Reed Hastings, co-founder, chairman and former CEO of Netflix, has signed on as an executive producer of Costa Rica-set crime thriller “52nd State” — his first official credit as a producer on a film or TV show.

However, “52nd State” is not a Netflix production. The indie film is co-written and directed by Todd Yellin, a former longtime Netflix exec who served as VP of product before he exited in 2022 to pursue a career as a filmmaker.

According to the production’s reps, Hastings’ decision to join the project was “deeply personal” and driven by his attraction to the film’s “bold, high-stakes storytelling” and his long relationship with Yellin. Hastings, after 25 years at the helm of Netflix, in January 2023 stepped down as CEO of the company and now serves as chairman.

This marks Hastings’ first ever credit as a producer on a film or TV series. In 2023, after 25 years at the helm, Hastings stepped down as co-ceo of Netflix and now serves as Chairman. 52nd State marks one of his first independent film ventures outside of his role at the streamer.

As we first told you, the film is co-written and directed by longtime Netflix executive Todd S. Yellin and produced by Fernando Ferro and The Witch producer Jay Van Hoy. It’s an independent feature and not a Netflix production.

In a recent conversation on Spotify’s “The Ringer” podcast, Cyrus said she “wasn’t allowed” to sing any of the original songs from her hit TV series “Hannah Montana” after the show ended in 2011.

“After I left Disney, I wasn’t allowed to perform any of the ‘Hannah Montana’ music,” she explained. “It’s not like I wanted to, I mean, performing ‘The Best Of Both Worlds’ between ‘We Can’t Stop’ and ‘Wrecking Ball,’ wouldn’t have really made sense.”

“It was still sad knowing those songs have my voice, my face, and I wasn’t allowed to sing them,” she added.

However, after Cyrus was named a Disney Legend at D23 2024, she was “given permission to perform those songs in the future,” which Cyrus said was “pretty cool.”

The second season of Prime Video's critically-acclaimed video game adaptation Fallout is still in production, but that hasn't stopped one of its main stars from teasing a "magical" new batch of episodes that elevates the series to another level. Walton Goggins, who recently starred in The White Lotus Season 3 and currently appears in The Righteous Gemstones, will once again be featured as the gun-toting immortal cowboy Ghoul in Fallout Season 2. He recently gave out some exciting details about the upcoming season, which "really starts cooking."

During an interview with Complex, Goggins was quick to praise Fallout Season 2, teasing fans that it will reach another level as a result of the first season laying the groundwork for the post-apocalyptic world and all of its quirks. As someone who has formed part of several beloved shows that have gone on for more than one season, Goggins is especially equipped to make this statement.

Fallout increased Ella Purnell's following among gamers outside of the League of Legends fan base. The actor says playing Lucy comes with unique challenges, especially after the character lost one of her fingers.

Ella Purnell fears she would be typecast into playing characters with dead fingers. During a MegaCon Q&a panel, she admitted that's one thing she hates about her Fallout character. "That would actually be one of the worst things to happen to me," she said (per Screen Rant). "You know how annoying it is to have that finger painted on me every single day? This finger is the bane of my life. It's the worst thing." Purnell was referring to Lucy MacLean's "new" trigger finger, which was picked out of a litter of "spares" from a drawer. The Ghoul cut Lucy's finger in Season 1 after she bit his off in Episode 4.

“We’re in the middle of filming it right now, we’ve been at it since November, and I can tell you that I thought Season 1 was extraordinary, personally, I was very pleased with it,” he said. “This blows it out of the water, what these writers have done and the artisans that have come together to tell this story. It’s really gonna be something. I can’t wait for people to see it. We’re working really hard to make that happen.”

Fallout season 2 gets a new production update, confirming that filming has been delayed due to the California wildfires. Based on the beloved video game franchise of the same name, the Prime Video series premiered last year, becoming a major viewership hit.

Deadline now shares a new update regarding Fallout season 2, revealing that the show was set to resume filming this week on Wednesday after a holiday break. Due to the devastating wildfires that are currently raging throughout parts of Southern California, however, this filming date has tentatively been pushed back to Friday. Three of the main stars of Fallout had no idea where the video game-turned-television show adaptation was headed in its season finale. Some of them, it seems, even insisted on that being the case — which is wild when you consider just how much happens in the series' epic season one finale.

During a Variety panel for the series moderated by Kara Warner, series stars Walton Goggins, Yellowjackets star Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten and Moisés Arias all spoke about the blockbuster season finale, and how it felt to enter the post-apocalyptic world with so little information on where it might be going.

"We got two episodes. Two episodes were written before we started, just episode one and two, to understand the tone," explained Goggins. "And then [the scripts] would dribble out, if I remember correctly. We didn't get eight until..."

"Two days before?" Purnell offered half-jokingly. "It wasn't really two days, but it felt like two days.
