Denzel Washington's 10 Most Underrated Movies
Image
Denzel Washington has had a career spanning over four decades that many actors could only dream of having. Known as one of the most versatile and energetic actors of his era, he can command the screen in a way very few can. Washington has many oscar worthy performances in his catalog. Though he is best known for his starring roles in bigger-budget films, Washington has had many films that defined his career and acting ability that have flown under the radar of some of his fans.

As one of the best actors of all time, Washington plays a key part in every film he appears in, from specialist dramas to high-octane thrillers. Roles like embodying an exasperated father in John Q or portraying a hostage negotiator in Inside Man may not get the critical acclaim of some of his other roles but are just as entertaining and essential as a step in his storied career.

Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington's Buddy Cop Movie Is Now on Netflix
Image
Quick Links 2 Guns Features a Fantastic Dynamic Duo Wahlberg and Washington Are a Perfectly Dynamic Pair

Over 10 years ago, veteran actors Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg joined forces for a buddy-cop comedy of explosive proportions. Part action, part comedy, Washington and Wahlberg paired together in a money-heist action film that, despite its flaws, is wholly entertaining. With two dynamic lead stars, an unlikely partnership, and a premise that takes the best of Lethal Weapon and pairs it with the intimate espionage of Mr. and Mrs. Smith, 2 Guns is an entertaining romp.

2 Guns stars Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg as a pair of criminals working together to rob a bank. Unknown to each other, both of the would-be criminals are undercover law enforcement working on separate operations to take down the leader of a drug cartel. Bobby (Washington) is a smooth-talking DEA agent who wants to convict the cartel leader for tax evasion.

The Top Father's Day Films Ever Made? Here Are Five Dads - Ranging from the Intellectual to the Pathological
'Father of the Bride': Steve Martin and Kimberly Williams. Top Five Father's Day Movies? From giant Gregory Peck to tyrant John Gielgud What would be the Top Five Father's Day movies ever made? Well, there have been countless films about fathers and/or featuring fathers of various sizes, shapes, and inclinations. In terms of quality, these range from the amusing – e.g., the 1950 version of Cheaper by the Dozen; the Oscar-nominated The Grandfather – to the nauseating – e.g., the 1950 version of Father of the Bride; its atrocious sequel, Father's Little Dividend. Although I'm unable to come up with the absolute Top Five Father's Day Movies – or rather, just plain Father Movies – ever made, below are the first five (actually six, including a remake) "quality" patriarch-centered films that come to mind. Now, the fathers portrayed in these films aren't all heroic, loving, and/or saintly paternal figures. Several are...

'Boyhood' Featurette Highlights Director Richard Linklater's 12-Year Journey
Ellar Coltrane in Boyhood (2014)
Director Richard Linklater has long been a pioneer of experimental filmmaking, with revolutionary movies such as Waking Life and A Scanner Darkly under his belt. Those projects almost pale in comparison to Boyhood, which took a whopping 12 years to shoot.

IFC Films has released a new featurette for this upcoming drama, where Richard Linklater explains that he wanted to make a movie about growing up, using the same cast (Ellar Coltrane, Patricia Arquette and Ethan Hawke) over a 12-year period. The production was shot in brief increments every year to show how the cast members literally age over this timeframe, telling the story of this fictional family. We also hear from Patricia Arquette and Ethan Hawke as they describe this historic filmmaking journey in Boyhood, debuting in limited release on July 11.

Filmed over short periods from 2002 to 2013, Boyhood is a groundbreaking cinematic experience covering 12 years in the life of a family.

Film Review: Mark Wahlberg Steals Unexpected Comedic Spotlight Amid ‘2 Guns’ Bromance
Chicago – While you wouldn’t normally compare the new action/comedy “2 Guns” with the comedy “I Love You, Man,” really the only difference between what Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington are doing now versus what Paul Rudd and Jason Segel did in 2009 is that “2 Guns” uses crime as the means by which two grown men fall in love with one another.

Rating: 3.5/5.0

Based on the Boom! Studios graphic novels by Steven Grant, “2 Guns” is an unexpected bromance with just enough action to give its original subject matter justice and the surprising discovery of comedy to make it an overall worthy film to see. Mark Wahlberg doesn’t only co-star in this film; he steals the show. Refreshingly, he does not just his gun but even more so with his mouth.

Read Adam Fendelman’s full review of “2 Guns”.

Wahlberg executes the role of Michael “Stig” Stigman by simultaneously entertaining your...

The Call - Blu-ray Review
The Call starts off with great potential, but the tension is wasted as the film loses its focus towards the end. Instead of an ending filled with suspense, the film drifts into an ending so absurd and unbelievable it feels like it belongs in a bad comedy. Directed by Brad Anderson (2004.s incredible The Machinist) from a screenplay by Richard D'Ovidio (who wrote the story with Nicole D'Ovidio and Jon Bokenkamp), The Call stars Halle Berry, Abigail Breslin, Morris Chestnut, Michael Eklund, David Otunga, Michael Imperioli (who is completely wasted in the film), Justina Machado, José Zúñiga, Roma Maffia, Evie Thompson, and Denise Dowse. The film opens with veteran Lapd 9-1-1 operator Jordan Turner (Berry) taking a variety of...

Halle Berry in The Call (2013)
'The Call' - engages, keeps you hooked (Ians Movie Review)
Halle Berry in The Call (2013)
Film: "The Call"; Cast: Halle Berry, Morris Chestnut, Michael Elkund, David Otunga, Abigail Breslin and Evie Thompson; Director: Brad Anderson; Rating: ***

An engrossing suspense thriller, "The Call" is an interesting slice of life of a '911' call operator. This astutely written script by Richard D'Ovidio follows the template of "Cellular" and "Phone Booth", where the life-line of the film is the telephone call.

The film focuses on how these emergency call operators at times go beyond the call of duty.

Jordan Turner (Halle Berry), the daughter of an ex-policeman works at the Los Angeles Emergency Call Center, which is also known as the Hive.

The film takes you directly into the Hive where, against the backdrop.

Halle Berry in The Call (2013)
Title: The Call Directed By: Brad Anderson Starring: Halle Berry, Abigail Breslin, Morris Chestnut, Michael Eklund, David Otunga, Michael Imperioli, Justina Machado, Evie Thompson, Ella Rae Peck Director Brad Anderson and writer Richard D’Ovidio definitely have something here, but “The Call” falls into B-movie territory with a mix of notable highs, but also a handful of rock bottom lows. Jordan Turner (Halle Berry) is an all-star 911 operator, but when her call with a home invasion victim ends poorly, she feels responsible and opts to step away from the call center. Six months later, Jordan is busy training an incoming class of operators when a call comes in from a [ Read More ]
