Daniel Mays to Play Prolific U.K. Sex Attacker in ITV True Crime Series ‘Believe Me’
Image
British star Daniel Mays (Line of Duty, Des, Atonement) will play prolific sex attacker John Worboys in a new ITV true crime series.

ITV’s director of drama Polly Hill has commissioned the four-part show, Believe Me, written by the BAFTA-winning Jeff Pope and produced by his production company Etta Pictures (part of ITV Studios).

The series will tell the true story of the three victims of Worboys, dubbed the “black cab rapist” by the British press after he used his profession as a licensed taxi driver to prey on the women of London in a spate of crimes committed between 2006 and 2008.

Aimée-Ffion Edwards (Slow Horses) Miriam Petche (Industry) and Aasiya Shah (Raised by Wolves) will star as the women Worboys sexually assaulted and ultimately made to feel as though they were “just not believed.” Believe Me will cover how Metropolitan Police failings allowed Worboys to remain undetected for years,...

Daniel Mays To Play Serial Rapist John Worboys In ITV Drama ‘Believe Me’ Opposite Aimée-Ffion Edwards, Aasiya Shah & ‘Industry’ Breakout Miriam Petche
Image
Exclusive: John Worboys, who was dubbed the “Black Cab Rapist” by the British press, is to be played by Daniel Mays in Jeff Pope’s latest factual drama series for ITV.

Mays (A Thousand Blows) will star opposite Aimée Ffion-Edwards (Peaky Blinders), Aasiya Shah (Raised by Wolves) and Industry breakout Miriam Petche, who will play three of his victims.

Worboys is one of the most notorious serial rapists in British history. His modus operandi was to tell women in his cab that he’d won some money and then persistently offer them a glass of champagne, which he’d laced with drugs, and which rendered his victims unconscious. He was convicted in 2009 for sexually assaulting 12 women between 2006 and 2008, with their cases selected from a large number of suspected further victims.

Believe Me will focus on how the Metropolitan Police failed to thoroughly investigate two women’s allegations, which left Worboys...

Saddening Reason Why Joe Cole Left ‘Peaky Blinders’
Image
Joe Cole’s exit from Peaky Blinders was not exactly by order of the show’s global fanbase. Though his filmography is wide-ranging, he is still best known for playing John Shelby, the youngest of the iconic Shelby trio. What makes his departure even harder to accept is the reason behind it; Cole revealed he left because he felt he never got the chance to live up to his potential on the show.

The first four seasons of the iconic period drama aired on the BBC before the show moved to BBC One for the last two seasons. The show quickly grew a cult following when it was added to Netflix for viewing in the US and worldwide. From the get-go, it was established that Cillian Murphy‘s Thomas ‘Tommy’ Shelby was the head of the family, although he was the second-oldest brother.

Unfortunately for the fans, Tommy’s younger brother,...

‘Slow Horses’ Boss Will Smith to Exit After Season 5
Image
“Slow Horses” is losing a key player after Season 5. Executive producer Will Smith, who writes and essentially serves as showrunner — though that title is not used in UK productions — will exit the show after the episodes premiering this fall, TheWrap has learned.

The Apple TV+ drama series starring Gary Oldman has already been renewed for two more seasons. Writers Gabby Chiappe and Ben Vanstone were tapped to lead the charge for Seasons 6 and 7, respectively.

Smith teased in an interview with Deadline that Season 5 will “close out certain storylines” that have been prevalent since the start of the show, making it the right time to hand over the show to other creatives. Season 5 is set to premiere Sept. 24.

The upcoming fifth and sixth seasons are expected to adapt Mick Herron’s novels “London Rules,” “Joe Country” and “Slough House.” “Ted Lasso” star Nick Mohammed joins the cast as a special guest...

Emmy-Nominated ‘Slow Horses’ Writer/EP Will Smith To Exit Show After Season 5; Reveals Emotional Farewell And His Dream Spin-Off
Image
Slow Horses writer and executive producer Will Smith has revealed to Deadline that he will close the door on Slough House for good after Season 5, which will premiere this fall on Apple TV+.

