6 best Netflix fantasy shows, ranked
Image
When most people think of successful fantasy TV shows, HBO and Prime Video are probably the first two networks that come to mind. They’ve both upped their investments in the fantasy genre lately with new seasons of House of the Dragon, The Wheel of Time, The Rings of Power, and more, but Netflix isn’t that far behind.

There are some great Netflix fantasy shows to stream right now! Since Game of Thrones, Netflix has quietly assembled an epic lineup of fantasy shows. There were so many shows that could have made this list, but I wanted to choose a very small, select group of shows that fantasy fans need to watch if they haven’t yet.

So, let’s get the ranking of the best Netflix fantasy shows started with Shadow and Bone.

6. Shadow and Bone Shadow and Bone. (L to R) Archie Renaux as Malyen Oretsev, Jessie Mei Li...

The Cursed (2021)
The #1 Horror Movie on Netflix is Star-Studded and Has “Insanely cool special effects”
The Cursed (2021)
Werewolf movies are hard to get right. The creature design and transformation sequences are crucial to the success of these films, yet both are notoriously expensive to render. As such, there are a handful of classic lycanthrope pictures that we keep going back to, but few recent efforts seem to stand the test of time.

With that said, there are at least a handful of contemporary werewolf films that get more right than wrong. At least one such example seems to have flown largely under the radar thanks to a lackluster showing at the box office.

I’m talking about The Cursed. The film, which sometimes gets mistaken for Wes Craven’s Cursed, plays out like this: In 19th-century France, a man arrives in a remote country village to investigate an attack by a wild animal. However, he soon discovers a much deeper and sinister force that has the manor...

The Sandman Showrunner Reveals How Finale's Massive Twist Was Kept Secret
Image
The following contains major spoilers for The Sandman Season 2, Episode 11, "A Tale of Graceful Ends," now streaming on Netflix.

The Sandmanshowrunner Allan Heinberg is telling how he kept the Netflix show's biggest twist under wraps. It turns out that Daniel Hall's fate quiet was a team effort.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Heinberg explained how he was able to prevent the big surprise -- that the infant Daniel Hall would become the new Dream -- from being leaked before the finale aired. "Once I found out that [actor Jacob Anderson] was available, we were done," he said. "It was one conversation on Zoom. It was a few months before we shot. If it was like, 'Let's get Jacob in and we're going to start shooting next week,' it might've been more of a thing."

"But also, so much of it was on the sound stages," Heinberg continued. "That beautiful lobby...

The Sandman EP Explains Morpheus Getting "Rid of Those Chains" in Season 2
Image
The Sandmanexecutive producer explains just what it means that Morpheus will be getting "rid of those chains" in Season 2.

Speaking to TVLine, The Sandman executive producer and showrunner Allan Heinberg broke down the personal journey that Tom Sturride's Dream, also known as Morpheus, is going on in Season 2, as well as how his siblings' lives have impacted his trajectory as a character. "I think part of the reason he’s so angry at Destruction is that he’s so jealous, and it’s not fair that he has to stay and clean up the mess. They all have to clean up Destruction’s mess," Heinberg explained.

"Dream is utterly defined by his duties and his responsibilities, and I think he longs for a purpose outside his function. There’s something in us that just needs the freedom to try things and be somewhat different and all that stuff. And he’s never done it,...

Yellowstone Star's Underrated Gothic Horror Movie Is Now A Hit On Netflix
Image
An underseen gothic horror starring Yellowstone’sKelly Reilly has found belated success on Netflix. Reilly portrayed Beth, the only daughter of John and Evelyn Dutton, opposite Kevin Costner on the hit TV Western from 2018 to 2024. However, Reilly’s career also includes appearances across genres in everything from Sherlock Holmes to True Detective.

As an actress whose career boasts acclaimed roles in both film and television, Reilly has had several underrated performances in lesser-known projects. Now, thanks to streaming's power to shine a new light on underappreciated releases, one chilling 2021 horror is gaining a second lease on life as it’s shot up the Netflix streaming charts.

