As Byron Allen’s “Comics Unleashed With Byron Allen” is set to tape more than 130 episodes ahead of its late night debut on CBS.

As TheWrap previously reported, “Comics Unleashed” will be taking over the 12:30 a.m. time slot from “After Midnight.” Allen plans on filming 132 episodes of the comedy talk show, which is produced under Allen’s Entertainment Studios banner.

The series, which is heading into its 20th season, will officially air at 12:37 a.m. Et on Sept. 22 with back-to-back half-hour episodes. Episodes of the comedy talk show will then air Monday through Friday, with the series also available to stream live on Paramount+ for subscribers that have Paramount+ with Showtime.

Ben Stiller’s All-Star Comedy Roundtable Celebrates 30th Nantucket Film Festival
Image
Ben Stiller is not a standup comedian — and that’s Ok.

At the 30th annual Nantucket Film Festival, Stiller assembled a group of comedy all-stars, as he has for the years, to discuss their journeys and share career insights while cracking up the auditorium audience.

This year, Stiller shared that he was “dead set against” a comedy career because it’s what his parents did, and an early attempt at standup in his teens pretty much killed that particular interest. The bit focused on New York City’s alternate side parking policy, and he even performed a version for festival-goers and his fellow panelists.

Obviously, comedy found its way to Stiller one way or another, but not on the path taken by the panel’s improvisers Amber Ruffin and Zach Cherry, or standups Iliza Shlesinger, Michael Ian Black, and Mae Martin. Shlesinger was working a desk job and asked her...

Lisa Ann Walter and Iliza Shlesinger Agree ‘It’s an Incredible Time to Be Funny’ Because Anything Goes | Video
Image
“It think it’s an incredible time to be funny,” “Abbott Elementary” star Lisa Ann Walter said at the TheWrap’s “Keeping it Fresh: Careers That Keep Evolving” panel as part of the inaugural Women of Comedy Emmy Showcase.

“And it doesn’t matter the age,” she continued. “I came into this town to star in my own TV shows, and if those had gone and I had been a big star, I would have died in a drunken car wreck somewhere for real. So having had all this time in between to do a number of different jobs and raise my children and come into a show as a woman of my age, and owning my talent and my power is incredible for me.”

Joined by fellow Emmy contenders Iliza Shlesinger (“Iliza Shlesinger: A Different Animal”), Sasheer Zamata (“Agatha All Along”), Julianne Nicholson (“Hacks”) and Bridget Everett (“Somebody Somewhere...

Iliza Shlesinger Talks Prime Video’s ‘A Different Animal’ And Opportunity A New Comedy Special Presents “To Be As Big As You Are In Your Dreams”
Image
For comedian Iliza Shlesinger, crafting a special is an intensive and lengthy process with one clear apex: the taping. Everything leads up to those one or two days of shooting. And this, she says, is the hardest part.

“You sort of don’t know” when a joke, or a new hour is done, Shlesinger admits during a sit-down chat for Deadline Studio at Prime Experience. But “you have to tape it at some point. … And then the heartbreaking part is the next week when you go on tour, or continue your tour, you find all of these things you should’ve said. It’s almost like you have to tape an hour to know how much better your hour could be.”

Watch the conversation in the video below, and scroll down for photos from the event.

Continues Shlesinger, “I truly believe that stand-up — and I hate that I’m saying...

Iliza Shlesinger’s comedy evolution: ‘You don’t want to be 42 telling the same jokes you told at 22’
Image
Iliza Shlesinger broke into the comedy world in her early 20s with razor-sharp observations about dating, singlehood, and the absurdities of modern womanhood. Her unapologetic style and knack for storytelling quickly earned her a loyal fanbase and a string of hit specials on Netflix. Now, at 42 and a mother of two, Shlesinger is entering a new phase — both onstage and off.

Her latest stand-up special, A Different Animal, marks her debut on Prime Video and a fresh chapter in a career that’s spanned nearly two decades. Shlesinger says her voice has evolved with time, shaped by life experience and motherhood.

Below, she reflects on the evolution of her comedy, the responsibility she feels to her audience, and why she believes her latest work is her most polished yet.

CBS Fills ‘After Midnight’ Slot With ‘Comics Unleashed With Byron Allen’
Image
CBS is betting on another show to fill the gap left by “The Late Late Show With James Corden.” Starting in September, “Comics Unleashed With Byron Allen” will take over the 12:30 a.m. slot from “After Midnight.”

The series will officially air at 12:37 a.m. Et on Sept. 22 with back-to-back, half-hour episodes. Episodes of the comedy talk show will then air Monday through Friday, with the series also available to stream live on Paramount+ for subscribers that have Paramount+ with Showtime.

For decades, CBS had a pretty solid late night formula. “The Late Show” at 11:30 p.m. was followed by “The Late Late Show” an hour later. But when Corden announced he was stepping away from the franchise to spend more time with his family, the network announced it was ending the show that had been on the air since 1995. “The Late Late Show” officially ended in...

Iliza Shlesinger Talks Empowering Women With Her Special ‘A Different Animal’ In Role As “Unaccredited Sociologist” – Contenders TV: Documentary, Unscripted & Variety
Image
While the themes in her comedy specials are most clearly understood in retrospect and only emerge over time, Iliza Shlesinger finds that her preoccupation in new hour Iliza Shlesinger: A Different Animal has to do with “empowering women,” something she’s found herself focusing on consistently in recent years.

“It’s always about revealing why we do the things that we do — I think of myself as an unaccredited sociologist,” Shlesinger said during a virtual panel for Deadline’s Contenders Television: Documentary, Unscripted & Variety.

The intention with her act, she shared, is also to stand up for her generation, in particular — “for the things that we are, be it a mom, a woman, a millennial. Sort of giving voice to a perspective and to a people, kind of always coming from an underdog position.”

