Here Are Our Biggest Unanswered Questions After ‘Castlevania: Nocturne’ Season 2
Image
Editor's Note: The following contains spoilers for Season 2 of Castlevania: Nocturne.Castlevania: Nocturne's second season resolved much of the show's story. Beginning minutes after Season 1's conclusion the new episodes explore the heroes' next steps as Alucard (James Callis), Ritcher (Edward Bluemel), and Annette (Thuso Mbedu) look for a way to stop Erzsebet Báthory (Franka Potente) and Drolta (Elarica Johnson) from uniting Sekhmet's soul and Maria (Pixie Davies) faces the darkness within herself. Despite the epic battle that ends in victory for the heroes, there are some open-ended elements to the season finale as well. There is not yet confirmation of Castlevania: Nocturne getting a third season, but whether it is in a third season or a new spinoff, these cliffhangers demand further exploration.

Castlevania Nocturne Season 3 Just Got Set Up In 4 Key Ways
Image
While humanity was saved again in the last episode of Netflix's Castlevania: Nocturne, it still left plenty of key pieces of setup for Season 3.

The latest season of the Castlevania sequel series, Nocturne, came to an explosive end with the defeat of Erzsebet Báthory (Franka Potente), the self-declared Vampire Messiah, and her loyal servant, Drolta (Elarica Johnson).

However, that doesn't mean that the adventure is over for Richter Belmont (Edward Bluemel), Maria Renard (Pixie Davies), and Annette (Thuso Mbedu). The season concluded with both groups splitting up, potentially leaving them vulnerable to new dangers.

Castlevania: Nocturne Season 2 Makes The Show's Biggest Mystery Even More Confusing
Image
"Castlevania: Nocturne" season 2 sets up a lot of interesting threads for a potential season 3 and wraps up most of the big arcs from season 1. At the same time, the show hasn't fully answered one of its biggest mysteries, which has to do with the new kind of night creatures created by Abbott Emmanuel (Richard Dormer).

In the original "Castlevania" series, night creatures are created by devil forgemasters, human sorcerers who use a specific breed of dark magic to channel souls from hell into dead bodies, transforming them into monstrous creatures. These forgemasters each channel their spells through a specific, unique tool, and the monsters they create are loyal to them. In most cases, the souls channeled into the night creatures don't seem to be the same ones that the bodies housed in life, but there are some apparent exceptions to that rule. In general, though, night creatures are shown to be pretty mindless.

Who Is Juste Belmont In Castlevania: Nocturne & How He’s Related To Richter & Trevor
Image
Warning: This article contains Spoilers for Castlevania: Nocturne season 2.

Juste Belmont plays a big role in Castlevania: Nocturne season 2 after being introduced in the first season. With Castlevania: Nocturne set hundreds of years after Castlevania, the sequel series would have the chance to explore not only its lead Belmont character but also some of his ancestors. In the first episode of Castlevania: Nocturne, we are briefly introduced to Julia Belmont, who is killed by Olrox in front of her son, Richter. While Richter’s revenge took a backseat amid bigger problems, his lineage continued to be an important part of the story in season 2.

With Erzsebet Báthory and Drolta Tzuentes closer than ever to achieving their goals, the Castlevania: Nocturne characters had to join forces to avoid Sehkmet’s return. The final battle of Castlevania: Nocturne season 2 saw Richter, Annette, Maria, Alucard, and Juste teaming up to defeat both Erzsebet and Drolta,...

How Drolta Is Back In Castlevania: Nocturne Season 2 After Being Killed By Alucard
Image
Warning: This article contains Spoilers for Castlevania: Nocturne season 2.

Drolta Tzuentes is back in Castlevania: Nocturne season 2, even though she was apparently killed by Alucard at the end of season 1. In a world where vampires and night creatures exist, it can be difficult to keep track of Castlevania: Nocturne’s cast and whether certain characters are technically still alive. The Netflix animated series is set 300 years after Castlevania, with Castlevania: Nocturne season 2 picking up right where the previous season left off.

While Castlevania: Nocturne’s Erzsebet Báthory has been presented as the show’s main villain, the self-proclaimed Vampire Messiah was not the only threat faced by Richter Belmont. In fact, Erzsebet Báthory remained mostly in the shadows in season 1 as Drolta, her most loyal servant, made the necessary preparations for the return of the Goddess of War. However, Alucard effortlessly killed Drolta at the end of season 1, raising the...