Director Sean Ellis has had an unusual career; if it seems like his fellow Brits, David Mackenzie and Kevin Macdonald have been genre-agnostic, Ellis has taken things a step farther. He remains best known for the deeply affecting drama Metro Manila, which is essentially a foreign-language film. But a few years ago, he tried his hand at horror. He directed the werewolf movie The Cursed, starring Kelly Reilly and Boyd Holbrook, and while the film didn't make much of a dent at the box office, it's climbing up the streaming ranks following its Netflix debut.

According to FlixPatrol, The Cursed was the sixth-most-popular film on Netflix in the United States on July 20, beating the likes of Brick, Penguins of Madagascar, Despicable Me 4, and The Old Guard 2. That's quite a diverse slate of titles for any film to outperform, let alone one that barely got a theatrical release despite being designed for one.

Every Season Of Netflix's Narcos, Ranked
Image
Netflix's "Narcos" is far more than one of the best Pedro Pascal TV shows out there. Inspired by real (and often extremely terrifying) events, the show chronicles the story of various drug cartels from the 1970s to the 1990s. Initially, the focus is on the most infamous cocaine trafficker of them all -- Wagner Moura's celebrity narcoterrorist Pablo Escobar -- but the combined six seasons of "Narcos" and "Narcos: Mexico" feature several other kingpins, as well as the many officers and agents who are risking life and limb to stop them.

"Narcos" is the kind of show that can easily drop the viewer down a rabbit hole of crime history. Its depiction of dangerous locales that range from Medellin to Ciudad Juárez sucks the viewer right in, and many of the key events on the show really happened ... up to and very much including some of the most disturbing ones.

With just two months until the premiere of The Morning Show, it's finally time to start getting hyped up for the newest season of the hit series. The teaser trailer doesn't reveal much in terms of story, and also provides no sneak peek of the scenes that we're about to witness in Season 4. Instead, it focuses on the intrigue and how the show will continue to be a war in which the weapons are narratives, manipulation, moral conflict, and bottom lines. ‘Morning Show’ Season 4 Teaser: Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon Juggle Conflicting Opinions Post-Merger
Image
After two years Apple TV+’s flagship series “The Morning Show” will return to the streamer this September, and this time Bradley Jackson (Reese Witherspoon) and Alex Levy (Jennifer Aniston) are facing heightened responsibilities and scrutiny from the public.

The fourth season, which was delayed by SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes in 2023, jumps ahead two years to take place in spring 2024. The Uba-nbn merger was finalized after Alex successfully usurped her tech billionaire love interest, Paul Marks (Jon Hamm), and blocked his potential acquisition of the network. Now, the newsroom faces a new challenge in appealing to the public as truth is constantly in question and the country is more polarized than ever.

Reno will star as a former WWI commando whose life of quiet service is violently disrupted when a dangerous past resurfaces.

“The Butler” delivers “a bold and visually arresting twist on the revenge thriller—merging kinetic action with the simmering drama of a household caught between loyalty and survival,” according to a statement.

The screenplay was written by Tom Edmunds and Craig McInnes, based on an original story by McInnes.

Daniel Baur’s K5 Intl. added more sales since the presentations of the new feature at Berlinale and Cannes this year, including Splendid Film (German-speaking territories), Polarstar (LatAm), Spi Intl. Kenneth Branagh, Producer Charles Roven Set For ‘The Thomas Crown Affair’ At Amazon MGM
Image
Exclusive: Amazon MGM Studios’ Michael B. Jordan-directed reimagining of The Thomas Crown Affair has added a pair of Oscar winners to its team: Kenneth Branagh (Belfast), who joins in an undisclosed (we’re told villainous) role, and producer Charles Roven (Oppenheimer), who will produce the film via his Atlas Entertainment banner, alongside Jordan and Elizabeth Raposo via Outlier Society, and others.

As previously announced, Jordan and Taylor Russell lead the cast of the film, which shoots this summer and is slated for an exclusive theatrical release on March 5, 2027.

While plot details are being kept under wraps, both the original 1968 film from United Artists and the 1999 remake from MGM were heist stories revolving around a wealthy, thrill-seeking man who orchestrates a high-stakes robbery simply for the challenge, only to find himself entangled in a complex cat-and-mouse game with a brilliant investigator.

As previously reported, Drew Pearce wrote the script for The Thomas Crown Affair,...

This Cancelled DC Comics Series Just Returned to Netflix, And Was Met With a Disappointing Rt Score
Image
The Sandman -- the cancelled DC Comics series currently airing on Netflix -- has finally returned for a second season. But both critics and audiences aren't enjoying the show's send-off as much as its first season.

