Starsky & Hutch has a female-led reboot in development at Fox. The action series, which starred Paul Michael Glaser as the hotheaded and intense detective David Michael Starsky and David Soul as his more bookish and retiring partner Hutch Hutchinson, originally ran for four seasons on ABC between 1975 and 1979. Todd Phillips later adapted the series into a 2004 comedy film starring Ben Stiller as Starsky and Owen Wilson as Hutch.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, a Starsky & Hutch reboot featuring two female leads is currently in the works at Fox. The showrunners and writers attached are Elizabeth Peterson, a writer on the Fox medical drama The Resident, and Sam Sklaver, the creator of the procedural Prodigal Son. The series would follow Sasha Starsky and Nicole Hutchinson as they solve various crimes around Desert City and attempt to solve a 15-year-old case that sent their fathers to prison unjustly.

A U.S. version of the series, which comes from Italian producer Lux Vide, the company behind Aidan Turner series Leonardo, is in the works at Fox.

Michael Thorn, President of Scripted Programming at Fox, told Deadline that the network has a “couple of pieces of material that are being worked on as we speak”.

The move further into medical development comes as the future of long-running series The Resident hangs in the balance. The show just ended its sixth season but Thorn said that he hasn’t made a decision yet as to whether this will be its final season.

The Italian series follows a doctor who suffers a major head injury that wipes 12 years from his memory. It was the most-watched Italian series in the last 13 years with its run on public broadcaster Rai.

Lou Diamond Phillips was finding his seat on a layover flight, in early May of 2021, when he noticed Prodigal Son co-creator Chris Fedak was calling his cell phone. The Fox drama had already wrapped production on Season 2, and Phillips was confident he’d pick up the phone to hear that Prodigal Son had scored a third season.

“One hundred percent, I thought it was the call to say, ‘Hey, buddy, we’re going back to work in July,'” Phillips recalls to TVLine. “I had every reason, as did the cast and crew, to believe that this was going to be the case.

A major option for cancelled Fox drama series Prodigal Son is no longer on the table. I hear HBO Max has passed on the opportunity to pick up the series killer drama starring Michael Sheen and Tom Payne.

HBO Max, whose sibling Warner Bros. The news comes ahead of the second season finale, which is scheduled to air on May 18. That episode will now serve as the series finale. An insider with knowledge of the situation characterized the move to cancel the series as a difficult one, but went on to say that the show’s ratings did not justify a third season.

The series follows Malcolm Bright (Tom Payne), a criminal profiler with a rare talent for getting inside the minds of killers. Not everyone would eagerly hope to be welcomed into a family of killers, but then again, not everyone is Catherine Zeta-Jones.

The Academy Award winning actress joins the cast of “Prodigal Son” during the midseason finale, which airs Tuesday, March 2 on Fox, and Zeta-Jones spoke to reporters early Tuesday afternoon about her love of the part, the series, and its odd little family.

“I was a fan of the show,” Zeta-Jones said during the series’ TCA presentation. “What’s so different and powerful about ‘Prodigal Son’ is that it’s a family drama with a twist of danger. It’s a dark, dark family, and I gravitate toward darker material.”

Cumming will pop up in two episodes as Simon Hoxley, a cocky Europol agent and one of the world’s most celebrated criminal profilers, who’s also known as The Mind Sleuth.

The Black Lives Matter protests that flooded streets worldwide last summer have made way for one of Prodigal Son‘s most timely storylines — one in which a Black NYPD detective, Jt Tarmel, becomes the target of police brutality from fellow officers.

As evidenced by Tuesday’s episode of the Fox drama, Jt is not yet past the trauma of the incident, which found Jt getting assaulted and choked in the Season 2 premiere by another cop who profiled Jt and assumed him to be a criminal; it wasn’t until Jt’s colleagues intervened, with Dani flashing her police badge, that the violent cop eased up.

Fox’s “Prodigal Son” picked up its tale of twisted family dynamics with the premiere of its second season Tuesday, an episode that revealed what happened in the aftermath of the bloody murder that was committed by Malcolm Bright’s (Tom Payne) sister, Ainsley Whitly (Halston Sage), in front of her brother in the closing moments of the show’s finale last spring.

It turns Ainsley’s crime, stabbing the evil Nicholas Endicott (Dermot Mulroney) seven times, has been covered up by serial-killer expert Bright with the help of the siblings’ serial-killer father, Martin Whitly (Michael Sheen), who walked Bright through the process of cleaning up his sister’s mess over the phone from prison, after Bright sent Ainsley away to protect her from what she had done, which at this point, she doesn’t even seem to remember.

Catherine Zeta-Jones will star as Claremont’s newest psychiatric resident doctor, Dr. Vivian Capshaw, on the forthcoming second season of Fox’s police procedural “Prodigal Son.”

The Academy Award, Tony Award and three-time Screen Actors Guild Award winner will appear regularly in the latter half of the series opposite fellow Welsh native Michael Sheen. When the show’s infamous serial killer Dr. Martin Whitly (Sheen), also known as “The Surgeon,” is assigned to infirmary duty, Zeta-Jones’ Capshaw revels in tasking the charismatic psychopath with tedious, debasing tasks. Oscar and Tony winner Catherine Zeta-Jones is set to star opposite Michael Sheen on the upcoming second season of Fox’s serial-killer thriller drama Prodigal Son.

Zeta-Jones will appear in the latter half of the season as Dr. Vivian Capshaw, Claremont Psychiatrics’ resident MD.

In Season 2, Dr. Martin Whitley (Sheen) is assigned to infirmary duty, and Dr. Capshaw (Zeta-Jones) revels in tasking “The Surgeon” to clean bedpans and mop the floor. But as Martin proves valuable in treating patients, Capshaw begins to see him in a new light…which is not a good thing.

Prodigal Son proved to be a unique offering in a small screen sea flowing with genre-similar crime procedurals, standing out as a successful freshman offering for Fox after its debut in 2019. While the network was quick to capitalize on that success by giving the series a backorder for more episodes, it stopped short of an advance renewal for Season 2. However, any fears about the network’s apparent indecision proved to be unfounded.

Fox has officially announced its renewal for Prodigal Son Season 2, assuring fans that the crimson-coated cliffhanger on which the inaugural season ended will get to play out onscreen. Moreover, in a move that seems to imply that this renewal was always in the bag, the network also released a proper teaser trailer for the second season of Prodigal Son, featuring new footage about the aftermath of said cliffhanger moment (more on that angle later).

Exclusive: Two-time Tony award winner Christian Borle (Little Shop of Horrors) and Michael Potts (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom) are set to recur opposite Michael Sheen and Tom Payne on the second season of Fox’s serial killer thriller drama Prodigal Son.

The series follows Tom Payne’s Malcolm Bright, son of ‘The Surgeon’, played by Sheen, who as a child was responsible for enabling the police to arrest his father. He has not seen his father in ten years after joining Quantico. Now a profiler, formerly with the FBI, until he was fired, and currently consulting for the New York Police Department, Bright is forced to confront his father after a copycat serial killer uses Whitly’s methods of killing. He finds himself drawn back into constant contact with his father as he must both use Whitly’s insights to help the police solve particularly horrible crimes and battle his own inner demons.