‘Castlevania: Nocturne’ Season 2 Netflix Review: Sam & Adam Deats Brilliantly Defy The Sophomore Slump
Image
“Sophomore slump” is a term that’s commonly used to describe something or someone who failed to replicate the brilliance that they showcased on debut. I used to think that that was a phrase that people used to mask their misplaced sense of expectations and their inability to judge somebody’s work without unfairly comparing it to what they had done before. But 2025 started to prove me wrong. The first project that seemed to noticeably suffer from a case of sophomore slump was Bandidos. I really liked the first season as it reminded me of the Indiana Jones movies while giving off some Oceans vibes. The second season was just not up to the mark. Then there was Squid Game. The first season was phenomenal, but the second season was disastrous. After that came Silo, which had a pretty solid season 1 and an almost unwatchable season 2; no, seriously, the visuals were that bad.

Alucard’s Return In Castlevania: Nocturne Explained (& What It Means For Season 2)
Image
Warning: Major spoilers for the ending of Castlevania: Nocturne below!

Alucard returns in the finale of Castlevania: Nocturne to save the day, setting up big things for season 2. The events of the original Castlevania seem to have faded in the centuries between the two series, as characters like Annette haven't heard of Dracula or Alucard. Alucard's delayed entrance in Nocturne was intentional to allow viewers to invest in the new heroes and villains first, but his return will be crucial in helping undo Erzsebet Báthory's evil plans in season 2.

Alucard returned when all seemed lost in Castlevania: Nocturne, which means big things for season 2. Netflix's Castlevania was one of the first video game adaptations to receive a (mostly) positive critical reception. It managed to appeal to both fans of the games and newcomers, and after it came to an end after four seasons in 2021, a spinoff titled Nocturne was quickly announced.

Castlevania Nocturne Review: Move Over Dracula, It’s Erzsebet Bathory’s Turn
Image
This Castlevania review contains spoilers.

When Netflix’s Castlevania animated series first released in 2017, it was nothing short of a miracle: at last fans had a video game adaptation that was not only worthy of its beloved source material but was also a hell of a lot of fun to watch in its own right, especially in its early, Dracula-focused seasons. Netflix got the formula very right back then and its sequel, Castlevania: Nocturne, largely nails it too, even if its 8-episode first season sometimes drags in the middle.

Set in 1792, about 300 years after the adventures of Trevor Belmont, the events of Nocturne unfold during the chaos of the French Revolution, a very suitable backdrop for all the gruesome violence that ensues at the crack of a Belmont whip. Returning directors Sam and Adam Deats go for broke with action sequences that extract every last ounce of blood, guts,...

How ‘P-Valley’ Creator Landed Beyoncé’s ‘7/11’ for Season 2: ‘Katori Hall Wrote a Beautiful Letter to the Queen’
Image
Katori Hall’s “P-Valley,” a show about the female dancers at The Pynk, a popular strip club in Mississippi, uses music to shine a spotlight on southern female rappers and artists.

In putting together the soundtrack for the series, music supervisors Sarah Bromberg and Stephanie Diaz-Matos turned to the show’s stars, J. Alphonse Nicholson and Loretta Devine, as well as Beyoncé and Megan Thee Stallion, to curate the anthems for Brandee Evans’ Mercedes, Elarica Johnson’s Autumn Night and Nicco Annan’s Uncle Clifford.

Here, Bromberg and Diaz-Matos break down how they landed Beyoncé and other needle drops for the show’s second season.

“Way Back” by Enchanting

Bromberg: “Way Back” by Enchanting started as “Dance Song 4,” a brief for an original song written by producer Ian Olympio and showrunner and music supervisor Katori Hall. Katori and Ian write these incredible briefs for our original music with extraordinary detail and background,...

The Best Moments of ‘P-Valley’ Season 2
Image
There’s no show quite like “P-Valley.” Starz’s Mississippi-set crime drama may have flown under the awards radar after its first season, but its blend of film noir tension and soap opera theatrics — all set in the world of a small-town strip club called “The Pynk” — is more than deserving of its flowers.

Series creator Katori Hall developed the show for television based on her less shyly-named play “Pussy Valley.” But that’s a tidbit easy to forget when watching. This is a story that feels skillfully designed for the medium of television, where the eclectic cast of characters have room to grow and bounce off one another across arcs and seasons. “P-Valley” isn’t recognized enough for having one of the most colorful and talented ensembles on television: a team which includes Nicco Annan as the non-binary club owner Uncle Clifford; Brandee Evans as veteran dancer Mercedes; Elarica Johnson...

Starz Drama ‘P-Valley’ To Postpone Production; Katori Hall Says “We Will Not Film Until A Fair Deal Is Reached”
Image
Add another Starz series to the list of shows suspended as a result of the writers strike.

P-Valley has postponed its production in Atlanta.

Deadline understands that the series had recently finished its writers room for season three but production had not started.

Creator and showrunner Katori Hall said, “We will not be filming until a fair deal is reached”. We hear that filming had not started but Hall’s comments refer to the writers room.

