Let the Devil In is a haunting and mysterious four-episode documentary series about a decades-old tragedy that destroyed one family and ignited the darkest fears of a small New Jersey town.

Danielle Franco directed the series and is the showrunner. The producers include Anike Niemeyer, Kevin Vargas, William Acks, and Trey Nelson.

The executive producers include Eli Roth, Branden Morgan, Anneka Jones, Jill Burkhart, Ken Druckerman, Banks Tarver, Rod Blackhurst, Dirk Hoogstra, and Nicole Sorrenti.

The 2025 awards season may still be a few weeks from its final hurrah, but it’s already had an impact on the film industry as buyers and sellers prepare to congregate once more at the European Film Market in Berlin.
With a lineup of Oscar frontrunners that includes “The Brutalist,” “Anora,” “The Substance” and “Emilia Pérez” — coupled with some impressive box office figures that look only set to grow — this year’s race has highlighted the desire of cinemagoers for bold, director-driven, out-of-the-ordinary fare.
“When you look at ‘Emilia Pérez’ and ‘I’m Still Here’ and ‘The Substance,’ those films are unique, they told some of the best stories and bring a unique perspective on something,” said Scott Shooman, head of AMC Networks’ Film Group which encompasses IFC Films.
For Shooman, the EFM is exactly the place where international buyers respond to these types of packages — led by creatively minded directors.

Rod Blackhurst directed many short films and some music videos before he made his feature directorial debut with the post-apocalyptic horror film Here Alone. Since then, he has worked on Amanda Knox and John Wayne Gacy documentaries, as well as the Will Smith series Welcome to Earth, and directed the crime thriller Blood for Dust. Now, Variety reports that he’s moving ahead with a dystopian creature feature called Die by Night, and he has gathered a cast for the film that includes Isabelle Fuhrman of the Orphan franchise, Ben Hardy (Bohemian Rhapsody), and Scoot McNairy (Nightbitch).
Blackhurst is set to direct Die by Night from a screenplay he wrote himself, with Variety noting that the script is based on a prequel screenplay he wrote with J. Hunter Richardson that’s called The Chosen Few. So if Die by Night is successful, maybe we’ll see Blackhurst make the prequel The Chosen Few as well.

While we wait for Orphan 3, which was officially announced last November, franchise star Isabelle Fuhrman has set up her next project. Fuhrman will star in the thriller Die by Night.
Variety details this afternoon that Ben Hardy and Scoot McNairy will also star in the dystopian movie.
The outlet also reports, “The feature is being launched by Protagonist Pictures ahead of the upcoming EFM in Berlin. Protagonist is handling international sales while UTA Independent Film Group is representing North American rights.”
Die by Night is set over the course of one night in a world where “the only way to survive to see a new day is to trust each other and stay in the light until you make it to The Wall.”
Creatures known as The Horde hunt down surviving humans in the dark in the film’s post-apocalyptic world, where long stretches of darkness plunge the world into chaos.

Director Rod Blackhurst makes a credible attempt at a sharply scripted noir about a travelling salesman turned drug runner
Giving heavy credence to blokes of a certain age – and likely targeted at them too – this noir thriller lands squarely in Coen brothers territory and does a creditable job holding its own there. Set in the mid-90s and starring character actor Scoot McNairy as veteran salesman Cliff, flogging defibrillators on the north-western stretch of the Interstate 90, it packs just enough of a sociological load in the chamber to break open the American sternum.
Cliff’s cardiological gig flatlines when his buyers catch wind of his involvement in a scam at a previous job which resulted in the suicide of an accomplice. Unable to find more work, he falls back in with running buddy Ricky, who recruits him for the local cocaine racket. Read the exacting T&c with his face...

Released in January, the horror movie Night Swim was not embraced by critics, as it was heavily panned upon arrival. Several months later, the approved film has become a hit on streaming.
Per FlixPatrol, Night Swim is currently ranking at No. 7 on the Top 10 Movies streaming chart for Prime Video. The movie getting a second life on streaming comes after horror mastermind Stephen King shared his praise for the movie back in March. At the time, King noted how much he "loved" the film, going so far as to compare it to the early works of Steven Spielberg leading up to Jaws. It was a strong endorsement, providing Night Swim with a big win after initially getting pummeled by the critics with a Rotten Tomatoes score of just 20%.
I loved The Night Swim (Amazon Prime). It's like a lost, low-budget Steven Spielberg film from Spielberg's early period...say, after Duel but before Jaws.

