Jim Lee
Marvel Comics takes us back as X-Men's Rogue is challenged in the Savage Land
Jim Lee
The '90s were a crazy time for comic books, especially when independent companies like Image Comics rose in popularity. Gen13 and the art of J. Scott Campbell are prime examples of this. So, it shouldn't come to anyone's surprise that one of the creators of Gen13 also created one of the most iconic superhero outfits in all comic book lore. One that is still debated and cosplayed to this day, I am talking about Jim Lee and Rogue’s Savage Land outfit, first appearing in Uncanny X-Men #269.

Now, comic book readers will travel back with Rogue: The Savage Land, as writer Tim Seeley and up-and-coming artist Zulema Scotto Lavina expand on the story first introduced in 1990.

Black Panther Writer Explains The Surprisingly Personal Reason for Having T'Challa's Sister Shuri Take Over The Role
Image
With Halloween putting Marvel fans of all ages into Black Panther costumes around the world, one writer has explained that was actually a major reason for his creation of Shuri, sister of King T'Challa, and the female Black Panther of Marvel's Universe.

Co-creator of Shuri, Reginald Hudlin, shared insight into the Character's purpose, after seeing a reference to the character on Abbott Elementary. During the Halloween episode of the show, "Costume Contest," teacher Janine Teagues (Quinta Brunson) reacts to one of her white students dressing as a Black Panther, prompting Hudlin to cite a similar surprise he found after creating Shuri:

When I wrote Black Panther I created Shuri so both my son and daughter could dress as the character for Halloween. After the movie debuted, a third of the kids at their elementary school, of all races, came as Black Panther or Shuri. https://t.co/AQqyQkGMoE Reginald Hudlin...

New Star Wars Lego Set Brings Back A Classic Leia Design For The First Time In 9 Years, Completes Rotj Change
Image
One incredible new Star Wars Lego set brings back an iconic Princess Leia Organa outfit from Return of the Jedi that was previously thought banned. Leia is easily one of Star Wars' best characters, and her importance to Star Wars movies and TV shows cannot be overstated. In fact, even outside the Skywalker family tree, Leia had a massive influence on both the Rebellion and the Resistance. Yet, that made one choice in Return of the Jedi even more jarring.

Specifically, Leia's outfit aboard Jabba's Sail Barge, often referred to as her 'slave costume,' became quite controversial following Return of the Jedi. Because it was so sexualizing, rumor had it that Disney had outright banned merchandise with that outfit. However, Lego's brand-new Jabba Sail Barge model (75397) includes a Lego piece of Leia wearing this outfit. This suggests that Disney Star Wars hasn't banned the outfit being reproduced in merchandise after all,...

Spider-Man's Controversial Mary Jane Cover Gets New Update for 2024

J. Scott Campbell has revealed a new cover for Ultimate Spider-Man #4, showing Peter and Mj with their kids. Of course, no one necessarily needs a special occasion to be fashionable, and this surprise showcase of winter apparel is a welcome treat.

Marvel recently announced the series alongside a preview of five out of the total seven ski chalet variants.

Lucas Werneck's variant for Thunderbolts #1 and Russel Dauterman's cover for X-Men #29 debut on December 6. The following week, Greg Land's contribution for Captain America #4 arrives. The next three covers all hit the shelves on...

Marvel Officially Gives Captain America Chris Evans' MCU Butt in New Art
Image
Chris Evans' butt just became canon for the comic book Captain America, as Marvel releases art of the Sentinel of Liberty that puts the Super Soldier's gluteus maximus front and center. The art will appear on select issues of Captain America #750.

Marvel has just released a press release sharing details for the landmark Captain America #750. The comic finds Steve Rogers at a significant moment in his life, as Bucky Barnes' betrayal tears his closest alliances to shreds. The book will also include an origin story for Sam Wilson's new shield, and see Sam and Steve clash with the White Wolf. But despite the drama, fan attention has focused around one image - a variant cover by Adi Granov, which shows the Cap of Earth-616 sporting a dead ringer for Chris Evans' movie posterior, which Ant-Man famously declared to be "America's ass." The issue will include a host of talent,...

