Hannah Waddingham and Keira Knightley together in a psychological thriller? Sign me up! Both of them will star in Netflix’s The Woman in Cabin 10. The upcoming film is directed by Simon Stone and is based on Ruth Ware’s bestselling 2016 novel of the same name. The film is about a journalist who watches someone get thrown overboard a luxury yacht. However, she is told that nothing happened and that all the crew and passengers are accounted for.
Even though no one believes her, she puts her life in danger to uncover the truth. Having Knightley and Waddingham in it will surely infuse the suspense-filled narrative with powerful female leads who can give the characters the gravitas and range they require. Waddingham broke out as a powerhouse performer after holding her own as Rebecca Welton opposite Ted Lasso co-stars Jason Sudeikis and Brett Goldstein.

Last year, we learned that the Netflix streaming service had gotten a new film chief in Dan Lin – and one of the first projects Lin greenlit at the streamer is an adaptation of author Ruth Ware’s bestselling 2016 thriller novel The Woman in Cabin 10, which had Keira Knightley attached to star in it as the titular woman. Now, Netflix has announced that the film is set to have its streaming premiere on October 10th – and to start building the hype, they have unveiled a batch of first look images, which can be seen at the bottom of this article.
Simon Stone, who previously directed The Dig for Netflix, directed this film from a screenplay by Snake Eyes writers Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse (with Stone handling script revisions himself). “I’ve said in acknowledgements before that it takes a village to make a book, but what I learned going on set for Cabin 10 is that it takes a whole town to make a film – it’s truly amazing seeing so many people working so hard on something you created,” said Ruth Ware.

Both a bold historical drama and a penetrating psychological study of a delusional authoritarian, “Quisling: The Final Days” is perhaps the strongest work yet from veteran Norwegian helmer Erik Poppe. It serves as a bookend of sorts to “The King’s Choice,” his 2016 hit, which dealt with the first three days of Germany’s invasion of Norway in 1940. Set five years later, “Quisling” revisits the period of occupation and its aftermath through the story of Vidkun Quisling (Gard B. Eidsvold), the wartime puppet head of government who collaborated with the Nazis, whose surname is now synonymous with the word traitor.
In a fresh and provocative approach to the titular subject matter, Poppe and his screenwriters view it through the lens of Quisling’s prison meetings with pastor Peder Olsen, whose mission from Oslo’s bishop is to lead Quisling toward contrition and absolution. Their conversations, noted in Olsen’s previously unknown diary of the time,...

One of Norway’s biggest export names, whose credits include Juliette Binoche starrer “1,000 Times Good Night” and Golden Bear nominee “Utøya- July 22,” director Erik Poppe will kick off the Norwegian Film Festival in Haugesund on Aug. 18, with his much-anticipated drama “Quisling – The Final Days,” ahead of the film’s international premiere at Toronto’s Special Presentations.
Although set in Norway during WWII, the film explores today’s pressing issue of the rise of right wing extremism and its threat to democracy.
It centres on the last days before his execution on Oct. 24, 1945, of the infamous Nazi collaborator Vidkun Quisling, whose name has become a byword for traitor. As Quisling sits in his dark cell, he receives the visit of the priest Peder Olsen. Their encounters – documented in a diary written by Olsen that served as a key source for the script – turn into a psychological battle between the humanist and the fascist.

The Brendan Fraser series Professionals is not moving forward at The CW. The series, which premiered season 1 in 2022, was created by Michael Colleary and Jeff Most. A spinoff of the movie Soldiers of Fortune, it followed a former counterintelligence officer who is called in to help a scientist couple following the destruction of their medical satellite. In addition to Fraser, the series starred Elena Anaya, Ken Duken, Lisa Loven Kongsli, and Smallville's Tom Welling.
Per TVLine, Professionals has officially joined the roster of recently canceled CW series. Jeff Most promises that the team is "shopping the second season" elsewhere. However, even if the show does return, it was never part of the plan for Fraser to reprise his role in season 2, though other cast members could return. Read Most's statement below:

Anna Sofie Hartmann’s debut feature (produced by Toni Erdmann director Maren Ade) starts out with three giraffes (giraffes have a cinematic moment right now - see David Fincher’s Mank), one of them chewing languidly, and staring right into the camera (cinematography by Jenny Lou Ziegel). The animals will not appear again. This is not their story, but that of a human transplant, ethnologist Dara (Lisa Loven Kongsli of Ruben Östlund’s Force Majeure and Tamara Jenkins’ Wonder Woman). She takes a temporary job on the Danish island of Lolland, where she collects for the local museum interviews and objects that will archive the drastic transitions about to take place with the building of a tunnel connecting Denmark and Germany.

Like Jia Zhangke’s Still Life, Giraffe is a fiction sketched around the margins of an infrastructure project, capturing impressions of life and landscape in a place across which the state will soon sweep like a hand across a countertop. Instead of Still Life’s Three Gorges Dam, which juxtaposed the epic scope of the Ccp’s ambition against the worker ants carrying the project out or being washed away in its wake, Giraffe’s Danish director Anna Sofie Hartmann tells a prototypical EU story of technocratic consensus and its faint, localized counterweight of regret over dying tradition.

