Weapons, the new horror film from Barbarian (watch it Here) writer/director Zach Cregger, has made its way out into theatres. The film has been very well received, with JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray giving it a 9/10 review you can read at This Link, and it’s also off to a strong start at the box office, having pulled in more than $81 million over its opening weekend. The reception has been so positive that Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema are already thinking of expanding this into a franchise and are talking to Cregger about making a prequel that would center on a certain character. During an interview with Vanity Fair, Cregger revealed that he gave the actor who plays that character two options for their character’s back story… and before we go any further, we have to drop a Spoiler warning here.

“The Great British Bake Off” has been one of the most popular reality competition shows in the world ever since it premiered on BBC Two in 2010.
However, whether you’ve seen the U.K. series (now on Channel 4) stateside on PBS, Netflix or Roku, you’ve experienced the joys of British baking under a different name altogether — “The Great British Baking Show.” The same goes for its U.S. counterpart.
Ahead of the premiere of “The Great American Baking Show: Celebrity Summer” this weekend, judge Prue Leith opened up about the discrepancy on contestant Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s “Dinner’s on Me” podcast.

Austin Abrams' agent ruined the mystery of Weapons before he read the script. The 28-year-old actor plays drug addict James in Zach Cregger's new horror blockbuster, and he has admitted the movie's big twist - which involves witchcraft being at the heart of the story - was ruined for him before he had a chance to sit down with the story. He told The Hollywood Reporter: "Well, my freaking agent had spoiled it. I love him, but that was annoying. [Laughs]"I still loved the script. I read it in one go in the middle of the night when I should have been sleeping."I just couldn’t stop reading it, which is insane and how it’s been with all of Zach’s scripts. I just love them."Abrams - who will reunite with Cregger on his new Resident Evil movie - praised the way the filmmaker makes...

Who’s ready to practice their “bend and snap” routine? The highly anticipated prequel (produced by Amazon MGM Studios) will follow a teenage Elle as she navigates her high school years. After watching her get into Harvard Law, we're sure she'll make navigating high school look easy because, what, like it’s hard? Shortly after unveiling the new Elle, Witherspoon’s production company, Hello Sunshine, announced that the show had entered production, and Prime Video later confirmed that the Legally Blonde prequel would have a Summer 2026 release. Warning: The following contains major spoilers for Weapons.
With two feature films now under his belt, Zach Cregger is making a name for himself in the horror world. His 2022 shocker Barbarian unfolds in a series of increasingly startling revelations that slowly erode our illusions of safety. His sophomore outing Weapons boasts a similarly cryptic title which clarifies itself in the story’s final act. A shocking tragedy at an elementary school sparks a horrifying tale of parasitic violence and sinister control. As in Barbarian, Cregger offers two female characters who sit on opposite ends of a monstrous spectrum. What unifies Justine (Julia Garner) and the mysterious Gladys (Amy Madigan) is the misogynistic world they both occupy. One suffers from a community primed to vilify women while the other uses patriarchal culture to hide in plain sight.
Justine is the newest teacher at Maybrook Elementary when a strange tragedy befalls the city.

Josh Brolin thinks Weapons is the cure for “boring” content from streamers. The 57-year-old actor stars in director Zach Cregger’s new twisty horror flick, and has now argued Weapons is able to bring the genre to “the edge of absurdity” to ultimately create something fresh and unique away from the offerings of streaming platforms.Speaking with Collider, Brolin said: “You’re looking for great filmmakers, and you’re hoping that there’s another new good filmmaker out there.“Right now, with so much content, you’re just watching things on whatever streaming service you’re on, and you’re just going, ‘F***, why is this so boring, man? Why?’ And just go to the next thing. It’s all the same s***. “And then somebody not only takes the horror genre, but then f**** with it and then does something on the edge of absurdity, and it’s sort of humorous,...

Weapons, the new horror film from Barbarian (watch it Here) writer/director Zach Cregger, has made its way out into theatres. We know what JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray thought of the film, you can read his 9/10 review at This Link – but now we want to know, what did you think of the film?

Pedro Pascal is quickly becoming one of Hollywood's biggest stars and most in-demand actors. This year alone has been remarkable for Pascal, beginning in April with his return as surrogate father figure Joel Miller in HBO's The Last of Us season 2, a performance that earned him a second Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.
This summer alone, Pascal has starred in two A24 movies, Celine Song's romantic comedy Materialists and Ari Aster's neo-Western Eddington. In his biggest role yet, Pascal made his MCU debut as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Pascal was actually set to star in another movie this summer, though he exited the role early in pre-production.

