Even before James Gunn’s “Superman” flew in to multiplexes and made a handsome $125 million at the domestic box office, conservative pundits were mad about it.
“We don’t go to the movie theater to be lectured to and to have somebody throw their ideology onto us.” That was Kellyanne Conway talking to Fox News, a network whose whole business model is lecturing and throwing their ideology onto people. Apparently they don’t know much about Superman. Or irony.
Conway and her Maga ilk, many of whom have expressed consternation and wrung their hands over Gunn’s so-called “woke” version of Superman, are entitled to their opinions. They are allowed to dislike and even hate Gunn’s take on the character. They have every right to disagree with Superman’s ethos that all human beings should be treated equally and that every living creature on the planet matters (even the...

The right has already branded the new DC tentpole too woke after its director called the character an immigrant, but just what role do real-world issues play in the film?
Superman Woke! Variations on that headline splashed across all manner of non-Daily Planet websites this week in advance of a new Superman movie reboot, specifically the comments of writer-director James Gunn, who casually characterized the character as an immigrant and, as such, telling the “story of America” in an interview. This rankled rightwingers including the former TV Superman Dean Cain, who acknowledged Superman as an immigrant but blanched at the idea of actively associating that as an American value, noting that “there have to be limits”.
Meanwhile, the former Trump lackey Kellyanne Conway, now a Fox News host, characterized the movie she hasn’t seen as an ideological lecture, and added her supposed anger that the movie’s star,...

Dean Cain, who played Superman from 1993 to 1997 on ABC’s “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman,” recently told TMZ (via Entertainment Weekly) that he’s wary about Hollywood making the Man of Steel “woke” in James Gunn’s upcoming “Superman,” where David Corenswet takes over the title role. The movie has faced conservative backlash ever since Gunn told The Times of London that Superman is an “immigrant” and “the story of America.”
“How woke is Hollywood going to make this character?” Cain said. “How much is Disney going to change their Snow White? Why are they going to change these characters [to] exist for the times? For Superman, it was ‘truth, justice, and the American way.’ Well, they dropped that… They came up with ‘truth, justice, and a better tomorrow.’ Changing beloved characters I don’t think is a great idea. If you want to create a new character go ahead and do that.

James Gunn’s recent comments to The Sunday Times about his upcoming Superman movie being “the story of America” and rooted in “an immigrant that came from other places” have ignited backlash from conservative circles. Critics, including former Donald Trump advisor Kellyanne Conway, accused Gunn of injecting ideology into the iconic superhero, with some branding the film as “Superwoke.” Gunn simply stated,
I mean, Superman is the story of America. An immigrant that came from other places and populated the country, but for me it is mostly a story that says basic human kindness is a value and is something we have lost. Yes, it plays differently.
But it’s about human kindness and obviously, there will be jerks out there who are just not kind and will take it as offensive just because it is about kindness. But screw them.

Those with even the most basic knowledge of the Superman story would not have been surprised to hear what filmmaker James Gunn — director of the highly-anticipated Superman reboot — stated plainly in a recent interview with The Sunday Times. “Superman is the story of America. An immigrant that came from other places and populated the country, but for me, it is mostly a story that says basic human kindness is a value and is something we have lost,” he said.

An interview with Superman director James Gunn was published over the weekend, and it generated a lot of discussion. In the piece, the filmmaker called the movie "the story of America" and added, "An immigrant that came from other places and populated the country, but for me it is mostly a story that says basic human kindness is a value and is something we have lost."
Gunn later acknowledged that Superman is about "politics" and "morality," and made it clear he's not bothered about offending anyone. Well, Fox News was offended.
In a segment that saw Superman dubbed "Superwoke," network anchor Kellyanne Conway said, "We don’t go to the movie theater to be lectured to and to have somebody throw their ideology onto us." Jesse Watters added, "You know what it says on his cape? MS13."

The new Superman movie is stirring up a lot of talk, even before it hits theaters everywhere. The controversy started after director James Gunn called Superman “an immigrant” in an interview with The Times of London.
Gunn explained that for him, Superman’s story is really about America. He said the movie shows how an immigrant came from another place and became part of the country. But more than that, Gunn said the heart of the film is kindness. “Basic human kindness is a value and is something we have lost,” he told the paper.
He also admitted the film touches on “politics” and “morality,” and he knows some people won’t like that. “There are jerks out there who are just not kind… but screw them,” Gunn said.
The idea of Superman as an immigrant isn’t new. The character’s creators, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, were both children of Jewish immigrants.

