Attacked and beaten by a hooded assailant after seeing her gynaecologist, pregnant Esther seeks consolation in a support group where she meets Melanie, a mother who lost a child. But nothing is as it appears in Proxy, because one of these damaged women is a psychodrama queen, the other seriously deranged. However, which one is which and where to draw the line?

And that’s the central, rather twisted premise of a film which actually reminded me a lot of the Frightfest 2012 film Crawl, in so much as it which builds situation upon situation, ever increasing the sense of dread until pervades every inch of the film – so much so that even the moments of quietness feel too quiet and you end up expecting something...

When committing crimes, you automatically resign yourself to the fact that when things go wrong, the consequences can be deadly. Luckily for us, in the new film Dead Draw, said consequences are just that and more. Read on for details.

Gil Bellows (pictured; Shawshank Redemption, "Ally McBeal"), Bitsie Tulloch (The Artist, "Grimm"), and Michael Eklund (Watchmen, The Call) have signed on to star in the upcoming indie crime-thriller Dead Draw.

Written and directed by Brian Klemesrud, the film is being produced by Klemesrud’s Rocket3 Productions, and Faust Checho’s (Proxy, The Fields) Fsc Productions. Klemesrud has served as creative director on over 200 commercials and director on over a dozen shorts. This will be his feature directorial debut. Seasoned cinematographer Jim Timperman (Proxy, Scalene, Mr. Blue Sky) has signed on as Dp for the film.

We have news of another Tiff horror acquisition. IFC announced that they have acquired North American distribution rights to Proxy and will release it under their IFC Midnight label:

IFC Midnight has acquired North American rights to “Proxy,” writer-director Zack Parker’s thriller that premiered in the Vanguard section of the Toronto Film Festival, the distributor announced Wednesday. A day-and-date theatrical/VOD release is planned for the story of a pregnant woman who’s attacked by a hooded assailant and seeks consolation in a support group, where she begins to realize that no one in her life is as they seem. Back in June we got word that Zack Parker had begun working on the European-style suspense-thriller Proxy, and today he sent over the first batch of stills from the upcoming film.

Synopsis:

Directed by Zack Parker, Proxy stars Alexia Rasmussen, Alexa Havins, Kristina Klebe, and Joe Swanberg. The screenplay was penned by Parker and Kevin Donner and is being produced by Parker’s Along the Tracks Productions and Faust Checho’s Fsc Productions.

A very pregnant Esther Woodhouse (Rasmussen) is walking home after her latest Ob appointment, when she is brutally attacked and disfigured by a hooded assailant. When Esther seeks consolation in a support group, she finds friendship and empathy in Melanie (Havins), another mother scarred with tragedy. Esther soon begins to believe that the horrific event might be a bittersweet act of fate. However, friendship and empathy can be very dangerous things when accepted by the wrong people.

In anticipation of the November 27th Blu-ray/DVD release of 6 Degrees of Hell (review here), the film will be having its Los Angeles premiere a week earlier on the 20th with star Corey Feldman and writer/producer B.H. Smith in attendance.

The screening will include a Q&A following the film and a horror trivia game with such prizes as signed scripts, posters, and movie packs. It all happens at the Laemmle Music Hall, 9036 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, CA. Click here for tickets.

Horror films and films in general have been set in cornfields for generations. From the original Children of the Corn (1984) to Jeepers Creepers II (2003) and more recently in The Maze (2011), cornfields can fill the viewer with dread. It's been a while since we've had any sort of update on the Tara Reid/Cloris Leachman (now there's a dream team if we ever saw one) flick The Fields, but today the filmmakers announced the launch of a Street Team utilizing the film’s network of loyal Facebook fans to promote the film and raise awareness worldwide.

Basically, they're trying to get 100,000 people to "like" them on Facebook, and if you help them, you will get to watch exclusive behind-the-scenes videos, receive special video messages from the cast and crew, and if the goal is reached, you'll get an on-screen credit! Driving down a winding road in the middle of nowhere Pennsylvania, the car rounds a turn, climbing higher into the mountains. Perched on the side of a steep hill is an old farmhouse with peeling gray paint and gaping windows, surrounded by fields of dry and rustling corn. The front lawn slopes dangerously down and then sprawls out into an honest-to-god pumpkin patch. This is where the cast and crew for upcoming indie thriller The Fields are shooting today.

When we arrive, they are filming a scene in the pumpkin patch with Bev Appleton and Joshua Ormond. It’s October, and in the mountains of Pennsylvania the air is beyond chilly. A Pa wraps Josh, who plays Steven, in a thick coat between takes to keep him warm. Josh jumps up and down as he and his co-star make faces at each other as they wait for directors Tom Mattera...

You've got to admire the filmmaking team behind The Fields for one thing: casting Tara Reid in their movie and expecting us to take it seriously. Okay, low blow and a cheap shot at the low budget horror production, but I couldn't resist. Today they've uploaded some pics straight from production and we've got them for you!

In any event the teaser poster for the flick surfaced online today, and eagle-eyed reader Joey Monda was quick to bring it to our attention. It's rumored that Joey has a strange crush on Reid (especially when she plays a scientist) and that's why he's been keeping tabs on things so closely.
