Frozen 2 could have ended up a childhood trauma scar for a generation of kids on the level of Bambi's mom if some key details had stayed in the picture. According to Olaf actor, Josh Gad, his character's death scene in the original script was so brutal, it left kids in the test screenings "fully traumatized." Which is...not exactly what Disney was looking for in the follow-up to the juggernaut first film.
According to Entertainment Weekly, however, that's what they nearly got. In his newly released memoir, In Gad We Trust, the actor explains that in the "truly stunning," "first version [of the death], Olaf himself was scared and confused by what was happening." Their "commitment to the brutality of Olaf's naïveté about all things," he explained, "made our intended audience scared for Olaf, rather than emotional."
Imagine coming in to film Frozen 2 and your first day at work is recording this death scene?...

While many movies focus on a single main character, there have been so many other great releases that have multiple protagonists. Whether it’s two-handers with dual lead roles or an ensemble movie packed with endless character introductions and bit parts, this variety in filmmaking makes for incredibly engaging viewing and allows for a type of storytelling that’s not possible when it’s just focused on one main character. In some cases, it can be difficult for viewers to even agree on who the main character is, as each cast member adds something vital to the narrative.
Many of the best movies ever made featured multiple main characters and had a broad focus across several different subplots. There are plenty of amazing directors, like Quentin Tarantino and Wes Anderson, who have excelled in making great movies that feature lots of main characters who each complement and inform the other.

FX's Grotesquerie has reached a chaotic season 1 finale, setting up a few storylines for season 2. After a late-season twist revealed that Niecy Nash-Betts' Detective Lois Tryon dreamed up the titular serial killer's murder in a nightmare coma sequence, the remaining episodes saw Lois attempting to decipher what her dreams were trying to tell her about the people present in her waking life. The biggest reveal of Grotesquerie's season 1 ending was that Lois' coma culprit was not the real murderer. In her dreams, she envisions that struggling priest Father Charlie Mayhew (Nicholas Alexander Chavez) was the killer, due in part to his repressed sexual desires and misogyny.
In reality, Father Charlie is Dr. Charlie Mayhew, and the very doctor who was responsible for keeping Lois on life support. While he appears suspicious while attending a men's rights group meeting, season one's bloody conclusion reveals that Charlie is actually the second victim,...

[This story contains major spoilers from the season finale of Grotesquerie.]
The plot of Grotesquerie may be more confusing than ever after the season finale’s cliffhanger ending. But one message that’s interwoven into the themes of women’s (and men’s) rights, AI and climate change that are explored in the Ryan Murphy horror series couldn’t be clearer for star Lesley Manville ahead of next week’s presidential election. “Be careful what you vote for,” the British actress tells The Hollywood Reporter of a takeaway for American viewers. “Think very carefully before you put your tick in the ballot box.”
Manville starts out playing Nurse Redd in the FX horror series, later appearing simply as Redd, the lover to Lois’ (Niecy Nash-Betts) husband Marshall (Courtney B. Vance) following the episode seven unveiling that the original characters in the story were projections created by Lois while in a liminal state. Marshall, who was originally thought to be in...

Ryan Murphy, Jon Robin Baitz, and Joe Baken’s Grotesquerie started in a rather unassuming fashion, but it was clear that a palpable darkness was brewing under the surface of its characters and setting, like a gaping chasm to Hell that could swallow the world at any moment. There’s been an emphasis on order ruling over chaos – particularly in the form of jigsaw puzzles – right from Grotesquerie’s first episode. Lois Tryon (Niecy Nash-Betts) and the rest of her family would innocently solve puzzles all season while she simultaneously tries to put together the pieces of a grander serial killer mystery where Lois can’t see the forest for the trees. To Grotesquerie’s credit, it’s a series that’s routinely kept its audience guessing regarding how all these pieces possibly fit together and what the finished picture is supposed to look like. Grotesquerie certainly hasn’t been...

Warning: Major Spoilers ahead for Grotesquerie season 1, episode 10!Grotesquerie star Nicey Nash-Betts has addressed questions about the titular killer's identity while teasing the show's future after season 1's ending. The FX horror mystery has had plenty of turns throughout its story, with Grotesquerie's biggest twist coming in episode 7, when it revealed everything that had happened up until that point was part of Lois' (Nash-Betts) dreams. However, the end of season 1 sees Megan (Micaela Diamond) bring Lois to a crime scene similar to the Last Supper murder in her vision, where Charlie (Nicholas Alexander Chavez) has been crucified like Jesus.
Speaking with TVLine, Nash-Betts explained how mysterious Grotrsquerie still is, with the show's mysteries and the killer's identity still left unsolved. The star hopes for season 2 to unpack the mystery of the murderer, especially after Dr. Witticomb (Santino Fontana) tried indicating the murders were "an amalgamation of all of the evils.

