Ncuti Gatwa to Star in Fashion Biopic 'The Queen of Fashion' Post-Doctor Who
Image
Ncuti Gatwa's next film project has officially been revealed. Gatwa is a Scottish actor who got his big break playing Eric Effiong on the well-reviewed Netflix series Sex Education. On the film side of things, he then went on to play one of the Kens in the hit 2023 movie Barbie.

Gatwa also made history when he was cast as the first Black actor to play the lead role in Doctor Who. He made his debut in the 60th anniversary specials as well as the holiday special in 2023. Following his second season on the series, however, it was announced that Gatwa would part ways with the beloved BBC series.

As per Screen Daily, Gatwa's first post-Doctor Who project has been announced. The actor will star in the movie The Queen of Fashion. The film is a biopic of Isabella Blow, the famous English fashion magazine editor. In addition to Gatwa,...

‘Doctor Who’ Star Lands First Movie Role Since His “Bittersweet” Exit
Image
After wowing fans with his beautiful performance as Eric Effiong in Sex Education, Ncuti Gatwa gained even wider acclaim as the Fifteenth Doctor in the British sci-fi hit, Doctor Who, debuting in 2023. However, his time on the show ended in May 2025 following his "bittersweet" decision to leave, with only two seasons under his belt. Now, a few months later, the actor has landed his first movie role since then, starring alongside Academy Award nominee Andrea Riseborough.

Titled The Queen of Fashion, the upcoming movie chronicles the extraordinary life of London-born Isabella Blow, a significant figure in the fashion world who will be portrayed by Riseborough. In it, viewers will get to see how the visionary fashion editor and muse became an unstoppable force shaping the fashion industry while being "surrounded by a constellation of era-defining artists, designers, and creatives." The film wrapped its UK shoot a few days ago, prompting...

Daily Actorle Solution for Today
Image
Every morning, I find myself waking up with an itch to challenge my brain, and the daily dose of puzzles from Actorle and its sister games has become the perfect remedy. There’s something oddly comforting and exciting about taking on the daily quizzes that test my pop culture memory and logical reasoning alike.

Like always, I jumped into the action with Actorle first, before moving on to Fill The Grid, the always-surprising Storyboard, and StarWords. And if you’re here for the answers, you’re in the right place. I’ve cracked them all and laid out the solutions for July 25, 2025, just below.

Actorle Solution for Today The solution for Actorle on July 25 is Steve Martin | Credit: Actorle/FandomWire

The first thing I look for in any Actorle puzzle is how long the mystery actor has been in the industry, and for July 25’s set, the actor has been in Hollywood for 44 years.

TriStar's feature-length adaptation of the global best-selling novel The Nightingale is finally back on track. A release date and director for the long-gestating project set to star Dakota and Elle Fanning have been announced.

Per Deadline, a Feb. 12, 2027 release date has been set for The Nightingale by TriStar. So far, the only competition the film has is with an untitled feature from filmmaker Benson Lee. The Feb. 12 weekend is expected to be a big one with the double holiday of Valentine’s Day and President’s Day. This marks the latest release date for The Nightingale. TriStar's previous release date attempts for the movie were for Aug. 10, 2018, Dec. 25, 2020, Dec. 22, 2021, and Dec. 23, 2022; with most of those delays attributed to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Additionally, Michael Morris has been tapped to direct The Nightingale, in what will be his third feature-length directorial effort. He made his debut with the 2022 drama film To Leslie...

Gestating for some time, the project has regained traction for the first time since the pandemic, enlisting To Leslie‘s Michael Morris to direct.

Dakota and Elle Fanning are still set to star and produce, starring together on film for the first time, having first attached to the project in 2019. Dana Stevens (The Woman King) penned the script, and Elizabeth Cantillon will produce for The Cantillon Company, alongside the Fannings and Brittany Kahan Ward for Lewellen Pictures, and Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter for Hello Sunshine. Mike Leigh
Dragonfly - Richard Mowe - 19801
Mike Leigh
Mix in a dash of Mike Leigh and a sprinkling of Hitchcock suspense and you have an approximation of the atmosphere of this odd couple tale from Paul Andrew Williams who previously gave us the noir drama London To Brighton and revenge thriller Bull.

It starts off amiably enough by describing the mundane existence of 80-year-old Elsie (Brenda Blethyn almost unrecognisable from her Vera persona) and her neighbour Colleen (Birdman’s Andrea Riseborough) who offers to help after social services fall far short.

Both women share a common bond in that they have been consigned to the fringes of society yet seem to rub along - Elsie doesn’t like to make fuss, while Colleen’s precise motives remain unclear although it’s doubtful if she is purely altruistic in her intentions.

The performances of double Oscar-nominated Blethyn and Riseborough provide hypnotic accounts of their characters as two vulnerable souls...