Following the movie's disappointing theatrical run, Night Swim finds itself climbing the streaming charts. Based on the short film of the same name from Bryce McGuire and Rod Blackhurst, the former of whom would write and direct the feature-length effort, the 2024 movie centered on a former baseball player and his family moving into a new home, only to discover their backyard pool is home to a malevolent entity. Led by Wyatt Russell and Kerry Condon, Night Swim was largely panned by critics and only a modest financial success, grossing $54.7 million against its $15 million production budget.
Now, just shy of eight months after the movie hit theaters, Night Swim is finding success on Prime Video. The Blumhouse film, which saw a generally favorable review from iconic horror author Stephen King, briefly held the No. 10 position on the streaming platform's Top 10 in the US chart. Writer-director Rod Blackhurst has wrapped production in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on horror film “Dolly.”
Blackhurst is the Emmy and Critics Choice nominated director and producer of Netflix original documentary “Amanda Knox” and the Tribeca Festival audience award-winning “Here Alone.” “Dolly” follows his acclaimed crime-thriller “Blood for Dust,” which premiered at Tribeca and won the narrative competition award at San Diego.
“Dolly,” described by the filmmakers as a blend of New French Extremity and 1970s American horror, follows Macy, a young woman abducted by a deranged, monster-like figure who wants to raise her as their child.
The cast includes Fabianne Therese (“John Dies at the End”), Seann William Scott (“American Pie”), Ethan Suplee (“Babylon”), Russ Tiller (“Blood for Dust”) and Michalina Scorzelli (“Shoplifters of the World”). From director Rod Blackhurst, working off a dynamite script he wrote with David Ebeltoft, Blood for Dust has been described as "Breaking Bad meets Fargo" by Variety. Not too far off, and a number of gritty neo-noir classics might also come to mind as you watch lead actor Scoot McNairy simply nail the protagonist role of Cliff, an everyman salesman who gets in too deep while trying to earn a buck amid desperate times. Aren't we all?
Taking us back to the 1990s, specifically in the tri-state area of the U.S., Blood for Dust features consistently solid performances and a thought-provoking statement about how low we might sink to make a dollar and provide for our families. We've seen this kind of story play out before, but the universal themes of economic hardship and great cast make this worth watching.

Kit Harington seemed to be heading down a route of heroic roles thanks to the reported Jon Snow spin-off continuing his Game of Thrones journey, and his potential appearance as Black Knight in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now neither of those roles is certain, and for Harington, that is good because he finds playing heroes with morals “f*cking hard.”
Harington’s new role in the movie, Blood for Dust, sees him playing the villainous character of Ricky, which is a world away from his most iconic roles. While speaking to Entertainment Weekly about the movie, he explained how playing Ricky, a ruthless arms dealer entangled in illegal activities across the tri-state area, is exactly the kind of role he has been looking for.
"That is seemingly what I've been hunting a bit. If I look at the roles I've taken since playing an out-and-out hero in Game of Thrones,...

Kit Harington is very well known for portraying the Game of Thrones character Jon Snow, one of the most recognizable heroes in pop culture. The actor is now eager to take on playing much more dastardly characters, feeling that the more "f***ed up" might be, the better.
In his new film, Blood for Dust, Harington plays a villain named Ricky, and the actor spoke with Entertainment Weekly about how he rarely gets the opportunity to "play the Rickys of this world, the antagonistic dirtbag types." The Eternals actor, who also plays Black Knight in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, addressed how he's now gravitating toward more villainous roles, admitting that it's much more difficult to effectively play the hero.

Cliff (Scoot McNairy) is a struggling salesman, with employers closing doors on him like there’s no tomorrow. Through a chance encounter, he reconnects with old friend Ricky (Kit Harington), who now is a drugs runner across Montana. With Cliff in dire straits, the two agree to team up, prompting even more danger than they could ever have imagined.
Without even getting into its nuances — or at least, finer details — Blood For Dust can be best summed up as an inoffensive movie that we’ve definitely seen before. However, that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Harking back to the black comedy vibe of Fargo, merely replacing the comedy element with the Midwestern gritty violence of Yellowstone, the movie well knows what it is. Most importantly, it knows where it is.

