Why, hey there tweeples, Fb Friends, Social Networking Stars, and even those of you that participate socially in real life! It’s your nerd with the word, Melissa here! (And if you Don’T know what the word is…too bad! I’m not telling!)
This past week I had a lovely chat with Leah Sturgis, Director of Hard Breakers, about casting, directing her first full length film, and lets face it, the sexual theme of it all. (The interview was conducted over the phone). Check out the interview here:
A big thanks to Leah Sturgis for talking with me! She was extremely nice. Heck, it almost seems like we should have been having this interview over a couple of beers at the bar! High five for being so cool!

Alexis (Cameron Richardson) and Lindsay (Sophie Monk) have had it with the dating scene in Los Angeles. I mean, let’s face it. Waiting for Mr. Right, or even Mr. Right now can be hard! Instead of waiting to be hit on, these two ladies take to the streets with a pro-active, modern twist on the “caveman” approach. This all backfires when Alexis ends up falling for one of her clubbed victims.
Cameron Richardson and Sophie Monk really balanced each other out as the mischievious duo. Richardon’s slightly clueless portrayal of Alexis really complimented Monk’s character of Lindsay, which was the more aggressive of the two. It really becomes apparent when Alexis falls in love and Monk’s character goes on her “guy getting” missions solo. Still, the two need each other to keep their personalities in harmony.
I was pleasantly surprised by this film. I found it to be lighthearted and funny.

Freestyle Releasing has just released this past weekend a new indie sex comedy called Hard Breakers (which will be coming out on DVD August 2nd) by first time writer/director Leah Sturgis. Killer Film caught up with the director to chat about her debut and role reversals between the sexes.
Jon: I was reading your Director’s Statement and you said Hard Breakers grew out of your own relationship frustrations, but besides that, what was it that made you turn it into a script?
Leah Sturgis: I was taken some screenwriting classes, and basically I came up with a few ideas, and wrote some treatments. My teacher would comment and give feedback, and he also liked the Hard Breakers idea. I wanted to it quick, relatively low budget, shoot in to Southern California. I began thinking this could be fun. I just felt like there wasn’t a lot...

Title: Hard Breakers Director: Leah Sturgis Starring: Cameron Richardson, Sophie Monk, Tom Arnold, Chris Kattan, Tia Carrere, Bobby Lee, Adam Gregory, Mircea Monroe, Lochlyn Munro, Sticky Fingaz, Alexis Arquette Wherever Tom Arnold goes in the afterlife he will have to answer for many embarrassments, but the unlikely response to what might be his biggest arrives in the form of “Hard Breakers”, a jaw-droppingly inane collection of half-sketched scenes masquerading as some sort of exercise in girl-power. Actually, that’s a cheap shot… Arnold’s role here is only a small one, but it’s still an undeniable stain on what has evolved into a surprisingly nice little career. The chief blameworthy party is...

Cameron Richardson and Sophie Monk star in this hilarious new comedy about two woman looking for an easy lay, in select theaters this Friday
The so-called chick flick is experiencing a hardcore surge of reinvention at the box office as of late. Last weekend saw director Paul Feig successfully flipping the genre with Bridesmaids, and now this weekend, director Leah Sturgis is pushing the envelope even further with her sexy new comedy Hard Breakers.
This first film from Leah follows two best friends (Cameron Richardson and Sophie Monk) as they navigate the California dating scene looking for less a commitment, and more of a one night stand. Yet, they are met with men who'd rather nest and start a family than bust a nut and flee at nearly every turn.
We recently caught up with Leah Sturgis, who wrote Hard Breakers with her good friend Elaine Fogg, to chat about...
