Before Captain America: Brave New World, Anthony Mackie battled monsters in the post-apocalyptic film Elevation, which was released in select theaters in 2024. Although critics dismissed the film as another War of the Words knockoff, audiences have grown fond of it, as evidenced by its fresh audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. But now more people can discover the underrated sci-fi flick as it arrives on a new streaming home this month.
Starting Feb. 21, Elevation is now available to stream on Max. The film follows Mackie as a single father in a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by massive, alien-like creatures. Alongside fellow MCU star Morena Baccarin, and Maddie Hasson, the trio venture beyond "The Line," where monsters live on Earth below 8,000 feet. It's part A Quiet Place and War of the Worlds, while finds Elevation finds its own formula that genuinely feels like a fresh addition to the sci-fi action subgenre. As of Feb.

A new sci-fi apocalyptic film, Elevation, starring Anthony Mackie, fails to meet expectations after receiving a disappointing Rotten Tomatoes score as it hits theaters this weekend. The film follows a single father venturing into dangerous territory in order to save his child, where giant monsters now roam planet Earth below a certain elevation. Elevation feels like an amalgamation of several recent alien horror films, but according to the latest critic reviews, it fails to reach the heights of the genre.
With 21 reviews counted, Elevation has garnered a 52% Rotten score on Rotten Tomatoes, just below the required percentage to get a Fresh rating (but well below Certified Fresh). Although the trailer teased a film from the producers of A Quiet Place and The Purge, it seems Elevation fails to meet expectations of either genre film. Of course, Elevation is notably a lower-budget affair than those two projects, but the new film...

We jump into Elevation three years after an apocalyptic event. Massive insect-like creatures erupt from the ground and wipe out about 95% of humanity. They are efficient in their kills, never resting, never ceasing, but like most creatures in this subgenre, they have a limit. These creatures cannot surpass a certain elevation level, forcing the remainder of humanity to create settlements at high altitudes. Much like the not-too-dissimilar A Quiet Place, Elevation revolves around a small unit of people at the edge of survival and the small hope of finding a solution to defeat these new apex predators.

Marvel stars Anthony Mackie and Morena Baccarin unite for a new sci-fi action movie, and there are options for where to watch Elevation. Post-apocalyptic sci-fi is a movie genre that can be molded in many different directions, with various franchises, stars, and filmmakers putting their spins on the concept over the decades. 2024 continues that tradition with Elevation as Anthony Mackie headlines the independent monster movie about survivors who venture into the dangerous wilderness where mysterious creatures lurk below 8,000 feet of elevation. As Elevation trailers show, the original film combines its post-apocalyptic setting with plenty of action and thrills.
Elevation comes from director George Nolfi and screenwriters Kenny Ryan and Jacob Roman. It marks a reunion with Mackie and Nolfi, who worked together on the 2020 period drama The Banker. Ahead of headlining his first solo film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Captain America: Brave New World, Mackie trades in the...

Networks are planning special reports Monday for coverage of the total solar eclipse, a celestial phenomenon when the moon passes between the Earth and the sun.

Less than 24 hours after a video of Kwwl-tv sports reporter Mark Woodley doing a live remote in the middle of a blizzard for the channel’s morning show went viral, the big cable networks were out chasing their own viral video moments amid record low temperatures.
CNN sent correspondent Lucy Kafanov out into the streets of Denver yesterday, where it was -11 and according to Kafanov felt like -20, for some performative reporting. The network went back to Kafanov repeatedly over the course of the morning so she could throw a cup of boiling water in the air to demonstrate to viewers just how cold it was. Of course the first time, at 10:13 a.m., it didn’t work. An hour later, the water did, in fact, turn to ice in midair. The third time, just after noon, it only sort of worked. She had a backup, though.