Blood for Dust seemingly tries to mimic Fargo but lacks its depth and entertainment value. The film's story is forgettable, and the ending can be predicted early on. The cast, including Kit Harington, is Blood for Dust's strongest aspect.
Blood for Dust is meant to evoke Fargo vibes, but it fails to live up to the 1996 Academy Award-winning movie and will likely be forgotten by most. The action crime thriller, directed by Rod Blackhurst, depicts a struggling traveling salesman haunted by a crime from his past who decides to get his hands even dirtier once he becomes desperate for money. However, the film, which premiered at 2023's Tribeca Film Festival (and is far from one of the best action movies in 2023), falls short of making the audience care about the protagonist (or any of the characters).

You can tell they shot Blood for Dust outside. People’s cold breath hangs in the wintry air, and it’s not the kind of wispy CGI breath that never seems to move quite right. Half-melted snow clings to the streets and straw-yellow Montana hills. The film’s title and poster would blend right into a direct-to-video lineup, but director Rod Blackhurst brings surprising texture and craft to bear on the otherwise familiar proceedings of this ’90s-set noir.
In a rare lead role, dependable and charismatic character actor Scoot McNairy plays Cliff, a traveling salesman whose tired eyes give away his success on the job. Maybe he was persuasive once, but he’s now tough to imagine peddling anything to anyone, much less the defibrillators that he crams into the back of his station wagon alongside the dummy he uses to demonstrate them. He even botches an attempt to blackmail...

Kit Harington trades swords for guns in Blood for Dust, showcasing his villainous yet likable side. Harington drew inspiration for Ricky from a detailed backstory, including childhood neglect and a penchant for cop TV shows. Harington praises director Rod Blackhurst's meticulous planning and knowledge of the underworld, as well as his costar Scoot McNairy's laidback approach.
Kit Harington's new movie Blood for Dust sees him taking up guns instead of swords, as he teams up with True Detective's Scoot McNairy for a drug run that will change their lives. Helmed by Rod Blackhurst and with a screenplay by David Ebeltoft, Blood for Dust follows a traveling salesman named Cliff (McNairy) who foregoes his attempt at a "good" life in favor of rejoining his partner Ricky (Harington) on a dangerous mission.

Harington became a household name playing Jon Snow in Game of Thrones, but he has since branched out into other genres.

HBO is still in the “Game of Thrones” business, just not with Jon Snow. One of the earliest spinoffs from the hit fantasy drama was set to be about Kit Harington’s young leader, but the actor told ScreenRant that this project is not actively in development.
“Currently, it’s off the table, because we all couldn’t find the right story to tell that we were all excited about enough,” he said while promoting Rod Blackhurst’s “Blood for Dust,” releasing April 19. “So, we decided to lay down tools with it for the time being. There may be a time in the future where we return to it, but at the moment, no. It’s firmly on the shelf.”
The studio has its hands full of “Thrones” worldbuilding, including the hit prequel series “House of the Dragon,” which returns for Season 2 in June, and the upcoming “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight...

In 2014, directors Bryce McGuire and Rod Blackhurst gave us a modest (clocking in at just three minutes) short film that sees a woman tormented by paranormal beings while swimming in her backyard pool. Not a lot happens, but it’s still an effectively frightening short, full of shadow play, distorted views, and the seemingly endless abyss of water. Like Skinamarink that would follow years later, 2014's Night Swim capitalized on a childhood irrational fear that many have shared. Is there something lying at the bottom of the pool, waiting for us to dive deeper so it can grab our leg and drag us down with them? It makes absolutely no sense, but when do fears ever play into our rationality?...

Night Swim premiered in theaters on January 5, 2024, marking Blumhouse's first major release of the year. Despite mixed reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, the horror movie made $53 million at the box office. The studio delayed the streaming release until April 5, 2024, when Night Swim became available on Peacock.