Sean Gunn Responds to Maga Backlash Over “Superman Is an Immigrant” Remark: “We Love Our Immigrants”
The new Superman movie hasn’t even hit theaters everywhere yet, and it’s already become the center of a political storm, especially over director James Gunn’s comments calling Superman “an immigrant.”
In an interview with The Times of London, James Gunn explained what the story of Superman means to him. He said it’s “the story of America” and that the film shows how “an immigrant came from other places and populated the country.”
But what matters most to him, he said, is that the movie is really about kindness. “Basic human kindness is a value and is something we have lost,” Gunn told the paper. He admitted the story does involve “politics” and “morality,” and he knows not everyone will be happy about that. In fact, he added bluntly, “There are jerks out there who are just not kind… but screw them.”
The immigrant roots of Superman aren’t a new idea.

Eyes up here, Superman fans. The time has finally come for DC's flagship hero to make his newest appearance in James Gunn's highly anticipated reboot film, after months and months of extremely calm and perfectly rational frenzied speculation over just how this franchise restarter would actually turn out. With Zack Snyder's controversial take on the character now in the rearview mirror and Gunn's interpretation ahead of us we can practically look to the skies in anticipation of what comes next.
The ultimate answer to what comes next is inching closer and closer with the first official reactions to the upcoming "Superman." Slated to fly into theaters in just a few days, the new blockbuster has already screened for critics around the globe, and their early thoughts and hot takes are currently pouring into social media as we speak. Is this the savior that Warner Bros. and DC so desperately needed?...

The team behind “Superman” is responding to the backlash after director James Gunn said the DC tentpole is the story of “an immigrant that came from other places.”
When asked about the reaction to his comments, James Gunn explained that the movie is for “everyone” and that he doesn’t have “anything to say to anybody” spreading negativity around “Superman.”
“I’m not here to judge people,” he told Variety at Monday night’s “Superman” premiere at Hollywood’s Tcl Chinese Theatre. “I think this is a movie about kindness and I think that’s something everyone can relate to.”
Nathan Fillion, who plays Guy Gardner, aka Green Lantern, laughed off the negativity and kept his response brief.
“Aw, somebody needs a hug,” Fillion said. “Just a movie, guys.”

Michelle Wolf knows how a low-stakes news cycle works. It typically starts with an event, the backlash and discourse unfold, and after a while, everyone eventually moves on. After her appearance at the 2018 White House Correspondents’ Dinner, the comedian figured this was the course it would take and was content with moving on. But when then-White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the target of one of her joke’s that night, revived the conversation in her memoir, Wolf figured she might as well crack open her own vault of...

American Idol kicked off Sunday night with its annual promise: to serve as a launching pad for aspiring young musical talent. But some contestants already have a head start with a familiar advantage: the lineage of a famous family.
Season 23 rolled out its first “nepo baby” with Baylee Littrell, son of Backstreet Boys member Brian Littrell, who auditioned in front of judges Carrie Underwood, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.
“There’s something about you that looks familiar,” Underwood said to the 22-year-old Georgia hopeful.
Idol didn’t hide Baylee’s background, it leaned into it: showing footage of dad Brian introducing him onstage and performing, and a photo of Underwood with Backstreet Boys posters on her wall.
Brian Littrell made the case for his son, saying that being the progeny of a famous singer isn’t exactly a perk. Still, it didn’t hurt his chances either, as he earned...

Veteran NBC News anchor and chief political analyst Chuck Todd is leaving the network, TheWrap has learned.
“There’s never a perfect time to leave a place that’s been a professional home for so long, but I’m pretty excited about a few new projects that are on the cusp of going from ‘pie in the sky’ to ‘near reality,’” Todd said in a memo to staff obtained by TheWrap on Friday. “So I’m grateful for the chance to get a jump start on my next chapter during this important moment.”
His update comes a few weeks after Semafor reported the former “Meet the Press” host had been looking at different news outlets to join. Todd said in his Friday memo that his “Chuck Toddcast” podcast would be “coming with me” to his next stop, for which he thanked NBC.

Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway screamed in the face of former The View host Meghan McCain at an event this summer.
Conway approached McCain in the green room at a backstage panel hosted by the Washington Post for the 2024 DNC Convention. She began to verbally assault her for sharing her thoughts on her marriage to conservative lawyer George Conway. The former couple divorced last year.
“You’re in my space,” McCain repeated, “I’m uncomfortable.”
Those with a more sympathetic recollection said Conway waited for the area to clear so as not to create an unnecessary spectacle and approached McCain, saying, “You have no right to speak about my marriage like that.” Others observers claim Conway was “shrieking like a banshee,” and that McCain was trying to calm her down.
In the middle of her rant, eyewitnesses say McCain finally lost her patience and snapped back at Conway for her rude behavior.

Meghan McCain may not be on The View any longer, but she is still getting into fights with other ladies.
Meghan McCain was on The View for four short years between 2017 and 2021 and was “miserable” during that time as the lone conservative voice during that time.
She shared that sentiment on her podcast, Meghan McCain Has Entered the Chat, which has since been renamed Citizen McCain with Meghan McCain.
While she is not sparring with any of the current ladies on The View, including Sunny Hostin or Joy Behar, she is still involved in arguments.

Election Day is here, and the major news networks are prepared for a long night — and potentially a long week.
With over 50 million people early voting in the 2024 Presidential Election, Tuesday night will offer plenty of results to thumb through even if an ultimate winner isn’t called until later in the week, and most of the news networks will kick off their election night coverage at 6 p.m. Et, with CNN even starting at 12 a.m. Et while NBC News begins at 5 p.m. Et.
MSNBC’s Steve Kornacki will return to the Big Board — and will even be livestreamed on Peacock and other social platforms — while Fox News will see Bill Hemmer steering the “Bill”-board.
Most networks have scheduled eight hours of election night programming from 6 p.m. Et to 2 a.m. Et, with a result for the presidential showdown between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump not expected immediately.

Out with the old, in with the new and blue? That’s what a lot of fans and critics alike are probably thinking to themselves as Kellyanne Conway shared a photo of herself posing with none other than Donald Trump.
Here’s What Critics Really Think Of Kellyanne Conway
Not only that, but she also had on a brand new baby blue ‘Make America Great Again’ hat.
Kellyanne shared her pics with Trump on social media and captioned them with, “Quite the visit today with @realDonaldTrump in #NJ. Bonus: the new blue #Maga 45-47 hat from the man behind the movement. #winners.”
Clearly, these two seem to be on good terms again, despite their history and past.
It goes without saying that many fans and critics alike sure did have a lot to say about the matter on social media.
Some even commented with, “I’ve never forgiven you for...

Let’s just say that she’s got a good point here. There’s a new report that suggests Melania Trump wants a certain woman to come back to Donald Trump’s life and you won’t believe who it is. Keep reading below for everything you need to know.
Melania Trump – Wants This Woman To Come Back In Donald Trump’s Life
According to the Daily Beast, Melania is pushing Donald to bring back his former advisor Kellyanne Conway. Because she thinks that if there’s one person who can help him win the presidential campaign, it would be Kellyanne, as she was quite instrumental in helping him beat Hillary Clinton back in 2016.
Not only that, but Melania is pushing for Kellyanne to comeback simply because she believes she’s a “familiar face amid a sea of relative newcomers” who probably don’t know what they are doing at this point.

Former President Donald Trump is trying to downplay his presidential opponents’ rally crowd sizes, falsely claiming that “nobody was there” at a Detroit event hosted by Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.
Trump, who is obsessed with the size of his own crowds and frequently exaggerates attendance numbers, is “unhappy” with the number of people who have been attending Harris and Walz’s campaign events, as Rolling Stone reported last week.
“Has anyone noticed that Kamala Cheated at the airport?” Trump ranted Sunday on Truth Social.

