New Delhi, Aug 10 (Ians) Indian startup employees received an average salary increment of 8 to 12 per cent in 2022-2023, with the variation attributable to individual and company performance, the quality and level of talent, and location, a new report showed on Thursday.
According to the venture capital firm Elevation Capital, the performance of employees continued to hold 50 per cent of the weightage on salary increments while taking on additional responsibilities and receiving a promotion factored in about 20 per cent.
“The shift in the market situation has led to a correction in salaries, though largely at the leadership level. Interestingly, on the other hand, job seekers are willing to wait longer for the right job opportunity than settle for less-than-ideal pay,” said Dipesh Jain, Avp – Talent, Elevation Capital.
Moreover, the report said that the companies delayed salary increments or provided new stock grants instead of cash increments for leadership roles.

Gali Guleiyan
Starring Manoj Bajpai, Ranveer Shorey, Neeraj Kabi, Shahana Goswami, Om Singh
Directed by Dipesh Jain
Rarely does the location serve as an antagonist. In most films the environment that nurtures the plot and the characters is captured with affection.
Not so in Gali Guleiyan. It is the first film I’ve seen that doesn’t romanticize the location that nurtures the characters’ innermost fears of being trapped in the environment that breeds only stagnancy.
Old Delhi, Chandni Chowk is the villain of debutant director Dipesh Jain’s haunting parable on desolation and self-destruction. Manoj Bajpai has portrayed loneliness before with remarkable resonance and restrain in Hansal Mehta’s Aligarh. Here it is a quality of exacerbated desolation conveying such ennerving decreptitude that we soon realize we can’t trust Khudoos (Bajpai) to tell the truth to himself, let alone to his only friend Ganeshi or to us, the...

From the moment we see Khuddoos (Manoj Bajpayee in yet another moving and masterful performance), an Old Delhi shopkeeper, we know that this is a man with his own demons, his eyes wary and watchful as he views closed circuit camera footage, his fingers flicking switches that allow him to see what’s happening in his neighbourhood, from cameras that he has jerry-rigged with his skills as a local repairman. When his only friend, Ganeshi (Ranvir Shorey) arrives, we learn that Khuddoos hasn’t left his home in five days, not going to his shop. He’s upset at the footage he’s seen of a woman kissing a man who is not her husband, while her husband and children eat dinner next door. Khuddoos insists on showing Ganeshi the footage, distressed at the thought that this woman might be doing something that will eventually harm her children.

Manoj Bajpayee has always stood out for his challenging choice of roles. From movies like ‘Satya’, ‘Pinjar’ and ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ to his recent ‘Aligarh’, his performances have remarkably raised the bar of acting in the industry. The actor has now bagged the award for best actor at the prestigious New York Indian Film Festival for his Hindi psychological drama – Gali Guleiyan. As always the actor went deep into character, so much so that he is once again almost unrecognizable.
Commenting on the award, the actor said, “When we didn’t get an award for Aligarh (2016), Hansal personally was very disappointed as Aligarh was a special film for both of us. Delhi's dark alleyways get their closeup in filmmaker Dipesh Jain's Gali Guliyaan (In the Shadows), a psychological thriller about paranoia, isolation, and the long lasting effects of trauma. Khuddoos (Manoj Bajpayee) is a loner, a man who lives vicariously through his neighbors and who sees the world through the dozens of security monitors he has set up in his sparse office. He's obsessed with watching, with the voyeurism that makes him both all-knowing and invisible at the same time. He speaks only when necessary, and one gets the impression he'd forget to eat if he weren't reminded. His only real connection is to his friend Ganeshi (Ranvir Shorey), who helps to makes sure Khuddoos is fed and taken care of and protects him from the...

A thriller whose tense, dystopian atmosphere distantly recalls Coppola’s The Conversation, Dipesh Jain’s Hindi language feature In the Shadows (Gali Guliyan) explores the roots of paranoia in a loner intent on spying on his neighbors. Here the protag's obsession expresses itself through cheap, jerry-rigged surveillance cameras that he watches with morbid fascination. Earning a jury mention at the Mumbai film festival's Asian Gold competition, this first feature boasts promising intensity, even if its narrative complexity feels contrived. And the shadows cast over an innocent psyche can feel very heavy-handed and downbeat.

Film Bazaar: Three of the Work-in-Progress Lab projects at this year’s Film Bazaar are international co-productions, suggesting Indian filmmakers are getting to grips with the complexities of working with Europe.
Among the line-up of rough cuts screening at the market are Dipesh Jain’s In The Shadows, a co-production between UK-Indian production house Exstant Motion Pictures, founded by Shuchi Jain, and German producer Lena Vurma’s Dragonfly Films.
“Shuchi came on board early to produce and finance the film, but we didn’t have a huge amount of sales experience, so Lena joined to help us produce and handle sales on the film,” said Dipesh Jain, who met Vurma at Film Bazaar in 2013.
Starring Manoj Bajpayee and Belgian actress Laura Verlinden (The Brand New Testament), the film is a psychological drama about a man who is trapped within the walls of Delhi’s old city and his own mind.

1. What motivated you to apply for Berlinale Talents?
I learnt about Berlin Talents a while back. It is a great platform for young filmmakers – meet and interact, discuss films and find future collaborators and partners. I live in Los Angeles and there, young and upcoming American writer/directors talk mostly about Sundance and Tribeca and their artist programs.
