It's officially 2025, and we can’t wait to welcome back all of our favorite shows! One show we're especially excited to see return with a brand new season is the supernatural mystery drama School Spirits. The long-awaited second season is set to be released on Paramount+ sometime early this year.

After the shocking reveal of Maddie's fate at the end of the first season, we're really looking forward to diving back into the story in School Spirits season 2. Season 1 follows Maddie Nears, a teen girl who ends up trapped in the afterlife after mysteriously dying at her high school. Throughout the first season, we watch as Maddie tries to uncover the truth behind her death with the help of other spirits trapped at the school.

In season 2, the story picks up right where the first season left off. Maddie is still stuck in the afterlife, but now she knows what really happened to her.

Game of Thrones' Lena Headey and Barry's Henry Winkler have joined the cast of Bob Odenkirk's upcoming action movie Normal. Odenkirk was previously confirmed to be reuniting with Nobody screenwriter Derek Kolstad for the project, which will be directed by Meg 2: The Trench's Ben Wheatley. The story features Odenkirk playing a stand-in sheriff named Ulysses in the Minnesota town of Normal, where Ulysses uncovers a shocking discovery following a local bank robbery. Filming has already wrapped on Odenkirk's other upcoming action movie, Nobody 2.

As per Variety, Headey will be playing the local bartender while Winkler plays the mayor of Normal. The movie's production in Winnipeg, Canada began in October and is scheduled to continue through December, with the project being produced by the same team who worked on Nobody and Nobody 2. Ryan Allen, Billy MacLellan, Brendan Fletcher, Peter Shinkoda and Jess McLeod have also joined the cast in supporting roles.

Henry Winkler and Lena Headey have joined Bob Odenkirk in the upcoming action movie “Normal,” from the producing team behind the 2021 hit “Nobody.”

In “Normal,” Odenkirk plays Ulysses, who is appointed substitute sheriff in the tiny Minnesota town of Normal, populated by friendly Midwesterners. When the local bank is sacked, Ulysses “unknowingly uncovers something far more explosive than a simple bank robbery,” per the logline.

Winkler, star of “Happy Days” and “Barry,” will play the mayor of Normal, while “Game of Thrones” and “300” favorite Headey is the local bartender, Moira.

“Normal” is directed by Ben Wheatley from a screenplay written by “John Wick” creator Derek Kolstad, who shares a story credit with Odenkirk. Producers are Marc Provissiero (“Nobody,” “No Hard Feelings”), Odenkirk and Kolstad, who all recently wrapped “Nobody 2.”

These dedicated theater-goers attend every eligible production during the Broadway season. When the 77th Tony Awards nominations are announced this morning, those honored with recognition will have been selected by a small group of theatre professionals who commit to seeing each and every eligible production that opened during the 2023-2024 season. They are thus able to make informed decisions on what shows, performers and creatives should earn the spotlight of New York theatre’s top honor.

This past season, 60 theatre professionals saw all 36 eligible musicals, play, and revivals and will select the nominees in 26 competitive categories.

We’ve learned this morning that It’s a Wonderful Knife is now coming home for Christmas, with the film exclusively streaming on Shudder on December 1, 2023.

The film will be available on Shudder in the US, CA, Uki, and Anz.

The new film “It’s a Wonderful Knife,” written by Michael Kennedy (“Freaky”) and directed by Tyler MacIntyre (“Tragedy Girls;” “V/H/S/99”) falls into numerous genres: slasher, comedy, holiday and even LGBTQ+.

It’s no surprise that Kennedy and MacIntyre drew upon some obvious — and not-so-obvious — inspirations for the festive and frightening feature. TheWrap caught up with Kennedy and MacIntyre to talk all things “It’s a Wonderful Knife.”

The obvious inspiration for the film — which finds a young woman (Jane Widdop) transported to a world where she never existed on the eve of Christmas — is “It’s a Wonderful Life.” What is your connection to the classic?

Kennedy: It was a holiday staple in my family household growing up every year, and a Christmas family favorite. It was also my dad’s favorite movie; he passed away in 2018. So this movie was kind of a weird way to honor him.

Here in the United States, It’s a Wonderful Knife was released in just 923 theaters over the weekend, and the holiday horror film posted impressive numbers at the box office.

It’s a Wonderful Knife slashed into $605,110 in those 923 theaters in its debut weekend, a number that’s quite respectable for a low budget slasher playing in limited release.

An inverted Christmas tree with as many missed opportunities as you’d find toppled ornaments, “It’s a Wonderful Knife” begins where most slashers end. Our final girl dispatches and unmasks the killer in just a cool 15 minutes before a title card announces the cutlery pun-turned-feature film in earnest. It’s then that director Tyler MacIntyre really gets to work, reimagining the black-and-white holiday classic from 1946 as a middling 2023 slasher satire doomed to fade from memory with the calendar year.