Jim Lee's Rejected Star Wars Plan Would Have Changed Comics History Forever
Image
The Star Wars franchise has a long history in comics, but one rejected proposal from Jim Lee’s Wildstorm imprint might have changed comics history forever.

Ever since the release of Star Wars in 1977, George Lucas’ space saga has had a strong foothold in the comics world. Marvel Comics published a monthly series that ran for 107 issues. Marvel let the rights lapse in the late 1980s, allowing Dark Horse Comics to acquire the Star Wars license and produce a steady stream of comics for more than 20 years. After Disney purchased Lucasfilm in 2012, fans suspected it was only a matter of time until sister company Marvel got the license to make Star Wars comics once more, something that eventually came to pass in 2015.

Captain America Gets a New Nickname Thanks to a Marvel Cover Error
Image
Marvel Comics made a major error in its latest cover for Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty, as it features the wrong title for the recently released issue. On Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #7, the name of the issue was mistakenly written as "Captain America: Symbol of Liberty," which is a mix-up of the two current series for Sam Wilson and Steve Rogers' Captain America.

In the current Marvel Comics universe, two heroes are operating as Captain America, as Sam Wilson and Steve Rogers both don the mantle in their own series. Wilson stars in Captain America: Symbol of Truth by Tochi Onyebuchi, R.B. Silva, Ze Carlos, and Ig Guara, while Steve Rogers is featured as the patriotic hero in Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty by Collin Kelly, Jackson Lanzing, and Carmen Carnero. However, in a recently released cover from Marvel Comics, someone appears to have mixed the series and heroes up,...

Spider-Man's Most Controversial Cover Is a Reality in New Cosplay
Image
A highly controversial Spider-Man cover gets the cosplay treatment from a Marvel fan, and at the same time proves the cover's creator right. Peter Parker has had many love interests during his 60 years of history, but Mary Jane remains the most enduring and popular character; despite her marriage ending in a retcon, fans still remember what Spider-Man does not. Now, a skilled cosplayer recreates one of the webslinger's most controversial pictures in reality.

Spider-Man's relationship with Mary Jane Watson began as friends but a small rivalry occurred between her and Gwen Stacy. Though the pair were friends, Peter was clearly more interested in Gwen than Watson, and the former's death had a strong impact on all parties. Unlike Gwen Stacy, Mary Jane was told about Peter Parker's double life as Spider-Man, and she eventually accepted that being a superhero wasn't something that Parker could simply quit. Their marriage lasted nearly...

Mary Jane & Black Cat Team Up In Action-Packed Cover
Image
A new all-action variant cover shows Spider-Man's two execs, Mary Jane and Black Cat, teaming up. Peter Parker's love life has always been something of a tangled web, simply because his superhero secret identity places a lot of stresses on his private life. There have been several occasions when he's (unwisely) tried to conceal his Spider-Man identity from his latest flame, and it's never gone well.

Two of Spider-Man's greatest loves, of course, are Mary Jane Watson and Black Cat. These two women know all Spider-Man's secrets; although relations between them were frosty for years, they've recently become much more supportive of one another, aware they have so much in common. They're soon to team up again, this time in an adventure in which they struggle to escape the Hell Dimension of Limbo.

What Happened To Shuri After Becoming Black Panther In The Comics
Image
As only the second major Black Panther of Marvel's modern comics era, Shuri had a rocky road as Wakanda's monarch and protector, but it was one she'd trained her whole life to possess. Now, with all signs indicating Letitia Wright's Shuri will wear the suit in the upcoming MCU film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, fans are asking what actually happened during her comic-book reign, and where the hero and ruler finds herself now.

Shuri actually intended to become the Black Panther at the same time as T'Challa, as shown in 2005's Black Panther from Reginald Hudlin and John Romita Jr. Having trained to take part in the combat ceremony that would have granted her the honor, Shuri was beaten to the role by her brother, though she continued to protect the nation, even facing and cutting down the Radioactive Man with the Ebony Blade - a weapon she had claimed from the original,...