FX's Grotesquerie's episode seven plot twist revealed Detective Lois Tryon (Niecy Nash-Betts) was on life support instead of her husband Marshall (Courtney B. Vance). She is shockingly able to revive, in part because of what the doctors call a "liminal state" instead of a true coma, which few people manage to survive, with some incurring traumatic brain injuries (TBIs). Lois' revival is a major plot twist this late in the show's inaugural season.
As she awakens, Lois is suddenly left to decipher the lengthy nightmare she endured while she was asleep. The nightmare included a series of serial killings committed by the titular Grotesquerie killer, who taunts Lois with biblical references as she investigates the case. The episode 7 twist confirmed that Grotesquerie's first six episodes were all events in Lois' nightmarish state, and not events that occurred in true reality. Following the shock-twist reveal that flipped everything viewers of FX horror series Grotesquerie thought they knew, the eighth and ninth episodes — which aired back to back this week — continued to peel back the layers of the complex world that had been created by Lois Tryon (Niecy Nash-Betts) while she was in a coma and dreaming while in a liminal state. With the introduction of Dr. Witticomb (Santino Fontana), the researcher tells Lois’ daughter Merritt (Raven Goodwin), “If we can advance the science of communicating with people in comas, my hope is we can find ways to awaken them.”
As Dr. Whitcomb talks Lois through the various alter-egos she created for the people in her real life, an unexpected new character appears to be awakened, however, in the form of a copycat killer recreating the murders Lois recalls from her dreams. FX's Grotesquerie continues to blur the binaries of dreams and reality after its major episode 7 plot twist revealed that Detective Lois Tryon (Niecy Nash-Betts) was in a coma instead of her husband. Though it’s something of a backhanded paean to its eponymous city in question, the most enjoyable element to “Lost & Found in Cleveland” is its locations, locations, locations — cinematographer Davon Slininger’s widescreen images provide an appealing selective tour of a burg the film presents as quaintly lagging well behind the times. Otherwise, this slick if uninspired first feature for actors turned writer-directors Marisa Guterman and Keith Gerchak offers a pleasant-enough ensemble seriocomedy that straddles the terrains of Richard Curtis and Christopher Guest, without approaching either’s high points. The Newport Beach Fest world premiere’s familiar faces and story beats seem best suited to home viewing.
An opening montage to the retro pop of Bobby Darin singing “Artificial Flowers” — an incongruously brassy, “Mack the Knife”-like arrangement of a depressing slum-tragedy lyric from 1960 Broadway musical “Tenderloin” — introduces the characters, as well as a sense that this midwestern metropolis’ growth stalled some decades ago.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend started off as a fun musical, with a lot to say about mental health. Never preachy and always producing catchy songs, episode after episode, the shows best came from one particular character Greg. Initially played by Santino Fontana, Greg Serrano was the perfect foil for main character Rebecca Bunch (Rachel Bloom), and mirrored her in his own struggles with mental health. After Fontana left the show early in the second season, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend lost its anchor from a talent and narrative perspective.

If Disney decides to ever make a live-action Frozen movie, Kristen Bell knows who should play Anna. The actor, who voices the Disney princess in the animated Frozen movies, recently shared who she thinks would be perfect for the role in a live-action remake of the original 2013 movie.
While sitting down with Elle to promote her latest project, Nobody Wants This, with co-star Adam Brody, Bell was asked who she'd want to see play Anna in a live-action Frozen remake. "In the live-action?" Bell pondered, taking a moment to think about all the age-appropriate actors currently working in Hollywood. Eventually, she landed on one name, "Joey King," who is perhaps best known for leading Netflix's The Kissing Booth film trilogy. Her acting credits also include The Dark Knight Rises (2012), The Conjuring (2013), Independence Day: Resurgence (2016), Bullet Train (2022), and, most recently, A Family Affair (2024) and Despicable Me 4 (2024).

