Disney+ may be regretting not giving the green light to a reimagining of a classic Jules Verne novel. Disney’s loss is seemingly AMC’s gain as the 10-part deep-sea adventure fantasy series is dominating the streaming charts.

While the first episode of Nautilus was a little slow, it quickly picked up in action and drama. There’s no doubt that this story needs to continue.
In some great news, the AMC numbers are great. Cinema Blend reports that the show is a surprising success for AMC, although I don’t know why it’s a surprise. The show was a lot of fun for British viewers when it premiered at the end of 2024.
Despite the success on AMC, it’s possible that Nautilus season 2 won’t happen. This all comes down to the fact that it wasn’t originally created for the American network.

It’s up to Humility to save the day in Nautilus season 1 episode 5, but who will save Humility? And is there any way to counteract an infection?
Caution: This post contains Spoilers for Nautilus season 1 episode 5.
Nautilus season 1 episode 4 left the crew of the submarine in grave danger. An electric eel had wrapped itself around them, and it was dragging them down to the depths of the ocean. Well, we pick right back up with that, with Humility trying to figure out a way to fire back.
A flashback of Humility at the French college for boys that she’d previously said she attended kicks off her storyline. She’s sure that she can work out impossible puzzles, and this one with the Nautilus is certainly an impossible one. However, she starts to doubt herself when shocking the eel back doesn’t seem to work.

Sometimes, the safety of the boat is best. That’s what Humility learns in Nautilus season 1 episode 4.
Caution: This post contains Spoilers for Nautilus season 1 episode 4.
After finding out that some islands harbor dangerous people, Nemo’s crew learns that some islands harbor dangerous creatures. Nautilus season 1 episode 4 leads the crew to a new island in search for food and water, but they end up in another life-threatening situation.
Of course, they need to get out of the situation with the Dreadnought firing harpoons at them first. That leads to Nemo swimming out (without a suit) to smash the glass on the bottom of the Dreadnought to at least get everyone out of the harpoon room. It’s not enough to take down the Dreadnought, but it’s a start.

Disney+ may have made a huge mistake shelving Nautilus. The 10-part reimagining of Jules Verne's Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas recently premiered on AMC to major viewership success.
According to Deadline, the premiere episode of Nautilus, "Anahata," attracted 2.6 million viewers on linear alone, per Nielsen live+3 data. This makes it AMC's biggest premiere night audience since The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, which premiered just over one year ago on Feb. 25, 2024. Nautilus' impressive viewership results come a week after FlixPatrol reported on how the series had also found success on AMC+, beating out hits like The Walking Dead: Dead City and Hell Motel on the streaming chart.

To say that there have been a lot of adaptations of Jules Verne's Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea would be an understatement. Since 1907, there have been countless movies, TV shows, and animated productions that have all put their own spin on the classic novel. Now, a British adaptation has taken the streaming charts by storm, nabbing the top spot on AMC+. Titled Nautilus, the ten-part series began airing on June 29, and if you're a fan of action adventure dramas, this is one that should be on your radar.
Starring Shazad Latif as Captain Nemo, Nautilus presents fans with an origin story about everyone's favorite Indian prince-turned-crusading scientist. Unlike Verne's novel, which gives very little away in terms of Nemo's backstory, here we see him as a Colonial prisoner in 1866 who helps build the titular ship. After a planned uprising, he takes control of the Nautilus and...

AMC's new show Nautilus, which is based on Jules Verne's seminal novel Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, opened to a strong Rotten Tomatoes score in its U.S. debut. Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea was written and published between 1869 and 1870, and it's often considered one of the most influential and iconic works in science fiction as a whole. Nautilus is inspired by Verne's novel and, more specifically, by its mysterious Captain Nemo and the world's first submarine, the Nautilus. The cast of Nautilus use their engineering marvel to go on adventures across the world and explore the depths of the ocean.
At the time of writing, Nautilus had a score of 78% on Rotten Tomatoes across 9 reviews, and audiences gave it a score of 71% with over 50 ratings. Created by James Dormer, Nautilus is a new adaptation of Jules Verne’s novel 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Episodes 1 and 2 have dropped tonight, June 29, on AMC and AMC+.
Right off the bat, I have to mention how gorgeous the sets are. The show is set in 1857, a time with opulent architecture and style, all of which is rendered beautifully in Nautilus. There is plenty of action, some of which is reminiscent of the Indiana Jones movies. There are fun bits of humor in there too.
Let’s take a look at the first episode. It’s a basic but necessary introduction to the characters and scenario.

You know the later story of Captain Nemo, but what about his origin story? That’s what we get with Nautilus, and the first two episodes premiere tonight, Sunday, June 29 on AMC and AMC+.
Captain Nemo was made famous in Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne. It’s a story that captured hearts and minds, and there have been various versions of the brilliant scientist over the years. However, it’s time to go back to where it all started. This Indian Prince faced heartbreak and a need for revenge, and that’s what Nautilus covers.
Shazad Latif stars as Nemo, an Indian Prince-turned-scientist, who is on a mission to get revenge against the East India Company after the deaths of his wife and child. He’s grieving, but he also needs to focus on gaining the trust of his new shipmates, as they pirate the open waters.