Kit Harington and Scoot McNairy play old friends who reunite under dangerous circumstances in the first trailer for crime thriller Blood for Dust.
The Avenue is set to release director Rod Blackhurst’s feature in select theaters and on digital platforms April 19 following its premiere at last year’s Tribeca Festival. Josh Lucas and Stephen Dorff also star in Blood for Dust, which tells the story of Cliff (McNairy), a traveling salesman with financial issues who becomes enveloped in the world of drug trafficking after reuniting with Ricky (Harington).
“I don’t sell products that sell themselves,” Harington says in the trailer. This leads McNairy to respond, “You’re an arms dealer who sells drugs, Ricky.”
Blackhurst (Here Alone) helmed the film from a script by David Ebeltoft. Ryan Winterstern, Bernard Kira, Petr Jákl, Ari Novak, Arun Kumar, Bobby Campbell, Nathan Klingher, Mark Fasano and Noah Lang serve as producers.

Night Swim, based on a viral short film, marks the first collaboration between Atomic Monster and Blumhouse Productions since their merger. Despite low box office numbers, Night Swim is not a financial disaster due to its modest production cost. Night Swim is intended to be a chilling supernatural horror flick, but its scares often come across as unintentionally hilarious. The film, helmed by first-time director Bryce McGuire and produced by Jason Blum and James Wan, explores the haunting origins of a spring-fed pool. Despite its attempts to tap into primal fears (and its impressive cast), Night Swim falls short of delivering genuine scares — and unintentionally takes on a campy, cult-classic tone.

Universal, Blumhouse and co-producer James Wan took us for a Night Swim in theaters over the weekend, with the Bryce McGuire-directed horror movie becoming the genre’s very first theatrical release of the new year. Was it a strong start for the horror genre, you ask?
Night Swim debuted in 3,250 theaters across the United States over the weekend, opening to $12 million domestically. Worldwide, the film scared up $17.6 million in its debut.
Here’s the day-to-day breakdown here in the United States:
Friday, January 5: $5,250,000 Saturday, January 6: $4,180,000 Sunday, January 7: $2,570,000
For the sake of comparison, Blumhouse’s M3GAN was released in January of last year, and the viral appeal of the title character drove the film to a $30 million domestic opening. Granted, nobody in their right mind expected Night Swim to perform the way M3GAN did.

Night Swim director Bryce McGuire wants to develop a sequel someday, as hinted by the movie's ending and an Easter egg. Night Swim is headed for a domestic opening of $12.5 million from 3,250 theaters, good enough for a second-place weekend finish behind Wonka.
The Universal movie, from horror maestros Jason Blum and James Wan, is the only new wide release this weekend as the post-holiday doldrums begin. The pic won the Friday race with $5.2 million, including $1.5 million in previews.
If estimates hold, Night Swim will come in slightly ahead of expectations despite scathing reviews and a C CinemaScore from audiences, although it won’t come anywhere near to matching the $30.4 million opening of Universal and Blumhouse’s M3GAN on the same weekend a year ago.
Directed by Bryce McGuire, Night Swim is adapted from a 2014 short film he made in collaboration with Rod Blackhurst. The 98-minute movie begins with flashback of a young girl who meets an unfortunate end when she attempts to retrieve a mysterious toy boat from her backyard swimming pool.

The high concept supernatural thriller Night Swim is out in theaters now, plunging a family into an aquatic nightmare thanks to a haunted swimming pool. It also happens to be based on a 2014 short film of the same name by Rod Blackhurst and Bryce McGuire, and you can watch it right now.
When speaking with McGuire ahead of Night Swim‘s theatrical release, the filmmaker said of the short’s inspiration, “The short was really just Rod Blackhurst and I hanging out in a pool one night and being like, ‘Remember when you were a kid, and you got freaked out because you couldn’t see the bottom anymore?’ And you thought that something was beneath you. It was like, ‘Yeah, I still feel that.’ Then, ‘Let’s see if we can capture that in a short amount of time, in a short format.’”

If horror history has taught us anything, it's that we should fear the water. From 1954's Creature From the Black Lagoon to 1975's Jaws to modern-day classics like The Shallows and the sinister water bed scene in The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, one thing is clear: water is spooky. Universal Pictures's newest horror, Night Swim, follows the story of a family who is terrorized by an evil spirit that seems to come from the swimming pool of their new home. The movie is co-written by Bryce McGuire and Rod Blackhurst, who are expanding their 2014 short film Night Swim into a full-length feature. The original short was only five minutes long and was filmed in the backyard of musician Michelle Branch. Not only did McGuire and Blackhurst draw inspiration from Creature From the Black Lagoon and Jaws, but also 1955's The Night of the Hunter and 1989's The Abyss.

