Paramount+ Releases Trailer For New Music Documentary ‘Mixtape’
Julie Bowen, Jackson Rathbone, Nick Thune, Gemma Brooke Allen, Kiefer O'Reilly, and Audrey Hsieh in Mixtape (2021)
Key Art for Mixtape, streaming on Paramount+, 2023. Paramount+ announced that Mixtape, a new documentary exploring how the creation of mixtapes launched hip hop into mainstream culture, will premiere exclusively on the service Tuesday, August 1 in the U.S. and Canada and Wednesday, August 2 in the U.K., Australia, Latin America and Brazil, with further international markets to follow later in the year. Mixtape is the story of hip hop refusing to take no for an answer. Before radio play, the internet, and social media, there were mixtapes. DJs were tastemakers, trendsetters and creators of the sound that became the biggest musical genre on the planet. The importance of mixtapes goes well beyond the tapes themselves. Mixtapes were a form of currency and a signifier that someone was “in the know” and had their ear to the streets. The culture was too strong to be stopped, and the artists were too...

While the Bk institution is where boxers go to train and sharpen their knuckle game, Pap is back with a new mixtape (#24, by his count) that he insists will let heads know his verbal jabs are still sharp.

"The reason why I called the mixtape The 2nd Coming is because when I first came in the scene, I shook the ground, I had the whole industry petrified, I took a million-plus," Pap told Mixtape Daily, referring to the reportedly...

After a few false starts, Foxy Brown finally fired away at Lil' Kim with a dis track, "Massacre," targeting her fellow Brooklyn Mc. The track premiered on Thursday night on DJ Kay Slay's Hot 97 radio show. On it, Brown pulled from Jay-z's catalog, spitting her bars of fury over his "So Ghetto," to poke at the former Biggie protégé.

"First the bitch wanna hate on Foxy," she spits. "Ten years later, now she hating on Minaj, whoa."

The line referred to Lil' Kim and Nicki Minaj's war of words last year, stemming from interviews with Angie Martinez in which the female rappers lobbed barbs at one another. The two swapped dis songs as well, Kim with "Black Friday" and Nicki with "Roman's Revenge.

Jay Electronica got people heated — namely DJ Kay Slay — when he said some Southern MCs, such as Andre 3000 and Bun B, could roast cats from up North during an interview with TheMostInfluential.com last month. Electronica, ever the outspoken warrior, was very candid with the outlet.

A few minutes into the topic, the conversation shifted to Wu-Tang Clan's RZA. We all know Jay has the utmost respect for the clan from Shaolin; he shouts them out on his mixtape banger "The Ghost of Christopher Wallace." "Ted was working with Mike heavy after the success of Dangerous," Fyffe added. "He took me and one of his boys down to Neverland. Mike was working on the 'Addams Family Values' soundtrack. It was crazy that I went to the joint. We was in his movie theater."

After Riley, Fyffe went on to learn from Erick Sermon.

50 Cent has officially called out Jay-z. On Thursday night, the much hyped Beanie Sigel/ 50 Cent collaboration, "I Go Off," premiered on Philadelphia's Power 99 and New York's Hot 97, during Kay Slay's "Drama Hour."

50 Cent doesn't have a verse on the record, but for the most part keeps his mic time relegated to the hook. Meanwhile, Sigel — who slammed Jay-z on Power 99 last week — doesn't call out any names.

Confirming New Album's Title, Eminem Reveals One New Song
On an on-air interview during a launch party of his "The Way I Am" book, Eminem revealed that his sixth major studio album will be titled "Relapse". Showing much of annoyance concerning the rumor of his upcoming album, the rapper said, "Here's the deal. There's like a lot of album titles floating around out there that like, are fake album titles ... like bullshit album titles, so I was just gonna say, you know, tell everybody the real title of my album. It's coming out, it's called 'Relapse.'"

While no fixed release schedule is announced, 50 Cent, who also appeared during the interview, hinted that the Detroit rapper's album will be dropped by the end of 2008 alongside his own project "Before I Self Destruct", which will come out on December 6. "It's a story actually," he said. "'Before I Self Destruct', I'll 'Relapse', then 'Detox' (Dr. Dre)." Hosted by DJ Kayslay and Angela Yee,...