In her nearly 50-year career, Jamie Lee Curtis says she’s only improvised one single line: “Make good choices.” These are the words her character, Dr. Tess Coleman, yelled out the car window to her daughter Anna (Lindsay Lohan) in the 2003 body-swap comedy Freaky Friday. That beloved, heavily-memed quote is brought back for the new sequel, Freakier Friday, which reunites Curtis and Lohan. Only now, things are a little different: Anna is the one shouting “Make good choices!” and consequently mortifying her own teenage daughter, Harper (Julia Butters). Tess sits behind the wheel,...

Barbarian (watch it Here) writer/director Zach Cregger has assembled a strong cast for his mysterious horror project called Weapons, including Julia Garner (Ozark), Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men), Alden Ehrenreich (Solo), Benedict Wong (Doctor Strange), Amy Madigan (Antlers), Austin Abrams (Euphoria), June Diane Raphael (Grace and Frankie), and Cary Christopher (Days of Our Lives)… and we’re going to have the chance to see that cast face the horrors Cregger has conjured up when Weapons reaches theatres on August 8th. Back in May of 2023, it was announced that Pedro Pascal (The Fantastic Four: First Steps) would be starring in the film alongside Renate Reinsve (The Worst Person in the World). Zach Cregger's new horror film Weapons is set to be released in theaters this Friday, and ahead of its debut, the director is opening up about the behind-the-scenes struggles that nearly derailed the project, including the exit of Pedro Pascal. Yes, we're talking about the Emmy-nominated actor who you might recognize from starring as the beloved Joel Miller character in HBO's The Last of Us.
Weapons would've looked much different than how it does now, according to Cregger in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly. The highly anticipated horror film originally had a high-profile cast attached, including Pascal, Brian Tyree Henry, Austin Abrams, and Renate Reinsve. However, the 2023 Hollywood strikes caused lengthy production delays. Due to these delays, actors who were originally attached, like Pascal, had scheduling conflicts and couldn’t stay on.

Josh Brolin and Julia Garner have a lot of friends in common, so when they found their way to lead roles in Zach Cregger’s Weapons, those pals whispered all good things in their ears.
“People kept saying, ‘You guys are going to love each other and it’s going to be great,’” Brolin explained to The Hollywood Reporter at the film’s Los Angeles premiere last Thursday. “I got nervous then because I kept thinking, well, what if it’s not great? I’m not going to agree to work with someone just because another person tells me that I’m going to like ‘em.”
Spoiler alert: They loved each other.
“We just hit it off immediately,” Brolin said with a smile. “Like immediate cellular, sibling shit.”

So the poster for the new horror film Weapons shows a bunch of kids running down a suburban street with the ad line saying: “Last night at 2:17 am every child from Mrs. Gandy’s class woke up, got out of bed, went downstairs, opened the front door, walked into the dark … and they never came back.”
Immediately I start thinking, “Yeah, a Children of the Corn or Children of the Damned kind of riff.” But look closer at the credits and the writer-director is none other than Zach Cregger, whose debut feature film Barbarian was one of the most impressive first films, as well as horror genre entries, I had seen in years. There was just something so unique and compelling about its “house of horrors” concept that grabbed me instantly, and I have been talking about it ever since its 2022 debut, and anxiously awaiting whatever Cregger had in store for us next.

Weaponswriter and director Zach Cregger explains how Pedro Pascal derailed the whole film.
Speaking toEntertainment Weekly, Cregger discussed how both the 2023 WGA/SAG-AFTRA strikes and the complex shooting schedule of original star Pedro Pascal led to the entire film being overhauled early on in production. "I had a whole different cast for this movie. And then we had the strike, and then Pedro Pascal's schedule threw us into turmoil. I had to recast the whole movie," Cregger recalled.
Cregger began working on Weapons shortly after the success of his breakout hit horror feature Barbarian in 2022. Previously noted as being partly inspired by Paul Thomas Anderson's 1999 epic drama Magnolia, hype surrounding Weapons started roiling early on, with news breaking in May 2023 that The Fantastic Four: First Steps star Pedro Pascal had signed on for the film. After Pascal exited the feature, fan-favorite actor Josh Brolin signed on as the film's protagonist,...

