Death and Cremation (2010)
Directed by: Justin Steele

Written by: Justin Steele, Alecc Bracero

Featuring: Brad Dourif, Jeremy Sumpter, Scott Elrod, Debbon Ayer

Labels are funny things. Just because something — say, a movie — can be categorized one way doesn't necessarily mean that's exactly what it is. As an example, I offer Death and Cremation, a 2010 film from director Justin Steele.

Judged on a simple synopsis, Death and Cremation is a thriller. Brad Dourif plays Stanley, a serial killer whose "day job" as a crematorium owner allows him the perfect way to facilitate his hobby. Into his life comes Jarod (Jeremy Sumpter), a bullied teenage misanthrope who looks like the lost member of Fall Out Boy and needs a job and a father figure. When Jarod's bullies start disappearing, Jarod comes to suspect that Stanley is responsible. When...

‘Death and Cremation’ – New Poster
The debut of director Justin Steele, Death and Cremation is from a script by Alecc Bracero and Justin Steele, and stars Brad Dourif along with Jeremy Sumpter (Friday Night Lights), Scott Elrod, Debbon Ayer, Daniel Baldwin (Homicide: Life on the Street), and Staci Keenan (My Two Dads) in a story that takes place:

In a typical American suburb filled with middle-class morals, Stan (Dourif), a lonely 59-year-old, contributes to society by offering cremation services from his basement.

In fact, Stan murders neighbors he perceives to be social bullies. Jarod (Sumpter), a bullied and fatherless 17-year-old high school outcast, lands an after-school job in Stan’s cremation house; and the two develop an unusual working relationship that quickly evolves into a partnership.

As middle-aged detective Matt Fairchild, in search of an exciting case, puts the clues of their killings together, Stan must decide if protecting his newfound trainee is worth killing for.

Brad Dourif attends a ‘Death and Cremation’
Actor Brad Dourif is most commonly known for his roles in genre fare such as Exorcist 3, Grim Prairie Tales, and the Child’s Play series. In more recent years Dourif has expanded his repertoire on television with roles in Deadwood and Law & Order, but that hasn’t stopped him returning to the more creepy roles with which he made his name, such as in his latest movie Death and Cremation.

The debut of director Justin Steele, Death and Cremation is from a script by Alecc Bracero and Justin Steele, and stars Dourif along with Jeremy Sumpter (Friday Night Lights), Scott Elrod, Debbon Ayer (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), Daniel Baldwin (Homicide: Life on the Street), and Staci Keenan (My Two Dads, Step by Step) in a story that takes place:

In Crest Point, [where] people go about their day-to-day lives with no sense of urgency and standard stereotypes abound. There...