David Zellner in Kumiko, The Treasure Hunter (2014)
Alpha Gang alien invasion comedy casts Chris Pine, Lily-Rose Depp, & more
David Zellner in Kumiko, The Treasure Hunter (2014)
Director David Zellner has credits going back to 1997, when he made his feature directorial debut with the comedy Plastic Utopia, working from a screenplay he wrote with his brother, visual effects artist Nathan Zellner. As of the 2018 Western Damsel, the Zellner Brothers became a directing duo, and in 2020 it was announced that they were going to be making an alien invasion comedy called Alpha Gang, with Andrea Riseborough, Jon Hamm, Nicholas Hoult, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Mackenzie Davis, Sofia Boutella, and Steven Yeun attached to star in the film. But Alpha Gang missed its 2021 production start date and the Zellner Brothers made Sasquatch Sunset instead. Nine months ago, it was announced that the Zellners were circling back to Alpha Gang, and the impressive cast they originally had lined up was replaced by a different impressive bunch of actors: Cate Blanchett (Disclaimer), Dave Bautista (Knock at the Cabin), Léa Seydoux (No Time to Die...

Andrea Riseborough
All six of Connery’s ‘official’ 007 films will be screened in 4K restorations, with big names including Andrea Riseborough, Peter Dinklage and Renée Zellweger also on show

Andrea Riseborough, Peter Dinklage, Renée Zellweger and – inevitably – the late Sean Connery will be among the big names on show at the Edinburgh international film festival, which announced its programme today.

A clutch of world premieres at the festival includes a remake of trash classic The Toxic Avenger, starring Dinklage alongside Kevin Bacon, Elijah Wood and Julia Davis, while Riseborough appears opposite Brenda Blethyn in Paul Andrew Williams’s Tribeca festival hit Dragonfly. Karla Sofía Gascón Was Not Invited to Join the Academy, Bucking Tradition for Oscar Nominees
Image
Karla Sofía Gascón will not be voting for the next Best Picture winner. The Spanish actress, who was nominated this year for Best Actress for “Emilia Pérez,” was not on the list of 534 people whom the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences invited to join. Gascón’s co-star Adriana Paz, who was not nominated, was among the 2025 invitees. Their “Emilia Pérez” co-star Zoe Saldaña, who won this year for Best Supporting Actress, was already a member.

While an Oscar nomination automatically qualifies someone for Academy membership, an invitation is not a guarantee. In this case, the Actors Branch would make a recommendation and then the Academy Board of Governors has final say. But Gascón, who found herself at the center of a prolonged controversy this past winter due to the discovery of racist tweets she had previously sent, is only the second first-time Best Actress nominee from the past...

With 'F1: The Movie' Around the Corner, Joseph Kosinski's Twisty Tom Cruise Sci-Fi Thriller Has Streaming Success
Image
F1: The Movie is set to race into theaters next week, but Prime Video viewers are doing some last-minute pre-race preparations by watching one of director Joseph Kosinski's previous films. Oblivion, the science-fiction thriller Koskinski made in 2013 with Tom Cruise, has climbed up to #4 on the Prime Video charts. Oblivion was Kosinski's sophomore effort, coming three years after he made his film debut with Tron: Legacy.

Oblivion was a financial success, making $286 million Usd on a $120 million budget, although reviews were mixed. It currently holds a 53% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Collider's Matt Goldberg landed on the negative side. In his review, he criticizes the film for being "more concerned with its gorgeous visuals and rousing score while the emotions become lost in a shuffle of reveals and fragmented ideas." The film turned out to be a prelude for Kosinski and Cruise's next collaboration, Top Gun: Maverick, which busted...

‘Dragonfly’ Review: Andrea Riseborough and Brenda Blethyn Dazzle in a Bleak British Shocker
Image
It’s always risky to mix genres, but some movies pull off the trick with more skill than others. Dragonfly, which had its world premiere this week in Tribeca, starts as an intimate character drama, with two Oscar-nominated British actresses — Brenda Blethyn and Andrea Riseborough — at the top of their game. (They were given a joint acting award by one of the juries at the festival.) Paul Andrew Williams’ movie unfolds at a fairly leisurely but rewarding pace until an event occurs that unhinges one of the characters and turns the movie closer to the horror genre, with a blood-splattered finale. Reactions will surely be mixed about this surprise tonal shift, but there is no doubt that the film sticks in the memory.

Blethyn plays Elsie, an elderly woman living in a drab housing complex and tended to by caregivers who do the bare minimum to meet her needs. Her...

Tribeca Review: Dragonfly is a Haunting Mike Leigh-Inspired Thriller
Image
A challenging film to both review and market without spoiling, Paul Andrew Williams’ Dragonfly largely succeeds because it never quite telegraphs where it’s going until its third act. My thoughts are with the distributor that eventually picks up this film and has to decide what kind of trailer to cut for a work that largely spends its runtime as a straightforward social-realist story centered on the loneliness of neighbors. Those familiar with the output of writer-director Williams (including Bull and London to Brighton) will know better than to expect a traditional drama about working-class England in the vein of contemporary Mike Leigh and Ken Loach––even if Williams certainly can pull it off as well as those masters for his first half.