June Diane Raphael turned it out Thursday night at the world premiere of her new movie “Weapons,” wearing a a pantless black tuxedo look reminiscent of Roxie Hart, the murderess ex-con turned showgirl in the Broadway musical “Chicago.”
“When you’re a part of such a big genre film and such a giant piece of performance art, it’s time to leave your pants at home,” Raphael deadpanned. “I’ve always said that, you know what I mean? It’s time to lose a major piece of clothing. (The “performance art” was a faux classroom on the red carpet inside the United Theater on Broadway in downtown Los Angeles that featured several child actors pretending to be unconscious at their desks and a couple of boys covered in creepy clown makeup.)

Julia Garner is on a roll, after the success of Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps, where she plays Shalla-Bal aka the Silver Surfer. Her next release with Barbarian director Zach Cregger, Weapons, is getting critical appreciation. While her two roles can’t be far apart, the actor’s performances are winning hearts all around as critics have spoken on Rotten Tomatoes.
Weapons has garnered a 100 percent Rotten Tomatoes score from the critics. The movie sees Garner as a school teacher investigating children going missing in the town. While it sounds like a regular supernatural horror the movie takes twists and turns unfathomable. With the resurgence of interest in the horror genre with movies like Sinners and Nosferatu, recently, fans are enjoying the diverse themes covered by new movies.
What to Expect From ‘Weapons’?
Weapons follow a fictional town that experiences a massive loss after 17 children seemingly disappear without a trace one morning.

As the years accumulate in my time as a horror critic, I’m growing unwillingly jaded when it comes to my ability to be surprised by the genre. So, when a film like Weapons springs from the shadows and has me screaming at the screen, cackling nervously, and genuinely stressed from start to finish, I can’t help but consider it something of a (bad) miracle.
Like filmmaker Zach Cregger’s previous effort, Barbarian, Weapons is joyously cruel, constantly surprising, brutally funny, and 100% cursed from top to bottom. However, where Barbarian felt like three separate films laminated together, this one is impressively unified. Even with some familiar chapter-based storytelling, it manages to deliver a single, coherent nightmare. This structure could’ve come off as gimmicky in lesser hands, but Cregger uses it with precision to amplify dread, tension, and emotional investment, one carefully calibrated segment at a time.

Ahead of its theatrical release this August, New Line Cinema’s newest supernatural horror movie Weapons has received its first reactions, teasing another massive hit for the Barbarian director Zach Cregger. Just like the acclaimed 2022 movie, Cregger is also directing from a screenplay he wrote.
As seen on social media, the first reactions to Weapons have finally arrived online from early screenings, with most critics praising Cregger’s vision and direction. On X, FilmSpeak's Griff Schiller called the movie “a horror masterpiece and the best film of the year,” while also comparing it to Denis Villeneuve and Paul Thomas Anderson movies. “It's Prisoners by way of Magnolia with some of the Coen's absurdist humor. An absolutely Brilliant commentary on the attitudes and institutions during the fallout of a communal tragedy.” He adds, “a chilling masterclass in suspense and Pov storytelling that exposes a society with dwindling empathy that tolerates dehumanizing acts.

The horror genre is already being haunted with masterpiece after masterpiece from Hollywood, and it doesn’t sound like that game will be stopping anytime soon. This is because Zach Cregger – the comedian, actor, writer, director, and producer all in one; credited for taming Barbarian – is returning to the screens with Weapons.
With him serving as the writer, producer, and director of the upcoming movie, Cregger will be joining the 2025 horror-mystery flicks ensemble with a star-studded cast – one that includes Julia Garner, and almost had onboard her Fantastic Four co-star as well, before he had to leave the movie because of the MCU: Pedro Pascal.

Writer/director Zach Cregger got a lot of positive attention for his 2022 horror film Barbarian – so much that there was an intense bidding war when studios and production companies found out he was working on another horror project called Weapons. Get Out, Us, and Nope filmmaker Jordan Peele wanted to produce the film through his company Monkeypaw, for release through Universal Pictures… but Peele was the runner-up in the competition, with the rights going to New Line Cinema. The company spent $38 million to secure Weapons as their own. That includes the film’s budget, as well as the $5 million Cregger will be getting for writing and directing it and a second $5 million for producing it alongside Vertigo’s Roy Lee and Miri Yoon, and BoulderLight’s J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules. We’ll find out how well that pays off for New Line Cinema when Weapons reaches theatres on August...