The world has changed in countless ways since Billy Joel kicked off his monthly Madison Square Garden residency in January 2014. Donald Trump was a mere NBC reality show host at the time, Jeb Bush had good reason to think he was the future of the Republican party, and few people outside the world of virology had heard the term “coronavirus.”
But despite all the changes we’ve lived through, it was a certainty that (barring illness or global pandemic), Billy Joel would play a spectacular show at Madison Square Garden every single month.

Kellyanne Conway, a prominent conservative strategist, and her daughter, Claudia Conway, have been at odds ever since Claudia emerged as a strong critic of the former president and now his V.P. pick, J.D. Vance.
Conway, who advised the former president during his first term in office, endorsed Vance as his V.P. choice on X with the statement, “Senator @JDVance1 represents a new generation of America First warriors. His life experiences and vision equip him to fight for the forgotten men, women and children. Let’s win in 2024!”
Claudia responded to the post, “Thought he called the former president ‘Hitler’? He did. Though he said he opposes marriage equality and abortions for r— and incest? … Oh, right, he did.”
In another post, Claudia responded to a video in which Vance says women should stay in “violent” or “unhappy” marriages for the sake of their children with “Major yikes.”

Tucker Carlson and his estranged ex-boss Rupert Murdoch very nearly collided Wednesday in the lobby of the Trade Hotel in Milwaukee, where they’ve both been staying during the Republican National Convention this week. Sources tell Hot Source that the potentially awkward reunion was averted by quick-thinking Murdoch aides, who formed a human wall around the Fox News baron just as Carlson was passing by, narrowly averting contact between the two.
Carlson, of course, was fired from Fox in April 2023, part of the fallout from the Dominion Voting System lawsuit, which cost the network $787 million in damages. Relations between Fox and the talk show host — who during his tenure at Fox lobbed such on-air whoppers as George Floyd died of a drug overdose — are said to be strained, to say the least.
Not completely surprising then that Carlson would be using the RNC as something of a revenge tour against the Murdochs,...

Notably missing from the lineup: Former First Lady Melania Trump and the former president’s daughter, Ivanka Trump. They each spoke at the 2016 and 2020 conventions.

Donald Trump has had payback on the brain since he was convicted on 34 felony charges of falsifying business records in New York last week. He told Sean Hannity on Wednesday that he would have “every right” to weaponize the Justice Department to prosecute his political enemies should he win in November. He told Dr. Phil a day later that “sometimes revenge can be justified,” with the interview airing hours after he called for members of the House Jan. 6 Committee to be indicted. George Conway, a top Republican lawyer who has been an outspoken critic of former president Donald Trump, has donated the maximum amount of $929,000 to President Joe Biden’s victory fund.
Conway, who divorced Kellyanne Conway, the ex-Trump White House counselor, is also going to headline a fundraiser for Biden on April 24, with a minimum donation of $500 per person.
The event will take place in Washington, D.C., marking the anti-Trump lawyer’s “first big pro-Biden event.”
Melissa Moss, a strategic consultant, and her husband, Jonathan Silver, are the lead hosts for the event.
The lawyer frequently appears on MSNBC to criticize Trump, calling him a “psychopath” and “sadistic.”
Conway said that he was hoping to “make amends” for supporting the former president in the past.

TikTok is trying to stop the U.S. government from implementing a nationwide ban on the app, but its big move may have backfired. As the House of Representatives prepares to vote on a contentious bill introduced by a bipartisan group of Congresspeople, TikTok has prompted its U.S.-based users to call their Congressional reps and protest the measure.
The bill, co-authored by Mike Gallagher (R-wi) and Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-il), is the latest in a years-long series of proposals that, if enacted, would effectively ban TikTok in the United States. This particular bill would enforce its ban by pointing to China’s status as a “foreign adversary.” Congress has long harbored concerns about TikTok’s data security practice, and the bill would act on those fears by sidelining apps that could send data to China.

A small contingent of journalists gathered near the Canadian border earlier this morning to watch as Dixville Notch, Nh, continued its tradition of casting the first ballots on an election day.

Haley and her top surrogate, New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu, blitzed the airwaves on Monday, while Trump held a final rally in Laconia, Nh, where he predicted that Haley would be out of the race after tonight. He was interrupted by climate protesters, who have been a frequent presence at events in recent days.
