Bobby Lee Heads To San Diego Comic-Con To Unveil First Graphic Novel ‘Deadweight’
Image
Exclusive: Comedian, actor and podcaster Bobby Lee (Mad TV) is at San Diego Comic-Con to unveil his first graphic novel, Deadweight.

From Gungnir Publishing, the comic is created by Lee, Gungnir founder Matthew Medney, and Steve Orlando (Spider-Man 2099). The team describes it as “a genre-blending trip that mashes Bruce Lee, John Wick, and Scott Pilgrim into one berserk rampage through a haunted apartment tower filled with possessed neighbors, chainsaw freaks, and satanic raver armies”.

In the book, a washed-up dishwasher named Bobby Lee discovers a cursed katana in the mop closet of his decaying high-rise – just as the building’s residents transform into a blender-wielding death cult. What follows is a floor-by-floor descent into madness as Bobby battles bloodthirsty perverts, demonic flash mobs, and hallucinogenic suburban nightmares, all while trying to figure out if he’s meant to be the hero… or just the last guy standing.

Lee will attend...

Fantastic Four Unleashes the Ultimate Form of Reed and Sue's Son, Franklin Richards
Image
Warning: Spoilers ahead for Fantastic Four #32!

The most powerful superhero in the Marvel Universe, Franklin Richards of the Fantastic Four, just unlocked his ultimate form, as he has used his god-like abilities to transform into the Fantastic Four’s greatest villain, Galactus. While it’s true Reed Richards and Sue Storm’s son has taken the form of the Devourer of Worlds, Franklin Richards' version of the cosmic giant is already proving to be vastly more powerful.

In Fantastic Four #32, written by Ryan North, with art by Cory Smith, the Fantastic Four have messed with the fabric of time, trying to restore Ben Grimm’s powers, subsequently creating a reality where the Fantastic Four never received enough radiation to gain their powers. Valeria Richards awakens in this reality, where her superhero parents are completely normal; yet, she soon realizes that her brother, Franklin Richards, is Galactus and the world’s only hero.

Please Welcome The Fantastic Four! Check Out The Brand New Trailer For The Fantastic Four: First Steps And First Look At Shalla-Bal/Silver Surfer
Image
Showcasing Marvel’s First Family, Silver Surfer, H.E.R.B.I.E. and the retro-futuristic, 1960s vibe of Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four: First Steps, a new trailer and poster have arrived.

Opening in theaters July 25, Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four: First Steps introduces Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm/Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm/Human Torch Joseph Quinn) and Ben Grimm/The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) as they face their most daunting challenge yet.

Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). And if Galactus’ plan to devour the entire planet and everyone on it weren’t bad enough, it suddenly gets very personal.

The action adventure also stars Paul Walter Hauser, John Malkovich, Natasha Lyonne and Sarah Niles. Fantastic Four:...

I Can't Believe the Dark Change DC Just Made to a Justice League Icon's Power (& It's Permanent!)
Image
Warning: Spoilers for Wonder Woman #13Of all the Justice League's heroes, I've always been particularly fond of Plastic Man and Elongated Man due to the zaniness of their powers. Their rubber-like abilities appear identical on the surface, but they have plenty of differences, and that has never been more apparent than now. Plastic Man just unveiled a surprisingly dark side effect of his powers that will forever change the way I see this Justice League icon.

In Wonder Woman #13 by Tom King, Tony S. Daniels, Leonardo Paciarotti, and Clayton Cowles, Wonder Woman and Robin team up with Steve Trevor to infiltrate Amanda Waller's prison to free the depowered superheroes she's imprisoned there. Among the heroes they break out are Plastic Man and Elongated Man, both of whom have lost their stretchy powers after the events of Absolute Power. When Elongated Man makes a comment about how punching hurts...

For the past decade, Phillips has been integral in supporting established and emerging creatives to develop and sell their projects. In April 2018, Phillips joined forces with visual artist Hebru Brantley to launch Angry Hero, an IP-centric production company built around Brantley’s flagship character, Flyboy. At Angry Hero, Phillips set up a slate of features at Netflix, Amazon MGM, Warner Bros. Animation, Lionsgate, and a TV pilot at Starz with Spt, leading to a first-look deal with Chernin Entertainment. Phillips also produced Erax, a short film for Netflix as part of their Emerging Filmmaker Initiative, as well as Wondery’s viral true crime Podcast Over My Dead Body: Fox Lake.

Loki's Most Powerful Variant is a Mutant, Not a God
Image
Earth-9997 reveals a tragic and powerful mutant version of Loki who transforms himself to set things right in Asgard. Earth X series explores an alternate universe where humanity gains superpowers and the gods of Asgard are manipulated by Celestials. Loki discovers the truth about Asgardians and embraces Thor as an ally, ultimately choosing to define himself as a new version of Thor and embodying love and heroism.

While the McU's Loki introduced fans to many variants of the God of Lies from across the multiverse, it didn't touch on one of the most tragic, and most powerful, versions from Marvel's many alternate realities. But rather than being a true god, the Loki of Earth-9997 was revealed to be an incredibly powerful mutant. One who discovered the lie at the core of Asgard and underwent a number of staggering transformations in order to set things right.

Fantastic Four's Most Extreme Redesign Solves the Mystery of Their Powers
Image
The Fantastic Four's powers were gained through a space accident and are tied to specific elements in the Timeslip Universe, which they control and use to save the world. Timeslip redefines the origin of the Fantastic Four, making their space mission an act of heroism rather than curiosity and exploration. The Fantastic Four's abilities are defined by their representation of major elements and their need to work together, but their powers also have the potential for great destruction.

