'In Treatment: Season Two' Is Television Worth Listening To
It might sound like damning a television show with faint praise to say that it is good enough to be on the radio. In the case of In Treatment, though, it should be taken as a well deserved compliment. This HBO series is modest in its visual ambition and is all about script and characterization. It's a show that captures your attention with splendid dialogue and acting rather than flashy camera moves, soft rock backing music or pyrotechnics. HBO (via Warner Home Video) recently released the complete set of Season Two on DVD. For admirers of quality drama, it's well worth listening to.

Ostensibly In Treatment might sound like another television medical drama. Each show revolves around the patients of psychotherapist Paul Weston (Gabriel Byrne). This is not a therapy-based soap opera variant of Grey's Anatomy or Private Practice, though. Each season focuses on a small number of Weston's patients...

DVD Review: Second Season of HBO’s Brilliant ‘In Treatment’
Chicago – “In Treatment” is something of a TV miracle. It is a drama that focuses solely and purely on how what we say is as important as what we do. With real-time therapy sessions that play like mini-plays, “In Treatment,” the second season of which is now available on DVD, is far and away one of the best shows of the last several years. It’s a major commitment of time and emotion but it gives more than it takes.

DVD Rating: 4.0/5.0

It could be the former theatre major in me, but I look at “In Treatment” with a certain sense of awe. It is human interaction completely stripped down to performance and dialogue. As great as shows like “Lost” and “Mad Men” are they have production elements that hook the viewer in their own way. For “In Treatment,” it’s all about the characters and the people portraying them.

TV Review: Sophomore Season of ‘In Treatment’ is Riveting, Rewarding Drama
Television Rating: 5.0/5.0 Chicago – Quick - What’s the best show on television right now? “Lost” has its fans but I think that show’s taken a slight dip in the new season, as has the increasingly too silly “30 Rock”. People love “Burn Notice,” “Big Love,” and “Damages,” but they’re done for the year. After Sunday, there is one clear answer. The best show on television is HBO’s “In Treatment”.

HBO has adjusted the broadcast schedule for “In Treatment,” combining the five sessions that were broadcast during separate nights into two evenings a week for season two. I’m still not sure of the best way to deliver a program that requires as hefty a commitment as “In Treatment,” but I’m not sure this is the right solution. 90 minutes of therapy on a Monday night seems like a large hill for viewers to climb after the start of their work week.
