Kalki Koechlin
Known for her unique choice of films, Kalki Koechlin is often appreciated for maintaining the right balance between commercial and parallel cinema. Kalki is now all set to star opposite the award winning veteran Naseeruddin Shah in the upcoming film Waiting. Waiting is based on the story of two individuals who are waiting in the hospital watching their relatives suffer in coma. Though the subject is serious as the two struggle to find an aim in life, it is being said, that the story will be treated with humour. Subhash K Jha Selects His 10 Favourite Films Of 2012
That 2012 began with an overwrought hyper-melodramatic brutal and tumultuous remake of Agneepath and ended with Yash Chopra’s muted mellow all-heart-no-malice ode to romance Jab Tak Hai Jaan seems indicative of the direction that Bollywood seems headed for. The journey, as we can see, is unpredictable and largely exciting. Looking back, some films of 2012 that fetched hype-star ratings seem bloated and over-eager to please either critics or the masses, but never both. Luckily the films that were truly meritorious did get a place under the swoon.

Each year Bollywood surprises us, and not always in a good way. 2012 seems like a watershed year even by the continuously evolving standards of filmmaking set by envelope-pushing directors who have filtered into filmdom during the past years. 2012 was the year when Tigmanshu Dhulia, Sujoy Ghosh and Shoojit Sircar came into their own with films that took mainstream cinema to new heights. It was...

London Paris New York Movie Review
Can you fall in love with the same person over and over again? Does meeting them at different stages of your and their life mean you meet a new person each time? Anu Menon perhaps did not think I’d walk out the cinema with such questions after watching her debut film but essentially that is what London Paris New York is all about.

Menon divides the romance of her characters in three phases, each phase reflecting the mood of the city in which the characters are. Nikhil and Lalita’s love story proves that spending days and nights together isn’t what love stories are all about. The same amount of love, intensity and passion can be ignited by three simple encounters. The climax these three encounters leads to is what sets the flow for London Paris New York.

The debutant director tries rather hard to ensure her love...

The daily routine of an Austrian paedophile who keeps a young boy locked in his cellar was hardly something anyone was queuing up to see, but this challenges us, and itself, to take a look. At the same time, it thankfully averts its gaze from scenes of actual abuse. There are keen observations on parenting, privacy, power relations and more, but the flat, factual approach verges on dull, and the absence of empathy ultimately just leaves you feeling grubby. So get in line for the grimmest movie of the year!

Two suspiciously close CIA buddies fall out when they discover they're dating the same woman – cue the misuse of government equipment and their own combat skills for one-upmanship. The romcom high concept is novel for a good reason: it's completely ridiculous.

“London Paris New York has a very youthful, energetic freshness but it is also a little heavy” – Aditi Rao Hydari
Aditi Rao Hydari certainly caught everyone’s eye with her debut performance in the Tamil film Sringaram, which went on to win several National awards. She, of course continued acting and worked both in the South and Hindi film industries. It was her lead role in Yeh Saali Zindagi that led her to her starring role in London Paris New York. But more on that tale in a bit… In Lpny, Aditi takes on the interesting character of Lalitha and her journey of finding who she is and finding love. In the rom-com with a bit more, Lalitha and Ali Zafar’s Nikhil, over a period of eight years meet and romance for one day in London, Paris and New York. “After watching London Paris New York, you will walk out with a smile on your face and a lighter heart” – Ali Zafar
Ali Zafar, if you know his name then you know his music. The pop singer is a huge star with many great songs and hits to his name. You also may know him as the actor and have seen him in his break out role in the funny Tere Bin Laden and continuing on with his success as an actor who got great reviews in the romantic Mere Brother Ki Dulhan. For London Paris New York, Ali combined his skills in both music and acting and not only stars in the film as the romantic lead, he also composed the soundtrack. In an interesting twist, he also sang the male vocals on the tracks and even had co-star Aditi Rao Hydari join in on two songs. Directed by Anu Menon, London Paris New York follows Nikhil and Lalitha, two twenty somethings as they meet in London, Paris and New York...

Ali Zafar is currently promoting his new film London Paris New York, and gave an interview, talking about shooting in the three cities, composing the music for the film, and romancing his co-star Aditi Rao Hydari.

How did Lpny come about and what attracted you to the story?

My manager and I met with the director Anu Menon and executives from Rose Movies to discuss the project. I loved the script and the story and so was sold on doing the film. The fact that it’s set in three parts, filmed in three wonderful cities and covers three chapters in the lead characters’ lives, makes it a unique and special film.

What is special about your new film: London Paris New York?

There are a lot of unique things about the film; it is a Hatke love story with a lot of romance and great music. Our experience from the film,...

Ali Zafar rides a Mumbai train!
It is usually in reel life when we see the hero or heroine running to catch the train but for Ali Zafar and co-star Aditi Rao Hydari this happened in real life.

The two stars, who will soon be seen in the love story London Paris New York, were at the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival promoting the film and as always, things were running a little bit late. They both were committed to go to another function, but it was rush hour in Mumbai. So instead of trying to get across the city in a car they both ran to catch a train from Churchgate station!

People who were on the train that day had no idea that they had stars riding along with them, since both Aditi and Ali disguised themselves for the ride! Aditi who was in the woman’s compartment rode with a shawl, while Ali wore a scarf and hat.
