‘Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End’ Teams With Tokyo Live-Action Role-Playing Game Attraction – Global Bulletin
Image
‘Frieren’ Frenzy

Sony Music Solutions has unveiled a collaboration between hit anime series “Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End” and “Dungeon ∞ Spiral,” the live-action role-playing game (RPG) attraction at Tokyo’s Tokyu Kabukicho Tower. Running July 18 through Sept. 23, the partnership allows players to select one of four series characters — Frieren, Fern, Stark, or Himmel — as “Buddy Characters” featuring over 140 new Japanese voice lines with English subtitles.

The physical game experience, which opened in March, challenges teams of 2-3 players to defeat monsters through rope-pulling, ball-kicking, and rhythm-based movement in an immersive dungeon setting. Unlike traditional video game RPGs played on screens, this attraction requires players to physically move their bodies to control their avatars, blending strategic gameplay with real-world physical activity and teamwork.

Players receive limited-edition “Buddy Crystal” acrylic blocks as proof of their character bonds, with premium sets including “Memory Crystal” keychains available to buy. The collaboration extends throughout the tower,...

The Anime Everyone Curses as an ‘Attack on Titan Clone’ Is Actually Inspired by Gundam
Image
Inspiration can strike a person in the most unlikely of places. That is exactly what happened to Tesuro Araki, the maker of many anime like Death Note, Attack on Titan, and Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress. Surprisingly, many even believed that Kabaneri was a copy of Attack on Titan. This was because of the chaotic setting and the constant turmoil due to the plague of the ‘Kabane’.

But it turns out that there is a much older series that Araki took inspiration from, a series he had loved and admired ever since he was a child; something that pushed him to explore the steampunk world with incredible machinery and technological advancements. That series was Mobile Suit Gundam.

“I pitched it to them”: We Owe ‘Guilty Crown’ Director for Giving ‘Attack on Titan’ the Push It Needed
Image
First released in 2011, Guilty Crown presented a cool concept to the audience. Contrary to the first impression, the overall run of the anime garnered mixed reviews from fans, resulting in great disappointment for the director Tetsuro Araki. If this name sounds familiar, then it must be noted that Araki was the director of Attack on Titan for the first three seasons, which were animated by Studio Wit.

Interestingly, there’s a connection between the negative reception of Guilty Crown and Attack on Titan’s impressive track record. During an interview, the director shared how he came to direct Hajime Isayama’s beloved series and how Guilty Crown’s performance defied his expectations.

“The Mc is too bad to ignore”: ‘Guilty Crown’ Director Might Be In Denial of Why the Anime Failed to Badly
Image
There are many anime that have been remembered for their specialties, be it a unique take on a genre, satire, an unusual protagonist, or anything else. When Guilty Crown aired in 2011, it had everything going for it—it was a unique story, exceptional visuals, stunning Ost (Original Soundtrack), but now most people might not even have heard about it.

In that day and age, with all that the series had going for it (including a very compelling female lead), it should have become a huge hit, but it failed. It failed miserably and was buried.

The Director, Tetsuro Araki, said that it was a masterpiece that was not understood and was criticized. In his words- ‘We did amazing work, yet it was called crappy.’ Let us delve in and see what Guilty Crown did wrong.

Why did Guilty Crown fail so horribly?

“I was surprised myself”: Attack on Titan’s Most Controversial Animation Change Even Stunned the Director
Image
Attack on Titan‘s success was extraordinary in many ways, as it reignited and skyrocketed the hype surrounding anime among international audiences. Hajime Isayama’s intricate storytelling is more than capable of garnering such a reaction. However, the anime also did a phenomenal job of elevating the storytelling and taking the story to a widespread fanbase.

The Attack on Titan anime is a masterful adaptation of the source material that stays true and faithful to the narrative, making use of the visual and auditory advantages to best convey the severity of the events that unfold.

Every time Attack on Titan anime is mentioned, one can’t help but ask which version of the anime: Studio Wit or Studio Mappa? The studio switch the anime underwent was the most controversial change which sparked some heated discussions. Even the director of the anime was surprised by it,...

10 Best Water-Based Environments In Anime, Ranked
Image
Water is one of the most important substances in the universe. Without water, plants couldn't grow, and animals couldn't survive, meaning that an Earth without water would be massively different from the one we call home. Outside its importance, water can also be beautiful, from the terrifying majesty of the oceans to the calm serenity of raindrops running down a window pane after a night of heavy rain.

Due to these elements, creatives frequently use water in their works. Sometimes, water is used as a metaphor for life or the passage of time, while other creatives use water to give locations a specific atmosphere or to hint at a grander theme that runs through the work. Naturally, anime is no exception to this, as many series and movies feature memorably wet locations. But which is the best?

