Last year, Netflix’s true-crime limited series “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” received 13 Emmy nominations and scored a major win for supporting actress Niecy Nash-Betts. That came after the victories for lead actor Evan Peters at the Golden Globes and Nash-Betts at the Critics Choice Awards. Flash-forward to 2024, and the second installment of the franchise, “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story,” now hopes to follow in the award-winning footsteps of its predecessor.

Charlie Hunnam will star in “Monster” Season 3 at Netflix as notorious serial killer Ed Gein.
Series co-creator Ryan Murphy made the announcement onstage during a promotional event in Los Angeles for “Monster” Season 2, which focuses on the Menendez brothers and the murder of their parents. The first season of the anthology series focused on serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer.
Gein, who also hailed from Wisconsin like Dahmer, became infamous in the 1950s when authorities discovered that he not only had killed multiple people, but had dug up graves from a cemetery near his home and fashioned all manner of household items and clothing from human remains. Gein’s case served as an inspiration for several major pop culture characters later on, including Norman Bates in “Psycho” and Buffalo Bill in “Silence of the Lambs.”

José and Kitty Menendez make their Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story debut in the final trailer for the Netflix anthology series, unmasking the now-deceased parents of the real-life brothers Lyle and Erik Menendez.
Following a teaser trailer that hinted at cracks in the family, and the first official trailer focusing on the Menendez brothers after their parents were killed, the new nearly three-minute look at Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s latest Monsters installment brings José and Mary Louise “Kitty” Menendez into a dark spotlight. The 10-episode season releases Sept. 19 on Netflix.
The trailer opens with a tension-building conversation between Barden’s José and son Lyle, portrayed by Nicholas Chavez, where José compares his son to a disobeying dog. “I think that I didn’t hit you hard enough,” says José, before slapping his son across the face. “So as a father, that is my fault. And I’m sorry.

Following the massive success of Dahmer, Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s true-crime anthology series returns on Netflix with Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.
The new series chronicles the case of the real-life brothers who were convicted in 1996 for the murders of their parents, José and Mary Louise “Kitty” Menendez.
While the prosecution argued they were seeking to inherit their family fortune, the brothers claimed – and remain adamant to this day, as they serve life sentences without the possibility of parole – that their actions stemmed out of fear from a lifetime of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse at the hands of their parents.

Ryan Murphy is putting Chloë Sevigny and Javier Bardem in the forefront for his latest true-crime anthology installment “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.”
Murphy may no longer be under his Netflix overall deal — he’s at Disney now — but the Menendez “Monsters” will be on Netflix as the anthology series pre-dates the move. The Jeffrey Dahmer “Monster” is Netflix’s third-most-watched season of (English-language) television in its recorded history.
This second installment captures the murders of couple Mary Louise “Kitty” (Sevigny) and José Menendez (Bardem), who were killed by their sons Lyle (Nicholas Alexander Chavez) and Erik (Cooper Koch). The boys were convicted in 1996 after arguing that they killed their parents over abuse.
The official synopsis for the series reads: “While the prosecution argued they were seeking to inherit their family fortune, the brothers claimed — and remain adamant to this day, as they serve life sentences without the...

The next chapter of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s Monster anthology series has gained some significant star power as Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny join the cast as the parents of the Menéndez Brothers, José and Mary Louise “Kitty” Menéndez. The true crime mini-series Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story is one of the biggest hits the Netflix streaming service has ever had, so a lot of subscribers have spent a good amount of time watching Evan Peters inhabit the role of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer. Peters sat in on a panel with co-stars Niecy Nash and Richard Jenkins and Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story co-creator Ryan Murphy last Saturday, and during the panel it was revealed that Peters stayed in character for months while making the show.
Four months of prep and six months of shooting were required to bring Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story to the screen, and during that time Peters wore weights on his arms and lifts in his shoes to match the real Dahmer’s physicality and did extensive research to get his dialect right. While Evan Peters is getting praised by critics and viewers (and deservedly so) for playing serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer on Netflix’s “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,” I wanted to shine an awards spotlight on another cast member who gives the best performance of her career: Niecy Nash. The actress plays the true hero of the story, Glenda Cleveland, who is frequently ignored by the authorities when she alerts them about the frightening happenings in her neighbor’s apartment.
“Glenda was one of his victims, too, and her story has been told the least of these,” Nash declares in a Netflix interview (watch below). Glenda repeatedly complains about the foul odors coming from Dahmer’s apartment, and dials 9-1-1 multiple times after hearing screaming and drilling coming through the vent. Sadly, if the cops had listened to her from the get-go, many of Dahmer’s future victims would likely still be alive today.