Frozen became a hit for Disney with critically acclaimed songs, with the film taking an arguably unconventional approach to the cast members who actually sing the movies' tracks. Following the first movie's release in 2013, Frozen and Frozen II broke box office records and garnered various awards wins and nominations for their compelling narratives and original music a trend that Disney's Frozen 3 is expected to continue. Still renowned for its catchy soundtrack a decade later, the release of Frozen saw its number-one song, Let It Go!, skyrocket on the charts as well.
Let It Go! won both an Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2014 and a Grammy for Best Song Written for Visual Media. Tthe Frozen soundtrack won an Academy Award for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media and had a second nomination. It was not just the music that made Frozen so beloved, but its killer cast and the dynamic characters they played.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga star Anya Taylor-Joy really wants to play Elsa in a live-action Frozen movie, if for nothing more than to impress her nieces and nephews. Released in 2013, Disneys Frozen became a widely successful hit that grossed more than $1.2 billion dollars at the box office, and became the nightmare of parents everywhere thanks to kids that couldnt stop listening to its hit song, "Let It Go." Its 2019 follow-up, Frozen II, proved even more successful than the first, grossing upwards of $1.4 billion, proving that theres still a ravenous audience for the Disney series.
Speaking with Vogue Hong Kong (via Deadline), Taylor-Joy expressed enthusiasm about the possibility of portraying a real-life Elsa. While nothing has been officially announced by Disney, a Frozen live-action remake is not beyond the realm of possibility, as the company has regularly been releasing new versions of some of its most popular animated hits.

During D23, Disney's ultimate fan expo, a panel revealed some key details about Frozen 3, suggesting that one of the most popular fan theories about Elsa's power may be officially debunked in the third Frozen movie. When the first film premiered in 2013, not even Disney could have predicted Frozen's meteoric success. Loosely based on Hans Christian Andersen's 1844 fairy tale "The Snow Queen," Frozen centers on sisters Elsa (Idina Menzel) and Anna (Kristen Bell). Although the sisters start off as close-knit, an accident with Elsa's ice powers prompts the girls' parents to separate them by isolating Elsa.
Years later, after their parents go missing at sea, Elsa's coronation nears. During the events of 2013's Frozen, Elsa learns to embrace her true self including the good and bad that come with her ice abilities and the sisters reconnect. In the 2019 sequel, Frozen 2, the sisters travel to an enchanted forest...

Disney princesses like Elsa and Anna face mature problems despite being young teens. Elsa was 21 in Frozen, with age becoming more aligned with responsibilities in sequels. Disney has addressed issues with underage Disney princess ages through live-action remakes.
Disney princesses, including Frozen's Elsa and Anna, get involved in all types of dangerous situations despite how old many of them are, and the Disney princess ages might surprise many audience members. Many of the problems these princesses face are also very mature, relating to powerful magic and vengeful villains, and they often end up marrying a prince or ruling a country by the movie's end. Most of the princesses in Disney's most famous stories are actually rather young, still teenagers when their adventures take place.

For what it feels like the first time in forever, Disney is pulling all the strings to beat all the records possible. Armed with many exciting updates for its upcoming projects, Frozen III also got the first look at the concept art.
Frozen is one of Disney's most popular animated franchises ever. It's also incredibly bankable, as it grossed $2.76 billion at the worldwide box office, and won two Academy Awards. The first film premiered in 2013 with its sequel following six years later, in 2019, becoming the highest-grossing animation of all time, with $1.45 billion. That record was broken this year with Inside Out 2, but luckily Disney confirmed Frozen III is happening, giving it a chance to win back its title. On top of that, it's keeping fans invested as it revealed the concept art for the upcoming threequel at D23.

After this week’s Evil, The Manager won’t have Leland Townsend to kick around anymore. And that’s because Leland framed him, poisoned him, stabbed him and then ate his heart during a shareholder presentation. How’s that for a corporate shake-up?
Episode 9 marks a definite escalation in Leland’s diabolical minion-ship, which I’m guessing will be very bad news for #TeamGood in the near future. But at the moment, they’re preoccupied by talking to dead people and making tinfoil hats. True story.

The original opening of Frozen featured Elsa being left at the altar, leading her to freeze her heart and become a villain. In the original concept, Elsa and Anna were not related, and Anna would have been a villager trying to show kindness to the bitter queen. The sisterly relationship between Elsa and Anna is what gives Frozen its heart and contributes to its massive success.
The original opening of Frozen would have resulted in a very different life for Elsa. The 2013 animated Disney movie was originally inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's The Snow Queen and proved to be an Academy Award-winning production. With a budget of approximately $150 million, Frozen brought in over $1.3 billion at the box office. It was so successful that it spawned a sequel, multiple short films, two musicals, a play and an in-development threequel.

