Netflix's New The Handmaid's Tale-Like Crime Drama Show Climbs Streaming Charts Days After Release

Netflix's new Handmaid's Tale-like series, Baby Farm, has climbed the Top 10 TV charts days after its debut. Arriving on June 20, the Nigerian drama series follows a pregnant woman named Adanna (Onyinye Odokoro), who discovers a sinister baby farm operation, where women are exploited and forced to have babies on demand, drawing comparison to the Elisabeth Moss-led Hulu series. Baby Farm's cast of characters also includes Folu Storms as Joy, Jenny Stead as Sister Barb, Langley Kirkwood as Doctor Evans, and Uzoamaka Onuoha as Comfort.

According to FlixPatrol, Baby Farm is the no.5 top TV show on streaming today, only three days after its debut. It's ranked behind Justin Willman: Magic Lover at no.4 and Ginny & Georgia at no.3, with Kevin Williamson's The Waterfront currently at the top of the chart. Meanwhile, the series is followed by Sirens, Animal Kingdom, Blindspot, and Tires.

Netflix’s has unveiled a slate of female-led African projects to coincide with International Women’s Month.

EbonyLife TV boss Mo Abudu will exec produce Baby Farm, a series following Adanna, a young pregnant woman, unknowingly entrusts her unborn twins to a high-profile Ngo, only to discover she’s become a prisoner of a sinister baby farm.

Rita Dominic leads a cast that includes Joseph Benjamin, Onyinye Odokoro, Genoveva Umeh, Langley Kirkwood and Jenny Stead.

Hamisha Daryani Ahuja produces and helms another scripted project, Postcards, following four Nigerians in India discovering their identity through a journey of self-discovery.

Period feature House of Ga’a comes from Bolanle Austen-Peters, who directs and produces. Set in 18th century old Oyo Empire, the film biopic is based on real events and the story of Bashorun Ga’a, a feared prime minister and kingmaker.

Netflix is backing three projects from women filmmakers in Nigeria and Africa including the series Baby Farm, executive produced by EbonyLife’s Mo Abudu.

The series follows a pregnant woman who becomes entrapped in a high-profile but sinister Ngo called Baby Farm and must work to save herself and her fellow captives.

Nigerian Historic Epic ‘Elesin Oba’ to Become First Yoruba-Language Movie to Premiere at TIFF

Netflix historical drama “Elesin Oba, The King’s Horseman,” will become the first Yoruba-language film to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Produced by Mo Abudu’s EbonyLife Films and Netflix, the film — which will play in the Special Presentations section — is based on real-life events in Nigeria in 1943, and set in the Oyo Empire, in which the King’s horseman, Elesin Oba, must commit ritual suicide to follow his deceased king into the afterlife.

However, his best intentions are derailed by his sexual desires, which leads to catastrophic consequences and ends in a deadly clash with the British rulers of the day. The horseman is unable to fulfil his ultimate commitment to the king, leaving his spirit to roam the earth, spelling doom for the land and its people.