Iliza Shlesinger Might Not Want ‘Girls’ to Stop Saying ‘Patriarchy’ If She Had A Better Handle on What It Is
Image
In her new stand-up special, A Different Animal, Iliza Shlesinger establishes early whom her two main beefs are with. She thinks zoomers are too mean to millennials, who have all the same complaints about society, plus back pain and heartburn. And she thinks men are clowns for illustrating their dating profiles with photos of themselves holding fish; forming intense opinions about Viking fan art; and lecturing captive audiences about the films of Christopher Nolan. The kicker in her list of things only men do: “Maybe being a piece of shit your whole life, finding out you’re having a baby and that it’s a girl, and then and Only then realizing women are people too.”

It’s an easy applause line for a crowd that’s apparently primed for the kind of humor normally reserved for the sassy wives of clueless husbands in paper-towel commercials. But if Shlesinger’s...

Bianca Censori Is Hotter Than Kim Kardashian: Joe Rogan Talks About Kanye West’s 2nd Marriage

Bianca Censori is following Kim Kardashian’s lead to split from Kanye West. However, can she truly match up to Ye’s ex? Well, Joe Rogan and his friends at least seem to think so.

If anything, according to the podcast host, Censori might be way ahead of Kardashian in one specific aspect. That is, most of them seem to believe Bianca Censori is far hotter than Kim K. Moreover, they also have a particular reason behind thinking so.

What makes this entire situation interesting is the fact that Joe Rogan has also been vocal about his stance on the Skims owner and her family in the past. Which, to be honest, doesn’t paint them in a good light.

Let us put our hands together and bow our heads in silence as we reflect on the news that The Righteous Gemstones will end with Season 4 at HBO. The campaign aims to highlight both the joy and resilience that have sustained the Jewish people for thousands of years.

Watch it below:

Gadot follows a number of other stars who have already celebrated the holiday this year with Tishby. The series kicked off with Gwyneth Paltrow lighting the menorah on the first night of Hanukkah, before Mila Kunis, Mayim Bialik, Iliza Shlesinger, Van Jones, Cindy Crawford, and Tiffany Haddish followed suit on the following six nights.

Tishby bonded with Gadot and her husband, Jaron Varsano, over the different ways in which they celebrate Hanukkah now in the States compared to how they did previously in Israel, Gadot’s homeland.

For 10 seasons and 106 episodes, Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr. has been helping people explore their family history on “Finding Your Roots With Henry Louis Gates, Jr.,” the PBS series that has delved into the often tangled family trees of almost 250 people. The program is the only PBS series to have experienced a growth in linear ratings over the last three years, it’s the network’s top-rated regularly scheduled program — and now, for Season 10, it is finally an Emmy nominee in the Outstanding Hosted Nonfiction Series or Special category.

“I am deeply humbled by the nomination, and I never dreamed we would get it,” said Gates, a Harvard professor of African American Studies who co-created the show and has hosted it for its entire run. He got the news in a hotel room in Las Vegas, where he’d gone to receive the Spingarn Medal, the NAACP’s highest honor for achievements by Black Americans.

Jim Gaffigan, Jenny Slate & Tig Notaro Talk Parenthood & The Best And Worst Things About Being A Comedian Today
Image
For Jenny Slate, there’s much to love about working as a stand-up comic today.

“We have the opportunity to be really thoughtful about saying something deeply important about our own personal development, about the world at large, about current events, about censorship in art, about what is the current vernacular in art,” the comedian says.

Certainly, she acknowledges, “cancel culture is frightening,” and it’s always “scary to be a person with a microphone, [but] it’s also a great privilege. If you’re a performer and you feel that you’re talented, if you pair that talent with thoughtfulness, I think [it’s a] great opportunity to feel fully expressed.”

On Monday night, Slate was at Deadline’s Studio at the Prime Experience to promote her latest special Seasoned Professional, which debuted on Prime Video on February 23. Also appearing for solo interviews were comedians Tig Notaro and Jim Gaffigan, who while discussing...

Julianna Margulies, Greg Berlanti, Mayim Bialik Among 260 Signatories of Letter to Film Academy Critiquing Jewish Exclusion from Diversity Standards
Image
Amid Israel’s ongoing war with Hamas, Jewish entertainment figures have come together to issue an open letter to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences criticizing their exclusion from being specified as an underrepresented group.

“An inclusion effort that excludes Jews is both steeped in and misunderstands antisemitism,” reads the letter, organized by the group Jew in the City’s Hollywood Bureau for Jewish Representation. “Jewish people being excluded from the Motion Picture Academy’s Representation and Inclusion Standards is discriminating against a protected class by invalidating their historic and genetic identity.”

The Academy’s standards, unveiled in 2020 as part of its Aperture 2025 diversity initiative, describes a number of identities that it considers “underrepresented groups”: women, LGBTQ+, having cognitive or physical difficulties or being deaf or hard of hearing, as well as underrepresented racial or ethnic groups. 10 Netflix Shows We Suspect Have Been Ghost Canceled
Image
Picture: Netflix / 20th Television

A New Year is just around the corner, and Netflix’s upcoming roster of Original titles includes over 100 returning shows that will be back for new seasons. Some Netflix shows remain unclear on whether they’ll ever return, and in the case of the below, we suspect they’ve all been quietly canceled.

For these shows, we refer to them as ghost canceled. This means they’ve been effectively canceled behind the scenes but haven’t been publicly announced. These announcements are either because Netflix won’t confirm or nobody behind the show publicly announced the cancelation.

As always, cancelations are due to a number of reasons. With a few of these, it’ll be purely down to the length of time since the last season premiered, and then you’ve got the usual issues of performance.

You can find our expanded full list of shows...