“Like many of my fellow showrunners, I feel as though my writing and producing duties are inextricably linked,” she added, “I am also a member of the DGA whose AMPTP contract begins negotiations today. Overlapping issues abound and we shall see how these stories end. As a writer I strike with a sense of radical dignity — that our work must be valued for the magic it is.”

14 Great Bipoc and Aapi-Led Shows From 2022 You Should Watch
Image
The need and desire to see Black, Brown, Asian and Indigenous people on screen has yet to be completely fulfilled by Hollywood, but there has been a recent uptick in Aapi and Bipoc representation on screen. According to a 2021 Nielsen study titled “Being Seen on Screen,” data from the 2021 to 2021 television season showed 78 of the top 1,500 shows had some racial, ethnic or sexual orientation diversity.

And people want more representation, because not only does it increase the self-esteem for people of marginalized groups, reduce stereotypes and support the wants of viewers of color, it helps accurately portray the world and the people in it.

Here are 14 shows (in no particular order) from 2022 that had casts led by people of color that are well worth watching. These series either came out in 2022 or had a season premiere this year.

‘P-Valley’ Star Nicco Annan on Taking on Non-Binary Role: “I Did Not Want Her to Be a Joke”
Image
Click here to read the full article.

On Starz’s P-Valley, Nicco Annan’s Uncle Clifford, the proprietor of the Mississippi Delta strip club at the show’s center, is part grounded caregiver and part bon vivant business owner. Annan originated the character — who identifies as nonbinary and uses she/her pronouns — when Katori Hall’s Pussy Valley was a stage play, so the actor has inhabited the character for the better part of the past decade. Ahead of being honored with the actor award for television at the Critics Choice Awards’ Celebration of Black Cinema & Television on Dec. 5, Annan talked to THR about nonbinary representation and Uncle Clifford’s wardrobe, including a cape made out of Crown Royal bags.

From the beard to the hair to the nails, Uncle Clifford cuts a striking onscreen image. How much does her appearance inform your performance?

The transformation happens first in the makeup chair.

P-Valley Is The Best Show You're Not Watching, And It's Time To Fix That
Image
There have been rumors swirling for a while now that Lionsgate Entertainment's premium cable and satellite television network, Starz, is heading toward a possible sale. The channel has been delivering fantastic series and specials as of late, like "Gaslit," the Watergate drama starring Julia Roberts, and the upcoming return of the Hollywood catering comedy, "Party Down." Starz doesn't often get the spotlight compared to its contemporaries like HBO and Showtime, but the channel is home to one of the best shows in television history, and the fact the entire world isn't constantly running personal Emmy campaigns at all times for it is a crime ... especially when the show is heading into its third season.

"'P-Valley' continues to keep viewers on the edge of their seats as it captures the nuances of the Mississippi Delta with an unprecedented level of humanity and artistry," said Kathryn Busby, President of Original Programming at Starz.

P-Valley: Starz renews the acclaimed drama series for a third season
Image
Starz is letting the doors of the Pynk swing wide again by ordering a third season of the crime-related drama. P-Valley Season 3 will consist of 10 episodes produced by Lionsgate. The show hails from Katori Hall, who created, showruns, and executive produces the series. P-Valley takes place in the Pynk, a strip club in the Mississippi Delta in the American South. Often described as a neo-noir, P-Valley is a character-driven thriller led by four women: Brandee Evans as seasoned stripper Mercedes, Elarica Johnson as newcomer Autumn Night, Shannon Thornton as Miss Mississippi, and Skylar Joy as Gidget.

In Season 2, P-Valley presented a timely twist by seeing the Pynk struggle to remain in the game during the pandemic. Each episode built on a war for control of the club, with new faces adding plenty of spice to an already hot mix of personalities. Intimate and bold, P-Valley continues to explore the lives of the main cast,...

"P-Valley"'s Katori Hall on the Spectacle of Season 2: "Everybody Can Clock That the Show Is Good"
Image
We're way beyond the days of calling "P-Valley" a TV series just about strippers. Katori Hall's acclaimed Starz drama reached breakout success after its first season aired in the summer of 2020, largely because it created a raw yet empowering space for strip-club culture to be seen in a way that's rarely displayed on television. But the show accomplished so much more than that in season two.

"P-Valley" took braver steps with its second installment to depict issues far too complex to be contained inside a small-town, neon-lit club, aka The Pynk - including poverty, politics, sexual identity, systemic racism, domestic violence, misogyny, and a pandemic. "The second season is crafted better in terms of dramatic construction," Hall tells Popsugar. "That feeling of, 'Oh my God, what's going to happen next?' Being overwhelmed, I think, is very much a part of the feeling of season two."

"'P-Valley'...