It’s been virtually 100 years to the day since Walt Disney’s animated mouse took the wheel of a steamship and steered himself into immortality. But for anyone who grew up watching Disney movies that might seem surprisingly recent. Since near its very inception, Walt Disney Animation Studios has evoked a timeless sensibility which seems eternal and everlasting. With likely your parents and grandparents growing up on Disney movies, the studio’s brand of hand-drawn magic has always been there in the background of living memory. But every magic has its dark side… and the shadows cast by the House of Mouse have always been faintly more sinister than parents remember until they put a little one in front of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs or Fantasia. You show a child Chernabog for the first time, and I’ll show you a week of nightmares.

It's tough to think of the Netflix fantasy series "The Witcher," based on the novels by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, without Henry Cavill at its center as Geralt of Rivia. He brought passion to the project as a massive fan of the novels and video games that already exist in the franchise, and he made Geralt a truly three-dimensional character with pathos. Even skeptical fans who thought the casting was a bit odd (I was holding out for Mads Mikkelsen) found themselves won over by Cavill's performance, impressed at the range he showed after gaining fame as Superman. Unfortunately, "The Witcher" will be going on without Cavill after the third season, with actor Liam Hemsworth stepping into his leather boots and silver wig for the show's fourth season.
There has been quite a bit of discussion around why Cavill decided to leave, ranging from potential creative conflicts with the "Witcher...

Should Disney ever pursue Frozen 3 (and they most likely will), Prince Hans of the Southern Isles should definitely return to the franchise and stir some trouble for Anna, Elsa, and the rest of the gang. Serving the greatest plot twist in 2013’s Frozen, Prince Hans (Santino Fontana) drastically shifted from the charming prince to the power-grabbing thirteenth son looking to marry into Arendelle’s royal family. Despite being a great villain to further explore, Hans has since been demoted to the sidelines; last seen in the Frozen Forever short film and only alluded to in Frozen 2.
While Frozen 2 succeeded commercially, its unconventional storyline has created two blatant franchise problems that need to be addressed in a third feature installment; specifically Anna playing second fiddle to Elsa and Frozen 2 having had no villain to fight. Although Prince Hans’ absence didn’t really affect the main narrative of Frozen 2,...

While Disney’s Frozen does not explore much of Prince Hans’ (Santino Fontana) backstory before the film's events, there is an attempt to redeem him retroactively by portraying a complicated past. Fleshing out a villain’s backstory to make them more sympathetic might seem unnecessary for some antagonists, but Prince Hans isn't a typical Disney villain. In this case, his backstory only further shows how he is a subversion of his character type, adding context and nuance to his motives.
Since his debut in Frozen, Prince Hans has appeared in the novels A Frozen Heart and Conceal, Don’t Feel (A Twisted Tale), the former of which explores Hans’ backstory in detail. He also features in other media, including the short film Frozen Fever, in which the punishment for Hans' Disney villain actions is illustrated. “That’s why it’s a real New York story. Skeptic from the start,” Krysta Rodriguez says of her new Hallmark Channel romantic comedy. In Just One Kiss (premiering April 2), Rodriguez plays Mia, a college literature professor who is a single mom going through a divorce when she meets bachelor Tony (Santino Fontana), a popular headliner in a Manhattan supper club. She read the script, and “I just was smiling the whole time. I really enjoyed myself,” Rodriguez tells TV Insider. “I thought that this woman that they had created had real stakes. It didn’t feel forced, and I really liked that she was living a life that was sort of in flux and she had to kind of find her way through that life.” Furthermore, with two Broadway stars as the leads, it’s no surprise that there’s singing for both of them — but that wasn’t originally the plan.

There has to be some confusion in a TV drama, a procession of things not-yet-understood. That’s the deal: accept temporary bafflement in the expectation that at some point, all will be revealed. Or even if it won’t be, at least there’s a reason it’s been left unsolved, like a Sudoku you’ve got jam on.
What doesn’t work is when a TV show that’s supposed to be taking you along with it, leaves you behind. That could be your fault (Did you stay awake? Skip an episode? Were you checking your phone? Was your dog doing that weird thing with the curtains so you had to get up and miss a bit?). Or it could be the fault of a TV show either too ambitious or inaccessible or illogical for comfort. We’ve chosen the episodes that left us scratching our heads; you can judge who’s to blame.