Of course, excellent casting helps, and Dragonfly works well because of the sympathetic performance of its leads, including the great Brenda Blethyn (perhaps best-known stateside for her...

Dragonfly Review: Two Stunning Performances in a Flawed Story
Image
In the quiet landscape of suburban Britain, where identical bungalows stand shoulder to shoulder, director Paul Andrew Williams’ Dragonfly opens not with a bang, but with a profound silence. We meet two women living lives that are mirror images of solitude.

In one home is Elsie (Brenda Blethyn), an elderly widow whose days are measured by the impersonal visits of agency nurses. She’s not a person; she’s a checklist of duties—bathed, fed, left alone. Her existence has become a sterile routine. Next door, separated by a single wall, lives Colleen (Andrea Riseborough), a much younger woman whose isolation is more feral.

Guarded and reclusive, her only real companion is Sabre, her enormous bull terrier. She is a ghost in her own life, a fringe dweller in a world that has largely forgotten her. The film lets us sit in their loneliness until a simple offer to fetch...

An Adult Swim Writer Wrote A Defining Part Of A Twisted Nicolas Cage Movie
Image
In Panos Cosmatos' psychedelic 2018 heavy-metal horror cult/revenge epic "Mandy," the laconic lumberjack Red (Nicolas Cage) lives in connubial bliss with his beloved girlfriend Mandy (Andrea Riseborough) in a remote cabin way out in the middle of the Oregonian woods. They spend their days listening to music and staring lovingly at one another. Rather suddenly, though, their idyll is interrupted by a local religious cult, led by the drugged-out, sex-crazed Jeremiah Sand (Linus Roach). Jeremiah is convinced that he is an actual messiah after years of taking hallucinogens and seems to have access to legitimately supernatural demonic bikers (who look like trashier versions of the cenobites from "Hellraiser"). Jeremiah kidnaps Mandy and tries to convince her to be one of his concubines. When she laughs at his naked body, Jeremiah gets mad and burns her alive while Red watches. Everything is bleak and bloody and terrible.

"Mandy" is a stylish,...

‘Dragonfly’ Review: Andrea Riseborough And Brenda Blethyn Give Wings To Paul Andrew Williams’ Poignant Neighborhood Drama – Tribeca Film Festival
Image
Paul Andrew Williams’s feature debut was called London to Brighton (2006), but the British director has never been much interested in capital cities. His latest, Dragonfly, is another example of this, being a dark, low-key drama about the ways in which the unnoticed lives of suburban people can make surprising headlines. In a direct way, it’s a sister piece to his provocative 2010 home invasion film Cherry Tree Lane, in which—pre-empting Adolescence—a middle-class couple’s humdrum live is turned upside down when they are inexplicably attacked by violent teenage rebels without any apparent cause.

In reality, though—and despite the blood spilt both onscreen and off—it turns out to be more like the film Williams made in 2012. Called Song for Marion, it starred Terence Stamp as an emotionally shut-down widower who joins a choir to pay homage to his late wife (Vanessa Redgrave). It wasn’t a commercial success,...

Brenda Blethyn at an event for Pride & Prejudice (2005)
Dragonfly review – haunting, genre-defying drama of lonely city living
Brenda Blethyn at an event for Pride & Prejudice (2005)
Tribeca film festival, New York

Brenda Blethyn and Andrea Riseborough, along with a very alarming dog, are superb as two neighbours thrown together by their neglected circumstances

Twenty years ago, Paul Andrew Williams announced himself as a smart new British talent with his ferocious gangland picture London to Brighton, and his creativity has continued in film and TV ever since. His new film is a haunted, social-realist drama with elements of Mike Leigh but also moments of thriller and even horror. Williams isn’t shy of stabbing us with an old-fashioned jump scare towards the end, which in fact challenges the audiences with its refusal of categorisation. There are two superb lead performances from Andrea Riseborough and Brenda Blethyn and an outstanding supporting turn from Jason Watkins.

Dragonfly is about loneliness and alienation and about the eternal mystery of other people, the fear of intimacy and the unknowable existence of urban neighbours.

Every ‘Black Mirror’ Episode, Ranked (Including Season 7)
Image
The world has changed a lot since “Black Mirror” premiered in 2011; mostly as the lines between fact and fiction blur. The sci-fi show from Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones became shorthand for our bleakest and most dystopic realities, whether that was a caricature rising to the highest office in the nation, technology used to monitor and manipulate human behavior, or alternate realities and artificial intelligence.

With Season 7 now on Netflix — after the questionable prescience and potency of Season 6 — IndieWire is updating our ranking of every installment. Comparing episodes of an anthology series like this one is inherently tricky, even if there is a certain “We’re all doomed” throughline present in most..

Arranging the episodes by quality also doesn’t guarantee the ideal viewing order, but IndieWire’s list naturally punctures defeatism with hope. We don’t recommend binge-viewing, but if you want to journey back through “Black Mirror,” allow...