Smith, set the tone and kept the bar high for the faithful screen adaptation of Mick Herron’s series of spy novels, and has shepherded Slow Horses all the way from its inception. He admitted “there were certainly some private tears” as Season 5 production came to a close.

Smith is Emmy-nominated in Writing and Drama Series this year and won for Writing last year. Slow Horses has already been renewed up to Season 7 and Smith has handed over the reins for Season 6 to Gaby Chiappe, and Ben Vanstone for Season 7, but will not remain on the production in any capacity beyond Season...

What Each ‘Slow Horses’ Character Did to Get Exiled From MI5 and End Up in Slough House

Slough House in Apple TV+’s Slow Horses is the equivalent of a dumping ground. It’s where the MI5 sends its disgraced agents who are misfits but aren’t useless enough to let go of completely. Adapted from Mick Herron’s Slough House novels, the show follows a ragtag group of dishonored spies under Jackson Lamb’s abrasive leadership.

These agents are the ones who are given the name of the titular “slow horses,” as they hope to get redemption for their mistakes. Till then, they do menial tasks in the dingy office and survive the drudgery till their time comes. But what did these agents do that brought them to the Slough House? Each MI5 agent comes with a unique backstory. So, let’s dive into why these characters were booted from the MI5 and brought to the Slough House.

The Future of Apple TV+’s ‘Slow Horses’ Has Been Decided Ahead of Season 5 Premiere
Image
Slough House must be doing something right. Despite their infamous ability to fumble their missions, the agents from Slow Horses are getting yet another season to keep trying to be the best among the worst. Today, Apple TV+ announced that the hit thriller series led by Gary Oldman (Oppenheimer) has been renewed for Season 7. The announcement comes before Season 5 even premiered on the platform. The newest season debuts this September, and Season 7 will probably debut in 2027.

The early renewal indicates that, once again, Apple TV+ is happy with the content that showrunner Will Smith (Veep) has been delivering year after year. The series has been repeatedly praised with every new season, with its four seasons averaging a near-perfect 98% score on Rotten Tomatoes and Seasons 2 and 4 earning a 100% score each. Additionally, the show has been nominated at the Emmys, BAFTAs, and several other awards throughout its run.

Wait what? There are rumors of an Elden Ring movie potentially produced by A24 and directed by Alex Garland. He definitely has the acting chops. | Image Credit: Marvel Studios

Gary Oldman, Jack Lowden, Kristin Scott Thomas, Jonathan Pryce: Here is every ‘Slow Horses’ Emmy acting submission for Season 4
Image
Slow Horses is saddled up and ready to get back in the Emmys race.

Gold Derby has confirmed that the Apple TV+ drama is submitting nine different actors for its fourth season.

Gary Oldman, who plays the unkempt, flatulent head of the Slough House, Jackson Lamb, will be submitted in Best Drama Actor. The Oscar winner (Darkest Hour) was nominated in this category last year for Season 3 and earned one prior Emmy bid in 2001 for his guest appearance on Friends.

Two more past nominees will be submitted in the Best Drama Supporting Actor category: Jack Lowden as River Cartwright, a former M15 agent exiled to the Slough House; and Jonathan Pryce — who competed in the guest category last year — as David Cartwright, a retired M15 officer and River's grandfather. They'll be joined on the ballot by Christopher Chung as computer whiz Roddy Ho and Kadiff Kirwan as the dearly departed Marcus Longridge.

‘Mr. Burton’ Review: Harry Lawtey Plays the Pride of Wales, and Toby Jones the Man Who Made Him, in a Gentle Showbiz Origin Story
Image
Richard Burton never got around to writing an official set of memoirs before his untimely, alcohol-hastened death in 1984, though the star’s posthumously published diaries are among the great volumes of their kind in the showbiz library: sometimes brutally candid about himself, often savagely catty about others, and reflective of a wry, wicked mind behind the boorish antics that kept him in the headlines. There’s little of that wit or mischief to be found in Marc Evans’ quiet, earnestly soft-hearted biopic “Mr. Burton,” though that discrepancy is at least partly the point.

