Zoë Bell at an event for The Internship (2013)
Stunt performer Zoë Bell — Uma Thurman’s double in the “Kill Bill” films and a Quentin Tarantino veteran — is getting into the directing game herself. The New Zealander got her start at 17 as Lucy Lawless’ double on “Xena: Warrior Princess,” and is now among the eight participants in this year’s AFI Directing Workshop for Women. Since 1974, the program has provided tuition-free training to more than 300 women seeking film and television careers behind the camera.

Bell will join Parisa Barani, Jessica Kaye, Shilpi Roy, Amber Sealey, Siyou Tan, Carly Usdin, and Talia Zucker for months of immersive education as they ready short films to debut next year at the Directors Guild of America Theater in Los Angeles. Daniel Ahearn, Louis C. Oberlander, Mark Webber, and Jessica Kaye in Inheritance (2017)
‘Inheritance’: Film Review | SXSW 2017
Daniel Ahearn, Louis C. Oberlander, Mark Webber, and Jessica Kaye in Inheritance (2017)
Americans in Belize get up to some highly dysfunctional family dynamics while mourning a father’s sudden death in the ambitious but over-the-top melodrama Inheritance. This writing-and-directing collaboration between Laura E. Davis (Thin Air) and actor Jessica Kaye features an impressively charismatic Kaye as the story’s leading hot mess. Character actor Mark Webber (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) and Daniel Ahearn lend support as her onscreen brother and boyfriend, respectively. After premiering at SXSW this isn’t likely to set the world on fire, but it should catch some attention as a calling card for several of the key talents.

Perhaps it's...

SXSW 2017: Exclusive Clip from Inheritance
It's a big SXSW for Mark Webber. Aside from world premiering his new directorial outing Flesh and Blood, he also stars in Jessica Kaye and Laura E. Davis's Inheritance. We're very excited for the flick and are happy to share an exclusive clip here. A few words from the filmmakers: Inheritance chronicles one woman's efforts to reconcile her past with her present. As she returns to her childhood home in Belize, Mara is faced with the death of her estranged father, the ire and instability of her brother, and her increasingly frayed relationship with her new lover. Here it is:...

Election Season Panic: How Film Festival Films Are Reflecting Fear of Trump’s America
Tower (2016)
On Tuesday, Americans go to the voting booth to determine what kind of country they want theirs to be. Months of the most polarized, and polarizing, presidential campaign in recent memory have left many of us with battle fatigue and gnawing pangs of cynicism and nausea. To quote Thomas McGuane, in the opening line of his 1973 novel “92 in the Shade”: “Nobody knows, from sea to shining sea, why we are having all this trouble with our republic.”

Our filmmakers might have a clue. And a little distance brings perspective. The American Film Festival just celebrated its seventh annual survey of new (and mostly) independent cinema made in the U.S.A., as assembled for and viewed by eager European audiences in Wroclaw, Poland. Though not without some escapist and experimental tangents, the selections couldn’t help but offer a provocative composite of work that serves as a kind of state of the union address.

All God’S Creatures – The DVD Review
A low-budget exercise in depravity and broken lives, All God’S Creatures tells the story of an ordinary serial killer with the ordinary name of Jon Smith (played by Josh Folan who cowrote the ordinary screenplay). A barista at a corner Starbucksish shop by day, Jon spends his evenings trolling for hookers and other loose women to lure back to his apartment to murder and collect their body parts as sicko souvenirs. The story eventually settles in on Jon’s relationship with a distressed Craig’s List hooker named Delia (Jessica Kaye) who’s just left an abusive boyfriend and has plenty of nasty baggage of her own.

All God’S Creatures strikes an uneasy balance between sinister suspense and hipsterish irony. Co-directors Ryan Cummings and Frank Licata are gifted enough to combine elements of schlock and exploitation fare with an arthouse sensibility, but All God’S Creatures suffers from...

All God’s Creatures Review
All God's Creatures Directed by Ryan Cummings and Frank Licata Written by Josh Folan and Billy Fox (additional material) Starring Josh Folan, Jessica Kaye and Ginger Kroll The new indie film release All God’s Creatures tells the story of fresh-scrubbed boy next-door Jon (Josh Folan), a barista by day and unconscionable serial killer by night. Jon prowls the streets of New York searching for women to slay after he leaves the coffee shop at night, and has little trouble doing so thanks to his wholesome good looks and quiet demeanor. But any horror fan knows it’s always the quiet ones you need to worry about. Back at his apartment, Jon keeps a macabre collection of “trophies” acquired from his victims, preserved in jars and proudly displayed on shelves in his basement. Jon is indiscriminate in choosing his victims; it seems no one woman is safe from his primal urges.

Hawaii Five-o Spoilers: Meeting a New Team Member
Hawaii Five-o won't air a new episode until March 21. That's the bad news.

But here's the good news: viewers will meet Larisa Oleynik's Jessica Kaye that night, a new team member who will shed light on Wo Fat and his connections to McGarrett's father.

"She brings some of that Wo Fat backstory to light and sheds new light on his character. She sort of reinvigorates McGarrett's interest," producer Paul Zbyszewski tells TV Guide.

Will Wo Fat's plot be wrapped up this year? Not likely, adds Zbyszewski: "We see him more in terms of a series-long character, much like the original Five-0."...

'Hawaii Five-0' recruits 'Alex Mack' star Larisa Oleynik
Will you buy Alex Mack as a CIA analyst? The producers of "Hawaii Five-0" hope so.

The CBS show has signed Larisa Oleynik, who played the title character in Nickelodeon's mid-'90s show "The Secret World of Alex Mack," to a recurring role. She'll appear in several episodes this season and has an option to become a regular in Season 2, TVLine reports.

Oleynik's character, Jessica Kaye, is a former CIA analyst who comes to Hawaii to help Five-0 track down Wo Fat (recurring guest Mark Dacascos), who's connected to the murder of McGarrett's (Alex O'Loughlin) parents and other nefarious doings on the islands. Jessica also has a personal score to settle, as she believes Wo Fat had her CIA-officer fiance killed.

In addition to "Alex Mack," Oleynik co-starred in the movie "10 Things I Hate About You" and had a recurring part on "3rd Rock From the Sun," playing love interests for Joseph Gordon-Levitt in both.