The Sandman premiered on Netflix on Aug. 5, 2022 to critical acclaim and earned a Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Seasom 1 has an 88% approval rating from critics and a similarly high audience score of 81%. Season 2 is performing considerably worse, at 75% and 72% respectively.

The Sandman's Season 2 reviews aren't very promising so far -- and if they dip much lower, the new season will be entering Rotten territory. Critic Melanie McFarland writes for Salon.com that "The second season’s opening episodes drag like an inescapable, non-refreshing Rem state." Even a more positive review of Season 2 comes with a word of caution. Ed Power of the UK's Daily Telegraph says, "The Sandman isn't for everyone. This is hardcore geek material -- portentous,...

The Sandman Season 2 Volume 1 TV Review: The epic fantasy series returns with expansive new tales
Image
Plot: After a fateful reunion with his family, Dream of the Endless must face one impossible decision after another as he attempts to save himself, his kingdom, and the waking world from the epic fallout of his past misdeeds. To make amends, Dream must confront longtime friends and foes, gods, monsters, and mortals. But the path to forgiveness is full of unexpected twists and turns, and true absolution may cost Dream everything.

Review: Despite a long road to the screen, The Sandman‘s first season resonated with fans and critics and easily earned a second volume. After some tangential issues behind the scenes, Netflix revealed that the sophomore run of the adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s comic book series would also be its last. Split into two volumes with a special finale episode, The Sandman will dominate the month of July while leading fans to wonder what could be next...

14 Years Later, John Cena’s Forgotten 9% Rotten Tomatoes Action Movie Is Climbing American Streaming Charts
Image
John Cena is set to reprise his role as Peacemaker in the second season of his hit DC show next month, but ahead of its arrival, a long-forgotten action film from the WWE star has returned to streaming charts. Cena stars alongside Ethan Embry and Boyd Holbrook in The Reunion, a 2011 action film following three half-siblings who go to Mexico as bounty hunters with the hopes of inheriting $3 million from their dad. The Reunion is currently streaming for free on Tubi, and it’s one of the most popular movies on the streamer in America, sitting at #7 at the time of writing. The film grossed only $1.6 million on limited screens against a $6 million budget, and it earned disastrous scores of 9% from critics and 32% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Reunion was one of the earlier movies for John Cena, who made his feature acting debut in 2006 on The Marine, the...

Everything to know before 'The Morning Show' Season 4 hits Apple TV+
Image
Deepfakes, AI, and a messy merger set the stage for another explosive season.

I’ve been hooked on “The Morning Show” from the word go. I mean, come on, that first season featured Steve Carell teaming up with Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston for a sharp, behind-the-scenes drama about morning news? I was all in before the first episode even aired. And honestly, this is kind of Apple TV+’s whole deal: take massive talent, throw them into big, complicated stories, and let the sparks fly. Every season has been messy in the best way — full of power plays, bad decisions, and people trying (and failing) to do the right thing. Now with Season 4 dropping Wednesday, Sept. 17, we’re in for another wild ride. Let’s break it all down. Here’s everything to know about “The Morning Show” Season 4.

David S. Goyer: ‘I’d Be Crazy to Say It Wasn’t Weird’ to Work on ‘The Sandman’ Amid Neil Gaiman Allegations
Image
David S. Goyer understands: it was “weird” to work on “The Sandman” Season 2 after various allegations against author and co-creator Neil Gaiman were made public. Goyer, created the series alongside Gaiman, told Variety that while Gaiman “wasn’t as involved in Season 2 as he was in Season 1,” the accusations against him still impacted the rollout of the Netflix show.

Gaiman was accused by multiple women of engaging in nonconsensual “rough and degrading sex” and coercion during Tortoise Media‘s four-part podcast “Master: The Allegations Against Neil Gaiman.” Gaiman denied the sexual assault and rape allegations in July 2024. Amid the claims against Gaiman, his “Good Omens” series debuted a third season that consisted solely of a 90-minute finale episode; an animated project was also shelved.

“The Sandman” Season 2, which starts streaming on July 3, will be the final season of the DC Comics series. At the time when the allegations against Gaiman were released,...
