Shriek will initially be released to the press and then on the convention/film festival circuit, and will be included as an insert when the movie hits DVD and Blu-ray.

In Sweatshop, a bunch of Brandi and Ghost...