As soon as a manga begins to gain attention, fans start looking forward to a potential anime adaptation. And that’s how Hajime Isayama feels about the anime adaptation of Attack on Titan.

Your Name's Makoto Shinkai Gives Rave Review for New Movie 'The Colors Within'
Image
On Aug. 30, 2024, The Colors Within -- an original anime film by A Silent Voice director Naoko Yamada -- debuted in Japan. Since the movie's release, many prominent industry figures, including Your Name director Makoto Shinkai, have stepped forward to lavish praise on Yamada's latest masterpiece.

Per Mantan Web, Shinkai recently released a "rave" review praising director Yamada for creating what he deems to be a "one-of-a-kind" animated feature. "It's a very gentle, cute and soft film, but it's also filled with a strong determination," Shinkai wrote. "It's amazing that they were able to create this film now! I can't help but imagine that the planning and production of the film must have been a struggle. It's very encouraging and I admire them. If each film has its own 'color,' then [The Colors Within] is a one-of-a-kind film that expands the colors that exist in the world itself."

“What an utterly outrageous guy”: Highschool of the Dead Director Came Clean About Anime’s Raunchiest Scene That Put Tite Kubo’s Fan Service to Shame
Image
Featured for the first time back in 2010, Highschool of the Dead took the world by surprise. Set in a zombie-infested world, the anime carved a unique niche in the industry as it received a positive response from the fans for featuring an interesting narrative, gore violence, and a strange sense of humor.

However, one key aspect of the show became the reason behind its massive success. The blatant display of ecchi moments in the series goes hand in hand with the raunchy actions done by the characters. These moments not only made the viewers look in anticipation but also left a lasting moment in viewers’ minds.

The show did not hesitate to do fan service, which would even shame Tite Kubo’s work. But there was one scene that was probably the raunchiest of all, and after so many years, the...

“They’re harder to draw than even a mob of titans”: The One Titan Hajime Isayama Had the Most Trouble Drawing in Attack on Titan Also Looks the Most Badass of Them All
Image
Attack on Titan has featured a variety of different characters, all helming unique designs because of Hajime Isayama’s attention to detail. While he has never been too fond of the artistic prowess he possesses, there are times when the mangaka shines out. The way the series is drawn, it has a combination of sequences that can scar the reader through disturbing imagery or make them weep with how emotional things can get.

Sometimes, these sketches can escalate, frightening even Isayama himself. While that may come as a surprise to most, in the ways he was drawing the Titans, some of them haunted him and because of how much he loved to draw them, certain changes were to be made.

Best Anime Movies of the Last 5 Years, Ranked
Image
Anime is an incredible storytelling medium where it often feels as if anything is possible. Ongoing anime series can reach incredible heights through episodic and serialized narratives. However, theres a whole other pedigree of talent thats featured in the anime cinematic spectacles that grace movie theaters and streaming services. Anime movies often benefit from a greater budget and a lengthier production schedule that allows these stories to excel in ways that would otherwise be impossible in anime TV series.

Some of animes greatest triumphs are feature films from the past that helped put the medium on the map, whether its Akira, Ghost in the Shell, or even Pokmon: The First Movie. These older anime movies are certainly magical, but recent cinematic accomplishments have left just as great of an impression on audiences. Its truly remarkable to see what modern anime feature films have been able to accomplish and there are...

In the animated short film "COLORs," one of five created for Toho Animation's 10th anniversary, a high school girl discovers that her classmate presents as a woman outside of school. She follows them around the city, from a coffee shop to a festival to a forest bursting with fall colors. When they announce one day that they are transferring elsewhere, the girl is overcome with sorrow.

She leaves her apartment to go find them, perhaps to tell them how she really feels. But then, out of nowhere, a warning siren rings. The city bursts into flames as a great sphere hangs in the sky. Soldiers engage the unseen enemy. Amidst the chaos, the girl finds her former classmate and embraces her. Her classmate kisses her on the forehead, and then joins the army.

How The Director Of Cowboy Bebop Inspired Others To Change The Anime Industry
Image
The one anime series that I'm most excited about this spring is "Skip and Loafer." The source manga tells the tale of Mitsumi Iwakura, an ambitious teenage girl from the country who moves to Tokyo for high school. There she meets the easygoing Sosuke Shima, and the two of them slowly build a close-knit network of friends that includes local mean girl Mika Egashira, bookish Makoto Kurame, and independent-minded Yuzuki Murashige. Each of them is as different as can be, and yet despite bad early impressions, they find a common cause in each other. "Skip and Loafer" is too good-natured to be a "realistic" high school story. But it is successful at evoking the texture of adolescence in its banality, complexity, and sweetness.

"Skip and Loafer" is also the first anime in years to be directed and scripted by the great Kotomi Deai, who has now been active in the...