Dramatizing the Welshman’s formative early years as an actor, from his rough working-class adolescence to the brink of celebrity in his mid-twenties, Evans’ film intends to show us an unformed boy scarcely recognizable as the imposing, burgundy-voiced lead of “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” and “Look Back in Anger,” right down to his unfamiliar childhood name: Richie Jenkins.

Harry Lawtey Becomes Richard Burton In Biopic Mr. Burton – Exclusive Trailer
Image
When it comes to legends of the big screen, few names loom larger than Richard Burton. With his rugged good looks, incomparable baritone, reputation for raising hell, and magnetic charisma, the seven-time Oscar nominated Welshman — star of Look Back In Anger, Cleopatra, Becket, Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf? — sits comfortably among Hollywood's all-time greats. But before there was Burton, there was Richard Jenkins, a young boy from Port Talbot with a head full of dreams and a long, long way to go to realise them. It's this story that Marc Evans' Mr. Burton – which stars Harry Lawtey (Joker: Folie À Deux) as a pre-Hollywood Jenkins, and Toby Jones as his unlikely mentor (and eventual adoptive father) Philip Burton – is set to tell. Check out an exclusive first trailer for the film below:

Releasing in this, the year that marks Richard Burton's 100th birthday, Mr. Burton promises to tell quite the origin story.

Peaky Blinders Creator Teases New Series and Other Plans After Upcoming Film
Image
Peaky Blinders hopes to continue living long in the memories of fans thanks to its anticipated big-screen adaptation, The Immortal Man. However, the hit show's creator insists there's more to come from his popular franchise once the movie debuts.

Speaking with Paris Match (via Screen Rant), Peaky Blinders' brainchild Stephen Knight teased what fans can expect beyond The Immortal Man. According to Knight, he has an idea for a "new generation" sequel series that will be set after the upcoming film. Additionally, he suggested he could expand the Peaky Blinders franchise beyond upcoming screen projects. "We are going to focus on the new generation in a series that will take place after the Second World War. And then, who knows? Why not a clothing line?" Knight said. These comments elaborate on teases he made last year insisting the upcoming film wouldn't be the end of the Peaky Blinders franchise.

'Peaky Blinders' Creator Steven Knight Developing Spinoff Series

Cillian Murphy's time in Peaky Blinders might be coming to a close with the upcoming movie, but the franchise will reportedly live on in a brand-new spin-off show. Creator Steven Knight introduced audiences to Tommy Shelby back in 2013. Set just after the first World War, Peaky Blinders saw Tommy return to Birmingham to lead the titular gang, along with his brother Arthur Shelby (Paul Anderson), and Aunt Polly Gray (Helen McCrory). The hit series came to an end in 2022 after Season 6, and Knight is bringing Shelby's story to a close with the upcoming Netflix film. But the Peaky Blinders conquest won't stop there, as Knight has unveiled plans for the franchise to live on beyond Tommy Shelby.

Speaking to French outlet Paris Match, Steven Knight teased how the Peaky Blinders universe could extend beyond the upcoming film. As well as writing and directing the movie, Knight has also...

Hugo Weaving Will Return to 'Slow Horses' in Season 5
Image
Who doesn't enjoy watching a good actor absolutely chew through the scenery as a big baddie? That's at least part of the appeal of Hugo Weaving's diabolically evil character in Slow Horses. The acclaimed Australian actor first showed up in the Apple TV+ series in season four and changed the game for the at-times dysfunctional MI5 agents and it looks like his character, Frank Harkness, is going to return in the already-confirmed fifth season of the Gary Oldman-starring series.

While speaking at the International Film Festival of India in Goa, according to Variety, Weaving confirmed that Harkness will be back, explaining that he will head to London in January for a two and a half month shoot. Whether that includes an appearance in the also-confirmed sixth season remains to be seen.

Slow Horses has been an immense hit for the streaming service. The show follows the idiosyncratic team...