The Fantastic Four gained their abilities through a freak accident during a space excursion planned by Reed Richards. However, the nature of their powers has always been somewhat of a mystery, as it permanently altered them in a way that could neither be fully explained nor reversed (much to the Thing's dismay). Marvel's Timeslip universe brings clarity to the nature of their powers, quite literally, as they each call upon...

DC's Darkest Superman Theory Explains Why He's Weak to Kryptonite (Not Radiation)
Image
One theory regarding Superman's vulnerability to kryptonite makes his infamous Achilles' heel much more dark. An iconic villain suggests there's more to the Man of Steel's greatest weakness than mere radiation.

Superman is one of the most powerful heroes in the DC Universe, but even someone as strong as him has his weak spots. Despite Clark's godlike power, the hero can be easily weakened by just a small sliver of kryptonite, aka pieces of his home world, Krypton. There are several versions of kryptonite, each with its own deadly twist. But whether they mutate Superman, rob him of his powers, or simply cause him pain, the radioactive space rocks make Clark's life a living hell. Of course, due to their irradiated nature, kryptonite is also dangerous to humans. But for Superman, the presence of kryptonite is a matter of life and death.

Kryptonite Harms Superman Because it Channels the...

"I Want You To Kill Me": Green Lantern's Ring Has a Hidden Power That's Basically Torture
Image
The Green Lantern Power Ring's safety protocols prevent wearers from killing themselves, but this can be a flaw and cause immense suffering for some. The ring's AI is designed to keep wearers alive at all costs, but it fails to address the emotional and psychological struggles of certain Green Lanterns. While the ring's safety features are important, more comprehensive assistance and support should be provided to Green Lanterns experiencing anguish or suicidal thoughts.

Warning. Mentions of attempted suicide ahead.

The Green Lantern Power Ring has a surprising feature that is harming certain wearers. One member of the Corps reveals how a particular safety protocol could be the ring's greatest flaw.

To aid in the Green Lantern Corps' peacekeeping in the DC Universe, its members are given one of the most powerful weapons around: the Power Ring. Those who are able to overcome great fear and who possess the right amount...

Cyclops' Iconic Alex Ross Costume Returns in Fanart of Forgotten Design
Image
In a gorgeous piece of fanart, the X-Men's leader Scott Summers, aka Cyclops, finally gets to wear his epic Alex Ross-designed costume. The definitive leader of Marvel's mutant heroes, Cyclops has undergone something of a rebirth in the last few years, rebelling against Xavier's authority and embracing the swashbuckling life of a true superhero. However, in a dark future imagined at the turn of the millennium, creators predicted a dark destiny for mutantkind.

In a recent Tweet, creator @rxzarx shared a commissioned piece of art in which Cyclops is wearing an alternate costume originally designed for the hero by legendary artist Alex Ross. The art sees Scott clad in an almost all-black costume, but with red 'X' detailing that matches his glowing visor. @rxzarx provides two versions of the art - one in which Scott stands against a gray background with realistic shading on his 'X', and one in...

Colossus' Darkest Redesign Proves He's More Powerful Without the X-Men
Image
While X-Men's Colossus is often overlooked for more extreme powerhouses like the Thing and the Hulk, Piotr Rasputin is more than just a superstrong adventurer, and in the timeline of Earth X, he actually became a major world leader, showing exactly what he's capable of when he's not serving as the mutant team's muscle.

Born and raised in the heartland of Russia, teenage farmhand Piotr Rasputin found himself being recruited by telepathic Professor Charles Xavier to join his refurbished team of X-Men in the US. While Colossus would initially remain reluctant toward superhero business, the former wallflower quickly found a fighting spirit and is a hero to this day. In the reality of Earth X, however, the team disbanded following Xavier's death. When everyone on Earth later gained superpowers, specific heroes were asked to take on international leadership roles, given they were the only people with experience handling superhuman abilities and threats.

A Memoriam In Four Colours: John Paul Leon
Image
This past weekend we lost a well loved and well-respected member of the comics community. John Paul Leon has pulled his chair up to the great drawing board in the sky. Taken way too young at the age of 49 after a battle with cancer. As always with these memoriam pieces I do the out pouring of fellow pros on who knew John and bigger fans of his work can say things about him a million times better than me on social media. I can confess to not knowing a great deal of his career but I can tell he was a very talented guy, who was had a huge fan base and respect from his peers. As always in times like this the comics community shows its true colours on social media and it gives people like me a better understanding of the person and you do feel the lose...

Baby Yoda's Origins Explained in an Old Star Wars Comic?
Image
An old Star Wars comic may offer some clues to Grogu's past. Better known as Baby Yoda, the character debuted in The Mandalorian and has since become a true fan-favorite within the franchise. But much remains mysterious about the beloved little alien. Where, exactly, did he come from? What is the name of his species? Many answers are sure to come but the comic book in question may offer at least some hint as to what happened to the Child before he and Mando crossed paths.

The issue in question is Star Wars Tales #13, which was written by Fabian Nicieza, Jim Krueger and W. Haden Blackman. The series was published by Dark Horse Comics around the time the prequels were being released. They are no longer canon as Disney opted to throw everything out and start from scratch after purchasing Lucasfilm in 2012. But these tales, now dubbed Legends, have often...
