1923 continues to push forward and closer toward the climactic ending between The Duttons, Donald Whitfield, and Banner Creighton. While Episode 5 was absent of the majority of the Duttons, the story still felt focused and like it was pushing towards a common goal. The episode was once again carried on the back of Julia Schlaepfer's Alexandra Dutton in another deeply emotional story. Spencer is one of the only other Duttons in the episode, which left the other part of the episode looking at Teonna Rainwater as she races for her life against Father Renaud and Marshal Kent.
