Why Van Damme’s Best Street Fighter Role Was Ken, Not Guile
Image
Jean-Claude Van Damme plays Guile in the 1994 Street Fighter movie, but he was far better suited for Ken Masters. Street Fighter debuted during the 1994 holiday season, becoming a box office hit, but earning mostly negative reactions across the board. Street Fighter featured many of the most recognizable combatants from the popular video game franchise, and attracted equally recognizable names from Hollywood also.

Street Fighter debuted at the height of the Jean-Claude Van Damme action movie boom, with Van Damme playing Colonel William Guile, leader of the Allied Nations forces opposing General Bison. While Van Damme's popularity and martial arts skills made him a logical choice to appear in Street Fighter, he was ultimately miscast as Guile. The Street Fighter character Ken Masters, on the other hand, would have fit Van Damme very well.Related: Mortal Kombat vs. Street Fighter: Which Video Game Movie Was A Bigger Hit

Alain Moussi Talks Charlie Nash in 'Street Fighter: Resurrection' | Exclusive
Alain Moussi
Back in 2010, Joey Ansah and Christian Howard came together to write and star in a fan film that brought some of the most beloved characters in the popular Street Fighter video game series to life. That film, Street Fighter: Legacy, became a viral sensation, amassing over 5 million hits on YouTube, which lead to these martial artists coming back to make Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist in 2014, a 12-episode web series for Machinima. The same team behind that series is back with an all-new miniseries, Street Fighter: Resurrection, debuting on Machinima's new go90 channel today, March 15. While most of your favorites are back, a big part of the new series is Alain Moussi, who plays the iconic Charlie Nash.

In Street Fighter lore, Charlie Nash was in the Marine Corps with his longtime friend Guile. He was first introduced in Street Fighter II as the deceased friend of Guile, but he was...

Street Fighter: Resurrection, Machinima’s newest live action series, launches Tuesday, March 15th exclusively on go90. Resurrection features Christian Howard and Mike Moh reprising their Assassin's Fist roles of Ken and Ryu. Alain Moussi stars as Nash. Though the web series will focus on Nash and his fight against Shadaloo, if Nash is involved, certainly we have to get a cameo of Guile, right? Scott Adkins has long been the fan favorite to play the character and he's good friends with director Joey Ansah. We'll find out for certain if Guile appears when Resurrection premieres on March 15th on go90.

Another "Street Fighter" Web Series Planned
Capcom and Machinima are teaming to produce "Street Fighter: Resurrection," a live-action miniseries adaptation of the "Street Fighter" video game franchise.

The five episode series will kick off in March through Verizon's go90 app and ties into the release early next year of the highly anticipated "Street Fighter V".

The story is set ten years after the events in previous Machinima series "Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist". Mike Moh and Christian Howard are reprising their roles as Ryu and Ken respectively, and are joined by Alan Mousi in the lead role of Charlie Nash - a character who has returned from the dead in the game.

Nash is targeting legendary champions for unknown reasons and Ryu and Ken are determined to find out why. The release comes in the wake of 'Assassin's Fist' which pulled in 17 million aggregate views across its twelve episode run.

"Street Fighter V" meanwhile releases February 16th on PS4 and PC.

Machinima Reveals First Original Series ‘Street Fighter: Resurrection’ For Verizon’s Go90 Platform
Back in September 2015, Machinima announced it would create exclusive video content for Verizon’s mobile video platform go90. Now, the self-described “many-2-many” network has revealed its first series for go90 will be Street Fighter: Resurrection, which will debut in March 2016.

Street Fighter: Resurrection is a sequel to Machinima’s 2014 web series Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist, which was based on Capcom’s Street Fighter video game series. Assassin’s Fist managed to pull in over 17 million views total. Machinima’s five-part Resurrection mini-series will be set ten years after Assassin’s Fist, and star Alain Moussi (Suicide Squad, Pacific Rim) as iconic Street Fighter Charlie Nash. It’s unclear whether or not Resurrection is meant to serve as the previously-announced sequel to Assassin’s Fist, or if the go90 series is an all-new addition to Machinima’s Street Fighter franchise.

Regardless, Machinima will bring back Assassin...

Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist started life as a YouTube series, but director, writer and star Joey Ansah is now releasing the online hit in a feature length cut which hits DVD, Blu-ray and Blu-ray steelbook on October 27th. The movie was made in association with Capcom USA and blends top notch martial arts with an authentic adaptation of the iconic Street Fighter franchise. Ansah gained recognition for his role in The Bourne Ultimatum, and as well as playing fan-favourite character Akuma in this movie, he's joined by Mike Moh as Ryu, Christian Howard as Ken and Akira Koieyama (47 Ronin) as martial arts teacher, Gouken. I recently had the chance to talk with Joey over the phone about Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist, as well as which other comic book and video games he would like to adapt and his thoughts on a faithful take on the X-Men in the near future.

Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist - Full Trailer
Machinima has released the full trailer for their new web-series, Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist. Street Fighter was one on my favorite games growing up, but it never really seemed to translate very well to film. This might be the best adaptation we ever get because I seriously don't think any studio is going to attempt to make another Street Fighter movie ever again.

The live-action series comes from Ansah, who worked on the fan film Street Fighter: Legacy. He also stars in the series as Akuma, and co-wrote the script with Christian Howard. The series also stars Mike Moh as Ryu, Togo Igawa as Gōtetsu, Akira Koieyama as Gōken, Gaku Space as Gōki, Mark Killeen as Mr. Masters, and Hal Yamanouchi as Senzo.