"It's A Wonderful Knife" is a warm and fuzzy Christmas slasher that reimagines "It's A Wonderful Life" in a head-on collision with "Scream." Writer Michael Kennedy and director Tyler MacIntyre don't want to eviscerate Yuletide feelings like other Christmas horror movies, much in the spirit of George Bailey's uplifting seasonal journey. It's all bloody, decking the halls with gory delights, but there's also a wholesomeness at the story's core akin to self-affirming modern slashers like "Happy Death Day" or Kennedy's own "Freaky." From writer Michael Kennedy (Freaky) and director Tyler MacIntyre (Tragedy Girls) comes It’s a Wonderful Knife, and the Christmas slasher will have its Canadian Premiere at the Toronto After Dark Film Festival later this month (October 18-22).

Earlier this year, we shared the news that Tragedy Girls director Tyler MacIntyre had teamed up with Freaky screenwriter Michael Kennedy for a Christmas slasher called It’s a Wonderful Knife, which had just wrapped production at the time. Now we know when audiences are going to have the chance to see the film. It’s a Wonderful Knife is set to have its world premiere at Beyond Fest on October 8th – then Rlje Films, which has acquired all English language territory rights to the film, will be giving it a theatrical release in the United States on November 10th.

It’s a Wonderful Knife will eventually be streaming on the Shudder service as well.

Ain’t No Mo star and playwright Jordan E. Cooper, Kpop composer Helen Park, and Ojibwe and Oneida performance artist Ty Defoe are among the new members of the Tony Award nominating committee.

The trio are among 25 new members of the 2023-2024 committee announced today by the Tony Awards Administration Committee. Other newcomers include Dear Evan Hansen composer Benj Pasek, writer-director Miranda Haymon, actors Jason Tam, Bob Balaban and Adam Chanler-Berat, and Flying Over Sunset lyricist Michael Korie.

The 2023-2024 committee of the Tony nominators will include 60 members, each of whom serve a three-year term. The Tony Awards are presented by The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing.

Peacock is reworking its slate, and it's bad news for fans of YA dramas Vampire Academy and One of Us Is Lying.

Deadline reported Friday night that both series had been canceled after their most recent runs on the streaming service.

Vampire Academy came from Julie Plec (The Vampire Diaries) and was expected to be a big hit for the service, but Deadline notes that the numbers didn't justify a second season.

"St. Vladmir's Academy isn't just any boarding school — it's a hidden place where vampire royals are educated and half-human teens train to protect them from the savage 'Strigoi' vampires who would like to see them destroyed," reads the logline for the series.

Vampire Academy stars Daniela Nieves (Snowfall) as Royal Moroi vampire Lissa Dragomir, Sisi Stringer (Mortal Kombat) as Rose's Dhampir Guardian Rose Hathaway, and Kieron Moore (Sex Education) Dhampir Guardian Dimitri Belikov.

Say goodbye to “One of Us Is Lying” and “Vampire Academy.” On Friday, Peacock canceled both shows, the latest in a wave of cancelations as studios, streamers and networks cut costs heading into 2023.

“One of Us Is Lying,” the very first pilot Peacock ordered to series, debuted in 2021 and was renewed for a second season, which premiered last fall. “Vampire Academy” has been staked through the heart after just one season.

Exclusive: A pair of YA drama series are coming to an end at Peacock.

The NBCU streamer has cancelled One Of Us Is Lying and Vampire Academy.

One Of Us Is Lying ran for two seasons, while Vampire Academy, which comes from Julie Plec, has ended after one.

Deadline understands that execs at Peacock were happy with both shows creatively but they just didn’t find the requisite audience to justify further seasons.

One Of Us Is Lying, which is based on Karen M. McManus’ novel, launched in October 2021 and was the first Peacock pilot to go to series. It was renewed for a second season earlier this year that aired in October 2022.

Vampire Academy was handed a straight-to-series order in May 2021 and premiered in September 2022.

Both shows come from Universal Studio Group.

Saleh teases that One of Us Is Lying Season 2 picks up in the immediate aftermath of the message from Simon Says.

Telling another mystery after the original is dead and buried is tough.

Many mystery series struggle to follow up that first big hook, but One of Us Is Lying Season 2 manages to elevate the mystery and the stakes to leave viewers with a sense of dread.

TV Fanatic got the chance to screen the entire season ahead of launch, and you'll be glad to know that the series takes things in a drastically different direction.

That's not to say there were any significant flaws with the first season. It's just that taking things in a different direction as opposed to reinventing what made the first season successful is a sign that the creatives are confident in their storytelling.

We pick back up with Addy (Annalisa Cochrane), Cooper (Chibuikem Uche), Bronwyn (Marianly Tejada), Nate (Cooper van Grootel), and Janae (Jessica McLeod) in the immediate aftermath of that text.

The identity of snarky gossiper Simon Kelleher’s killer in season one was identified at the conclusion of Peacock’s One of Us is Lying season one. And, mini-spoiler alert, the gang took care of that problem (Rip Jake) but wound up creating a new one. Which, of course, leads us to season two.