Brendan Fraser Actioner ‘Professionals’ Finds Global Distribution With Rainmaker Content (Exclusive)
Rainmaker Content has picked up worldwide distribution rights from German studio Leonine for Brendan Fraser-starring action series “Professionals.” The project, which was completed during the global pandemic, will be shopped to buyers at next month’s virtual Mipcom market.
Commissioned by Nordic Entertainment Group (Nent Group) for streamer Viaplay, the cast includes Fraser (“Trust”), Tom Welling (“Smallville”), Elena Anaya (“Wonder Woman”), Saïd Taghmaoui (“John Wick 3”), Ken Duken (“Inglorious Basterd”), Lisa Loven Kongsli (“Force Majeure”) and August Wittgenstein (“The Crown”).
The 10-part series stars Welling as hardened former counterintelligence officer Captain Vincent Corbo, who is hired by billionaire futurist Peter Swann (Fraser) and his fiancée, medical visionary Dr. Graciela “Grace” Davila (Anaya), to investigate the explosion of an advanced medical satellite. What Corbo and his team discover, however, is that a combination of Swann’s business rivals, corrupt government officials and a shadowy crime syndicate could be behind the attack.

Exclusive: German major Leonine is extending its long-term partnership with Los Angeles-based industry vet Thomas Augsberger and his Eden Rock Media banner via a multi-year consulting deal.
Eden Rock Media will continue to advise Leonine on licensing U.S.-produced features and series for German-speaking territories and continue to work on third-party TV acquisitions for Leonine’s English-language international sales division.
The new agreement is the latest iteration of Augsberger’s 22-year partnership with the media company that initially began with Tmg, which was acquired by Kkr-backed Leonine two years ago.
Starting in Cannes 2019, Augsberger worked with Leonine’s CEO Fred Kogel, COO Dr. Markus Frerker and SVP Acquisitions Alexander Janssen to establish the distributor as a major European buyer. The inciting incident of Downhill takes place on the deck of a ski resort in the Alps. In the midst of lunch, a family of four watches a controlled avalanche tumble towards the outdoor restaurant where they’re eating. It continues growing in size and severity, and those around them begin panicking and ducking for cover. The family’s father follows suit, grabbing his phone off the table and running for safety, leaving his wife and two sons to withstand the arctic blast. The quick whiteout ends up being a false alarm, but the real damage has just begun.

When visiting zoos and wildlife sanctuaries, we don’t find it strange to come across animals far removed from their native lands: lemurs in the Bronx, penguins in Rome, bonobos in Berlin. In our increasingly globalized society, the same can be said for our fellow humans, who don’t necessarily seem out of place, no matter how diverse their backgrounds — even though moving to another part of one’s own country can still seem foreign.
Anna Sofie Hartmann’s ruminative film “Giraffe” poignantly explores that feeling of place and belonging, together with the evanescence of our impact on those who follow us. It’s a film of big themes on an intimate scale that lovingly acknowledges the unimaginable wealth of stories inside everyone we encounter, while also looking at how we negotiate the place of memory in our lives. There are no giraffes in Scandinavia. Right? Wrong. Anna Sofie Hartman opens her second feature with two of the animals looking directly into the camera, towering above a forest of evergreen firs. Dara (Lisa Loven Kongsli) is photographer and ethnologist researching the transformation of the landscape before it is carved up by a large construction project. A major tunnel will be built to connect Denmark and Germany, and before that happens Dara scours the topography, documenting its memories contained in objects, letters, diary entries. One couple threatened with expropriation fill their house with small collections. In the second shot of the film they sit below a small framed image of a giraffe during an interview with Dara. It presides over conversations about their imminent geographical and emotional upheaval. Giraffes never appear again, not explicitly at least. Yet, the film is punctuated by unexpected encounters only a truly globalized world could produce.

The skiing trip just got a little busier. Deadline reports that Will Ferrell is joining Julia Louis-Dreyfus in “Downhill,” the English-language remake of Ruben Östlund’s acclaimed “Force Majeure.” Nat Faxon and Jim Rash, who helmed “The Way Way Back” and won an Oscar for co-writing Alexander Payne’s “The Descendants,” are directing for Fox Searchlight.
Johannes Kuhnke, Lisa Loven Kongsli, and Kristofer Hivju co-starred in the original, which won the Un Certain Regard Jury Prize and earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Foreign-Language Film; Östlund’s follow-up, “The Square,” won the Palme d’Or last year.
“Obviously, Searchlight is like family at this point. We’re honored to be working with them for a third time. But, to also have our paths cross with Julia, and a fellow Groundling alum in Will, makes this all the more special and exciting for us,” Faxon and Rash said in a statement Deadline.

Following her scene-stealing appearance in Batman v Superman, Wonder Woman finally gets her own movie. Yes, she brought the Junkie Xl theme with her, the whole thing revolves around the silly Dawn of Justice, and there’s an obscene amount of speed-ramping, but bear with it, because Wonder Woman is actually, refreshingly, breathtakingly good.
With a few additions, this origin tale tells the story of Wonder Woman as the comic book literate would recognise it: moulded from clay and raised as an Amazon warrior on the all-female island of Themyscira, Diana – daughter of Queen Hippolyta and King of the Gods Zeus – travels to the world of mortals...