A new horror film from Barbarian director Zach Cregger is making waves after the release of its second trailer. The movie, called Weapons, puts a spotlight on a terrifying and emotional subject, the unexplained disappearance of children. While many horror stories rely on ghosts or monsters, this one focuses on real-life fears.
In the trailer, Josh Brolin plays a father desperate for answers after 17 children, all from one classroom, go missing. The trailer opens with a heated school meeting where Brolin’s character demands, “I wanna know what happened in that classroom!” His anger grows as he questions, “Why just her classroom!” Julia Garner plays the school principal who seems unsure of what’s going on as tension rises around her.
A young girl’s voice is heard in the background, giving the story a chilling twist. “This is a true story that happened right here in my town,” she says.

Zach Cregger, the filmmaker behind the hit horror movie Barbarian, is back with a brand-new scary story called Weapons. The second trailer for the movie is now out, and it doesn’t hold back. It dives right into the deep fear many people share, the fear of children going missing. This isn’t your typical horror flick with ghosts or monsters. Instead, it focuses on something that feels all too real and disturbing.
The trailer kicks off with a tense scene at a school board meeting. Josh Brolin plays a desperate father, and he’s furious. He stands up during the meeting and demands answers. “I wanna know what happened in that classroom!” he yells. That one line sets the tone for everything that follows. According to the story, 17 kids vanished, all from the same classroom in a picture-perfect, all-American town.

Talk about taboo. Zach Cregger’s second horror movie, Weapons, goes right for the jugular tapping into the sheer human fear of missing children. The second trailer, released Monday, shows more of that schoolboard meeting where Josh Brolin’s Dad character demands, “I wanna know what happened in that classroom!” — questioning why 17 kids are missing from a specific classroom at this Americana school.
“Why just her classroom!” Brolin’s character shouts. Julia Garner’s principal — well, she’s all thumbs.
A young girl’s voice-over tries to tell us why a group of kids fled their bedrooms in the middle of the night.
“This is a true story that happened right here in my town,” she says. “A lot of people die in a lot of really weird ways in this story.”
“Those kids walked out of those homes, no one pulled them out,” continues Brolin’s protag.

Warner Bros. has released a nearly two-minute trailer for Zach Cregger's latest horror film Weapons, teasing the newest nightmare from the Barbarian director. The footage debuted at the end of a "one-time-only" livestream on MaybrookMissing.com (the movie's in-universe website), offering a closer look at the chilling mystery at the center of the story, involving the disappearance of a group of children who voluntarily left their homes one night at precisely 2:17 a.m. — as evidenced in surveillance footage recorded on the date they went missing.
While the first trailer for Weaponsprovided a broad overview of the puzzling premise, the latest video (shared below) dials up the creepiness to 11 and unleashes a bunch of new footage to give prospective audiences a better idea of what to expect from Cregger's second live-action feature film. The puzzle pieces are beginning to come together, but there’s still plenty left to discover following the release of a brand-new teaser for Weapons. Taking to social media, the film’s studio, New Line Cinema, shared another clue about the madness that’s set to unfold when Zach Cregger returns for his sophomore feature-length directorial project. Starring Julia Garner (Fantastic Four), we might not see any of the other incredibly famous faces that fill out the mysterious horror thriller, but the sneak peek certainly gets us up close and personal with the Ozark alum.
Leaning into the fictional missing children’s case that has been at the center of the marketing team’s promotion for the film, the teaser shows various newspaper clippings that have all been written about the night a group of children disappeared into the dark. The excerpts walk viewers through the details of the case,...

I'm not breaking new ground when I say that Adam Scott is excellent on "Severance." This isn't a hot take; it's decidedly room-temperature. Technically, Scott plays two characters on Dan Erickson's twisted take on a "workplace comedy," even though they are the same person: Mark Scout, a miserable man who lost his wife Gemma (Dichen Lachman) in a tragic car accident, and to deal with his overwhelming grief, who takes a job at Lumon Industries that offers a procedure called "severance" that splits his consciousness into two distinct parts. When he leaves work, he's stuck being plain old Mark Scout, but at work, on the "severed" floor, he's Mark S., a willing acolyte of Lumon who has no idea that he ever had a wife, let alone lost one.
As his innie (Mark S.) and outie (Mark Scout), Scott delivers one of his very best performances; in the show's critically adored sophomore season,...

Brooklyn Decker on Towering Over Jennifer Aniston in Just Go With It
To put it in perspective, in a 2011 interview with the Sydney Morning Herald, Decker amusingly remarked on her height difference with Friends actress Jennifer Aniston, saying, “She’s [Jennifer Aniston] tiny! She’s so little, but then I’m like 5ft 9ins so I’m a giant compared to most people, but she’s so little and petite and the cutest thing”.