Our own Alex Maidy wasn’t very impressed with Netflix’s new limited series Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, which he gave a 6/10 review. A relative of one of Dahmer’s victims described the show as “cruel“. But Netflix subscribers certainly were curious to check it out. Netflix has announced that Dahmer debuted at #1 on the English TV list with 196.2 million hours viewed, making it the most viewed title on the streaming service this week. The series also broke into the Top 10 in 92 countries around the world. According to Deadline, Dahmer’s “hours viewed” number makes it one of the biggest hits on Netflix – at least since the streamer started reporting those numbers in June of 2021. The only shows that have had more hours viewed when they premiered were Squid Game, All of Us Are Dead, Stranger Things season 4, and Bridgerton season 2. Personally, I think it’s a...

The HBO comedy “Barry” is having a great day. First it reaped three Golden Globe nominations and then it earned another three bids at the Writers Guild of America Awards. At the WGA, it competes for Best Comedy Series writing as well as for an individual episode and for the catch-all Best New Series award.
For the comedy series award, “Barry” faces off against reigning Emmy champ “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” as well as “Atlanta,” “Glow” and “The Good Place.” “Barry” is the only comedy up for the new series award alongside the dramas “The Haunting of Hill House,” “Homecoming,” “Pose” and “Succession.”
Of those four, only “Succession” made it into Best Drama Series where it competes against the final season of “The Americans,” season 4 of “Better Call Saul” and the sophomore editions of “The Crown” and “The Handmaid’s Tale.”
The WGA Awards winners will be revealed on Feb.

SNL returns to the Comedy/Variety sketch series category it won last season, this time facing the likes of the final season for IFC’s Portlandia and Sarah Silverman’s Hulu docuseries I Love You, America. American Horror Story is a show that has never shied away from anything controversial. This is a programme where the romantic, Tumblr-approved heart-throb in the first season was a school shooter, gunned down by a Swat team in his very own home. The second season featured a woman bearing the child of rape, then shooting said child after he storms a television taping in an attempt to gun down his mother. The Writers Guild of America has just announced the nominations for their annual awards for Best Screenplays (by writers who are guild signatories). That’s right, before you get nervous thinking that your favorite may have been left off the list, you must remember that the WGA is the group that is not all-inclusive and leaves out several of the top contenders each year due to them not being part of the guild or not following their very specific rules. For this reason, you won’t see Inside Out, The Hateful Eight, and Ex Machina in the Original Screenplay category or Room, Brooklyn, or Anomalisa in the Adapted screenplay category.
Taking a look at what’s left over for the nominations, we find many that were expected to make a showing, including Spotlight and Bridge of Spies for Original Screenplay, though they apparently had to sink to really low depths...

Steeped in the hipster glow of Slamdance recognition (the ultimate in truly indie street cred), The Four-Faced Liar is a romantic comedy/drama for the gen Y crowd. Writer Marja Lewis Ryan adapted her own play for the screen, co-produced, and stars in the film, which features a lesbian romance at the center of its examination of 20-something relationships.
We begin with introductions all around. Trip (Todd Kubrak) is a cool, New Jersey-bred literature major that lives in a fabulously grungy New York City apartment with Bridget (Marja Lewis Ryan), an equally cool, womanizing lesbian with a real thing for Emily Bronte. In fact, we meet our heroine as she sits on a toilet, smoking a cigarette, a copy of Wuthering Heights in hand.
Along with Trip’s girlfriend Chloe (Liz Osborn), they meet a small town couple — Greg (Daniel Carlise) and Molly (Emily Peck, a dead ringer for Scarlett Johansson...
