Sci-Fi Short C (299,792 Km/S) - Made Without CGI or Greenscreen
Back in late 2011 Derek Van Gorder and Otto Stockmeier where able to successfully get their Kickstarter for C (299,792 Km/S) funded. They got twice the amount they needed to create their ambitious short film. Their goal was to use retro film making techniques to make a Sci-Fi film without CGI or greenscreen.

C (299,792 Km/S) has a Dharma Initiative in outer space vibe. The story is very simple, so simple that if I were to describe it I would give away the whole plot. C (299,792 Km/S) is very visually dark and the soundtrack has this atmospheric tempo that pushes the pace forward as it dazzles you with retro effects. If you like 2001 A Space Odyssey odds are you will enjoy this short.

The filmmakers shared with Wired how they were able to create a Sci-Fi short set in space with no CGI or Greenscreen.

Stockmeier: All of our miniature...

SFotD: ‘C’ is a Futuristic Sci-Fi Flick Made the Old Fashioned Way
Why Watch? By its full title, C (299,792 km/s) is a bit hard to take in, but the movie itself is sleek with its high concept sci-fi story about a Lt. Commander stealing a weapon of mass destruction. If it belongs to the new genre of 80s homages, it probably belongs at the top of the pile. It’s impressive that Derek Van Gorder was able to make the film without CGI or green screen, opting instead to go old school with miniatures and other dated techniques, but the most laudable element of the film is its dedication to delivering an intriguing plot without betraying its characters with exposition or obviousness. The paralleling educational video is a nice touch as well. Overall, there’s a lot to love here, from the synth soundtrack to the laser-heavy production design. C is a perfect balance of classic form and futuristic function. What will it cost? Only...

Get Your Old School SciFi On With C: 299, 792 km/s
Directors Derek Van Gorder and Otto Stockmeier set themselves and interesting challenge with their scifi short C: 299, 792 km/s. The set out to make a classically styled space opera using nothing but classic effects. That is to say the duo used no CGI or green screen effects at all, choosing instead to execute the entire film using nothing but in-camera optical effects.C is the story of Lieutenant Commander Malleck, and her radical act of mutiny aboard the Kestros IV. With the help of her co-conspirators, she attempts to harness this weapon of mass destruction for a grand new purpose. SciFi Fans! Drop What You're Doing And Watch The Opening Of C: 299,792 Km/S
It was all the way back in 2011 when we first came across Derek Van Gorder and Otto Stockmeier's scifi short C: 299 792 km/s. The fact that the duo were creating the entire piece without the use of any CGI or greenscreen - preferring to work with miniatures and special effects built with their very own hands - is what originally caught our eye. The fact that it looked absolutely fantastic is what kept us watching. This film is the story of an idealistic flight officer who hijacks her spaceship during an interplanetary cold war, and attempts to escape our solar system in search of other habitable worlds. However, when a small group of soldiers led by Second Lieutenant Kai provide unexpected resistance, Malleck's master...

No CGI. No Greenscreen. Check A New Trailer For Derek Van Gorder And Otto Stockmeier's C: 299 792 Km/S
A while back we ran the first teaser for Derek Van Gorder and Otto Stockmeier's C: 299 792 km/s, marveling at the time at the authentic look and feel of the footage created using entirely practical, in-camera effects. While many filmmakers talk about a love for old school technique these two are actually doing it, creating a film entirely free of CGI or greenscreen effects. If it's on the screen it's because they filmed it that way. This film is the story of an idealistic flight officer who hijacks her spaceship during an interplanetary cold war, and attempts to escape our solar system in search of other habitable worlds. However, when a small group of soldiers led by Second Lieutenant Kai provide unexpected resistance, Malleck's...

Exclusive video premiere: The acoustic majesty of Alexander Turnquist's "Hallway of Mirrors"
Watching the video for "Hallway of Mirrors," the title track from the new album by New York State guitarist Alexander Turnquist, you might get the sense that you're watching the preamble to a love story. A woman walks into a park and begins hula hooping, her lithe, black-clad figure offering a provocative contrast to the sunny German day. Turnquist, meanwhile, sits in a grove, the studied coil of his body behind his 12-string acoustic guitar offering a provocative contrast to the open woods around him. You get the sense that these two will save one another from introversion, that they'll pull each other from their own isolated worlds. And maybe they will. We'd hate to spoil it.

We spoke with Turnquist, whose excellent and concentrated Hallway of Mirrors is out now, during his lunch break at a bookshop in Hudson, N.Y.

Something that's certainly different on this album, Hallway of Mirrors,...
