Image
A full Free Movie of the Day is posted on the JoBlo Movies YouTube channel every day of the week – but on Fridays things get a little freakier and a little more fun. Get your weekend started the right way by indulging in Friday Fright Nights! Every Friday, we’ll be taking a look at another genre movie you can watch in its entirety, free of charge, either on the YouTube channel linked above or in the video embed here.

This week’s Friday Fright Nights feature is a sequel to a film we’ve previously shared as a Free Movie of the Day, the horror anthology film 10/31. This one is quite fittingly called 10/31 Part 2! It consists of story segments that were directed by Brett DeJager, Max Groah, John Hale III, Zane Hershberger, Robert Lanphere, Drew Marvick, Jennifer Nangle, Tory van Buskirk, and Stephen Wolfe. Groah, Hale, Hersherberger, Marvick, Nangle,...

‘The Sleeper’ Blu-ray Review
Stars: Brittany Belland, Tiffany Arnold, Riana Ballo, Jason Jay Crabtree, Jessica Cameron, John Bloom, Ali Ferda, Luke Frost, Paul Moon | Written and Directed by Justin Russell

As a collector of VHS, The Sleeper was one of those films that has been on my radar for quite some time. The film was released in a VHS/DVD big box combo set by producers Gamma Knife Films back in early 2012 – I didn’t pick up that version sadly, but I did grab a copy of The Sleeper when it finally came to DVD here in Blighty back in 2013. Cut to 2018 and the film has received the Blu-ray upgrade treatment courtesy of Scream Team Releasing!

At first glance The Sleeper is very reminiscent of Ti West’s House of the Devil – especially given the retro look and feel which echoes West’s stylistic choices on his breakout flick – however this film focuses on...

The Sleeper (2012) Review
Reviewed by Chris Wright, MoreHorror.com

“The Sleeper” (2012)

Directed By: Justin Russell

Written By: Justin Russell

Starring: Brittany Belland (Amy), E. Ray Goodwin (Det. Drake), Jason Ray Crabtree (The Sleeper), Elizabeth Lane (June), Jenna Fournier (Laura), Riana Ballo (Stacy), Jessica Cameron (Cindy), Tiffany Arnold (Rebecca), Ali Ferda (Ava), Kendra Stevenson (First Sister), Beverly Kristy (Miss Joy), Paul Moon (Bobby), Eric Sarich (Derek), Aaron Russell (Matt Matheson), John Bloom (Dr. Briggs)

I am an avid fan of slasher films as that is one of the first sub genres of horror I got in to when I was younger. Sadly half the time more modern ones do not do a thing for me. I had never heard of “The Sleeper” until I was looking through posts about best slasher films of the 21st century and decided to give this one a try when I saw it was an early 1980s throwback. I am glad I did!

‘The Sleeper’ Review

As a collector of VHS, The Sleeper is one of those films that has been on my radar for quite some time. The film was released in a VHS/DVD big box combo set by producers Gamma Knife Films back in early 2012 – I didn’t pick up that version as I was holding out for a UK release, which never came. However cut to 18 months later and The Sleeper finally comes to DVD here in Blighty thanks to Safecracker Pictures, one of the UK’s most interesting DVD labels, who specialise in releasing independent movies that other, more mainstream, companies wouldn’t (frankly) touch with a bargepole.

At first glance The Sleeper is very reminiscent of Ti West’s House of the Devil – especially...

Questioning Murderous Motivations with The Sleeper: A Movie Review
*here be minor spoilers. Director/writer: Justin Russell. Cast: Brittany Belland, Tiffany Arnold, Riana Ballo, John Bloom, Jessica Cameron, Jason Jay Crabtree, and Ali Ferda. There have been many films in the past that involve serial killers and sororities. From Black Christmas (1974) to The House on Sorority Row (1983) and even to The Sorority House Massacre (1986), there are sorority sisters living in fear of a nameless killer. Justin Russell's debut is reminiscent of all of these. However, The Sleeper is most similar to When a Stranger Calls (1979). You just never know were the killer is in these films. That killer brandishes a smallish looking claw hammer. He babbles into his rotary phone of "girls" and "coming to get you." The girls at the sorority house, to whom he is talking, take little interest. There is partying to do after all. Oblivious to his actions, the killer gets closer and closer to the sorority house.
