It’s bad news for fans of one of Netflix’s most popular shows, as a new production update suggests we could be waiting some time before the confirmed second season ever rolls around. Debuting back in June last year, the first season of the sci-fi superhero series Supacelltook audiences by storm, landing a perfect score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and finding millions of viewers as it took the #1 spot in Netflix's global Top 10.

Created and written by Andrew "Rapman" Onwubolu, Supacell stars Tosin Cole, Adelayo Adedayo, Josh Tedeku, Nadine Mills, Eric Kofi-Abrefa, Calvin Demba, Ghetts, Digga D, and Eddie Marsan, and strives to tell a different kind of superhero story, dropping audiences in London where several normal people begin to exhibit strange powers.

Supacell was a huge success with both critics and audiences alike, with the show being renewed for a second season (a rarity on Netflix) back in August.

It is rare for a TV show to land a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score that sticks, but a Netflix take on the superhero genre, Supacell, was one of those rare projects that did everything right. Although it took a while for Season 2 to be greenlit by the streamer, fans finally learned the fate of the show in August 2024, but since then, updates have been scarce. Thanks to Radio Times, however, we have a slightly better idea of what to expect from the next season.

Supacell was created and written by Rapman (Andrew Onwubolu), and stars Tosin Cole, Adelayo Adedayo, Josh Tedeku, Nadine Mills, Eric Kofi-Abrefa, Calvin Demba, Ghetts, Digga D, and Eddie Marsan. While there are a bunch of good Netflix shows coming in 2025, there were also a lot of good Netflix shows that were overlooked last year. We shared a list of the seven best Netflix shows you might have missed in 2024.

Overall, 2024 was a challenging year for new TV and film. Because Netflix and the other studios were unable to make a deal with the actors' and writers' unions, TV production was delayed for the majority of 2023. So, in 2024, there simply were fewer shows than fans were expecting. And yet, there were still several underrated series fans needed to watch. Well, now, it's time to get caught up before Netflix starts dropping even more big shows in 2025.

For some reason, Adeel Akhtar stars in three of the seven Netflix shows I picked. That was not intentional, but my guy is an incredible actor! Everything he's in is good!

We're getting closer to the end of the year, which means we're running out of time to highlight some of the most underrated shows of the year. For me, the end of the year is always a good time to look back and show a little love to the shows that didn't quite get the response, viewership, or respect from viewers, fans, and critics that they deserved.

If you missed any of the eight underrated shows of 2024, I highly recommend you give them a try when you have a chance. I guarantee you won't be too disappointed.

For this list, I only included new shows. Of course, there are a lot of underrated returning shows that had new seasons in 2024, but I wanted to share the new shows from 2024 that deserved more love and popularity from fans and critics!

Supacell is a 2024 British superhero television series, created and written by Rapman for Netflix. It was directed by Rapman and Sebastian Thiel, and premiered with six episodes on 27th June 2024.

Set in modern-day South London, the series is about a group of five ordinary black people, unified by family history of sickle cell disease. They unexpectedly develop superpowers and are pursued by a secret organisation who intends to control them.

Supacell features an ensemble cast including; Tosin Cole, Adelayo Adedayo, Josh Tedeku, Nadine Mills, Eric Kofi-Abrefa, Calvin Demba, Ghetts, Digga D, and Eddie Marsan. The series was a difficult sell to US broadcasters such as HBO, ABC, and FX. Netflix took it on in late 2019, ahead of the release of Rapman’s feature-length film debut Blue Story.

As per Variety, news came out that the UK-produced sci-fi series Supacell has been renewed for Season 2 on Netflix. The victory lap was broadcasted by one of the co-stars not long after the streaming giant made their announcement Tuesday, Aug. 13 via social media.

Supacell is about a group of five ordinary people who inadvertently manifest superhuman abilities and have no connection barring that they are from South London and they are Black. They are brought together by teleporting delivery driver Michael Lasaki (Tosin Cole).

Created by Rapman, the sci-fi series held its No.1 spot on Netflix for six consecutive weeks globally following its debut on June 27. When this editorial was published, the series remained on Rotten Tomatoes Certified Fresh at 100% with a 73% Audience Score. Reviews have mostly been positive from Metacritic and the likes of Variety.

The headliners for the 2024 edition of the Glastonbury music festival have been announced, and the names include Dua Lipa, Coldplay and Sza. The iconic British music festival is set to return to Somerset’s Worthy Farm on June 26 and will go on to June 30.

Dua Lipa will make her Pyramid Stage debut as the festival’s Friday night headliner, on a bill also featuring Glastonbury veterans LCD Soundsystem and Pj Harvey, reports ‘Variety’.

The British rock band Coldplay will make their first Pyramid Stage appearance since 2016 on Saturday night, with the only European festival appearance slated for their ongoing world tour.

With the appearance, the group, which previously held the joint headliner record with The Cure, will go one past and become the first act to headline Glastonbury five times.

As per ‘Variety’, Little Simz makes a return to Glastonbury to play the slot immediately before Coldplay.

YouTube Originals is planning to stay focused on the U.K. market for the present and will release documentaries featuring British personalities, bestselling pop star Anne-Marie, music entrepreneur Posty and gamer Behzinga this fall.