One great thing about the streaming era is that if one platform drops the ball or decides to cut its losses, another often steps in to pick up where others left off. That’s precisely what happened with the new series Nautilus. Developed initially for Disney+, reportedly at a cost of over $300 million, the platform ultimately scrapped the project.
Fortunately, AMC+ acquired U.S. distribution rights, while Prime Video picked it up for release in the United Kingdom. Considering the high price tag with no big-name stars attached, was Nautilus worth it? The result is a souped-up, lavish series like you used to see with Lucy Lawless or Daniel Goddard, syndicated internationally, and pre-streaming

Star Trek: Discovery's Shazad Latif is going where no man has gone before... but this time, instead of outer space, he's headed to the hidden depths of the ocean. Latif stars as Captain Nemo in Nautilus, AMC's new reimagining of Jules Verne's classic science fiction novel 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. The show's new trailer sees him set sail in the titular super-submarine, even as he's pursued to the ends of the Earth. The series premieres June 29 on AMC and AMC+.
In the new trailer for the 19th-century-set science fiction series, which serves as a prequel to Verne's novel, Nemo is the prisoner of the East India Mercantile Company, a globe-spanning corporation that wields more power than any government. He and his fellow prisoners are put to work building the Nautilus, an advanced submarine that the Company hopes will further tighten its grip on the world's seaways.

Get ready to set sail on adventure, as AMC has confirmed when American audiences can finally watch Nautilus!
Among the many science fiction classics, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea holds a special place. Jules Verne’s 1870 novel was far ahead of its time on undersea exploration via a massive submarine called the Nautilus, captained by the renegade Captain Nemo.
The tale has been adapted numerous times, most notably in 1954’s Disney version starring Kirk Douglas and Paul Mason as Nemo. There have been other takes on it from movies to ABC’s Once Upon a Time.
Now, at last, American audiences have a peek at a prequel series, Nautilus. TV Line confirms that the series will premiere Sunday, June 29 at 9/8c on AMC and AMC+, with its first two episodes. Additional episodes will premiere weekly on Sundays, leading to a double-episode season finale on Aug. 17.

Jules Verne’s classic tale of underwater exploration gets a fresh twist with the upcoming series ‘Nautilus’. I’m excited to see how this show reimagines the world of Captain Nemo, blending high-seas adventure with a gritty fight for freedom. It’s a story that’s been told before, but this version feels like it’s carving its own path, diving deep into a historical clash of power and rebellion.
Set in 1857, the series drops us into a time when the British East India Company ruled with an iron grip, plundering wealth and controlling private armies. We follow a group of prisoners, led by a brilliant but vengeful mind, as they seize a groundbreaking submersible vessel. Their escape into the ocean sparks a thrilling chase, with danger lurking above and below the waves. The show promises stunning underwater visuals—think massive sea creatures and uncharted depths—paired with intense battles against a ruthless enemy.

The nautical fantasy series Nautilus, a ten-episode Paramount production originally intended for Disney+ in 2023, has found a new home and will premiere on AMC and AMC+ on June 29th.
The fact that all episodes of the ambitious and visually rich series had already wrapped filming made Disney+'s subsequent decision all the more noteworthy when they opted not to release it.
This move, reportedly driven by evolving strategic objectives within the streaming service and a directive to reduce overall expenditures, had a ripple effect across several projects in development or completion.
Alongside Nautilus, this change in direction also resulted in the unexpected vaulting of the Willow series and the cancelation of The Spiderwick Chronicles, leaving creators and audiences alike surprised and disappointed by the platform's change of course.

Jules Verne was known for tales of imagination and exploration. Back in the 19th century, his novel Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea told of a mysterious submarine captain called Nemo. Now Nautilus brings that story to the screen by telling Captain Nemo’s own tale.
We meet Nemo in 1857 India, where he’s forced to work under the oppressive East India Company. A brilliant engineer, he secretly designs a submarine even more advanced than what’s known today. When the chance arrives, Nemo steals this creation—the legendary Nautilus. From then on, he and his diverse crew embark on underwater journeys across the seas. Their missions allow glimpses of uncharted marine worlds.
Of course, the company won’t let Nemo escape so easily. They give chase with battleships and troops. This sets the stage for adventures over Nautilus’ 10 episodes. Nemo strives to outwit the pursuers while exploring mysterious underwater life.

This series is a re-invention of the classic tale of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea from Jules Vern, by modernizing the concept. Nautilus tells Jules Verne's epic story from Captain Nemo's point of view: an Indian Prince robbed of his birthright and family, a prisoner of the East India Mercantile Company and a man bent on revenge against the forces that have taken everything from him. Shazad Latif stars in this series as Captain Nemo, acting as an origin story for the Captain – an Indian prince-turned-crusading scientist. Yes, his submarine is in it, taking him on his adventures and into battles with giant sea creatures - including an eel and squid.

While it was originally touted as one of the big new series in development at Disney+, Nautilus hit choppy development waters and ended up in Davey Jones' turnaround locker. Fortunately for those of us in the UK and Ireland the show — inspired by Jules Verne’s Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea – has been picked up by Prime Video and is due to sail onto screens this October.

So he does what surely any of us would — he steals a formidable prototype submarine and escapes into the Indian Ocean with a ragtag crew, determined to enact revenge against the ruthless East India Mercantile Company.
The cast for the new show also features Georgia Flood,...