The 98-minute film is about a haunted pool, which has left some reviewers with their heads in their hands. “And when the most chilling line in a movie is ‘There’s something wrong with that pool!’ it’s all too easy to imagine the barbs on a future episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000,” writes The Hollywood Reporter critic Frank Scheck.
Fortunately for the filmmakers, horror fans don’t necessarily pay attention to reviews.

What To Watch This Weekend Till January, 7th 2024 ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
Much like its predecessor, this week leaves audiences craving that elusive spark of innovation in the ever-evolving landscape of cinematic offerings. A notable absence of animated content is a stark reality, but fear not, for the enigmatic allure of mystery thrillers takes center stage. Amidst the somewhat lackluster releases, Sky Cinema treats us to a comedic escape with “Arthur’s Whisky,” a film exclusively available through subscription. At the same time, the rest of the streaming lineup demands a commitment of a different kind – the decision to purchase or rent.
However, before the disappointment, let’s pivot to the silver lining in serialized storytelling. Netflix beckons us with the binge-worthy allure of “Fool Me Once,” offering a glimmer of hope amid the scarcity. Meanwhile, stalwarts like “Fargo” and “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” continue to grace our screens with fresh episodes,...

You know might feel really great, and completely relaxing, after surviving the often stressful end-of-the-year holidays? Why a refreshing dip in the pool of course! Oh, but you’re not near an indoor facility, so you’ll have to wait out the long frigid winter until the temps are near ninety or so. Well, how about making a virtual splash at the multiplex? And this “cement pond” doesn’t shut down with the sunset. But doing “laps” alone in the fluorescent lit waters can be pretty spooky. And that’s the inspiration for the first new horror flick of 2024, which may just make you “swear off” any notions about taking a Night Swim. Marco…Marco…
This tale of soggy terror begins with a flashback to the early 1990s. Late one night a girl of eight or nine spies her ailing brother’s motorboat doing circles in the deep end of the family pool.

Ready to take a “Night Swim?”
“Night Swim” is the story of a young couple (played by Wyatt Russell and Kerry Condon), who move, with their family, into a new house. One of the biggest draws of this new house? The oversized swimming pool in the back yard. (Russell’s character has a degenerative disease; he thinks the pool will help.) Of course, soon after moving in they start to notice that the pool is exhibiting some alarming tendencies. Yes, this pool is haunted.
It’s the perfect movie for people who get unnecessarily freaked out when they wade into the deep end, who wonder what is lurking in the shadowy corner of the pool or who have ever read the Chuck Palahniuk short story “Guts” (don’t look it up – it made people puke). And it’s the perfect subject for a horror movie, uncannily turning an everyday space...

January is here. That’s the time when studios will traditionally and unceremoniously dump movies in which they don’t have a lot of confidence. That usually includes a lot of horror movies. But last year, January gave us such well-received offerings as M3GAN, Knock at the Cabin, and Skinamarink. So, what does this January have in store for us? We shall see. First up – the new Blumhouse Studios movie Night Swim.
Night Swim is about a former baseball player named Ray Waller (Overlord’s Wyatt Russell) who is suffering from Multiple Sclerosis. Along with his wife Eve (Kerry Condon from The Banshees of Inisherin) and kids Izzy (Amélie Hoeferle from The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes) and Elliot (Fear the Walking Dead’s Gavin Warren), he seems to find...

Expanding a horror short to feature length is tricky work, particularly when the short in question gets straight to the scares. Writer/Director Bryce McGuire’s 2014 short Night Swim, a collaboration with Rod Blackhurst, cut straight to the horror to exploit everyone’s worst fears about swimming pools. Almost a full decade later, McGuire’s feature expansion showcases more ways to mine terror from the aquatic concept, buoyed by a great cast, but a familiar formula and simplified mythology threaten to sink it all.
After a cold open demonstrates the dangers of the film’s haunted location, a seemingly benign anywhere America backyard pool, Night Swim introduces the ill-fated family destined to discover the supernatural treachery awaiting them. The Waller family are at the beginning of a new chapter in their lives; a recent degenerative illness diagnosis cut a professional baseball career short for dad Ray Waller (Wyatt Russell). As...
