Snoop Dogg and Martha Stewart — why not Snoop Dogg and Nick Cave? The rapper has covered the theme song for BBC’s gangster drama “Peaky Blinders.” Originally performed by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, “Red Right Hand,” opens each episode of the series, and has been covered by a lineup of music legends, from Iggy Pop and Jarvis Cocker to Pj Harvey, as well as Arctic Monkeys and Laura Marling. The video mixes footage from the series, starring Cillian Murphy, with snippets of Snoop Dogg in his element. The opinionated “Peaky Blinders” fanbase, however, isn’t entirely happy about Snoop’s take. Chicago rock outfit Whitney unveiled a charming new song, “Used to Be Lonely,” that will appear on their new album, Forever Turned Around, out August 30th on Secretly Canadian.

The track evolves from a sweet, falsetto-steeped singalong into a hypnotic horn-fueled groove. Whitney also unveiled a video for “Used to Be Lonely,” which was directed by Austin Vesely and filmed at some of the bands favorite Chicago spots, including the Music Box Theatre and the Lake Michigan shoreline.

“Used to Be Lonely” follows previously-released Forever Turned Around tracks “Valleys (My Love)” and “Giving Up.

The late Chris Cornell and Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme serve as narrators in a documentary about Chilean-born artist Alain Johannes called Unfinished Plan: The Path of Alain Johannes. Writer/Director Alex Taylor is about to see his first feature length production, Spaceship, which has been backed by the BFI, hits cinemas on May 19th. Taylor makes his transition from short films to embark on his hallucinogenic cinematic journey with an experimental unconventional coming of age story.

A story of teenage troubles, far from those Hollywood loves to portray but from those teenagers who are classed as outsiders in our modern society, ones that want to be unicorns and aliens and, to most, are just plain weird. Spaceship centers on Lucidia (Alexa Davies) as she fakes her own alien abduction, leaving her father to delve into her strange teenage world of neon dream-like visions.

We spoke with Alex Taylor at length to take us into his world of creating Spaceship, its musical connection and its triumphant reception at SXSW.

Iggy Pop has shared the first trailer for the upcoming American Valhalla movie. The movie documents the making of last year's excellent Post Pop Depression album, which was a collaboration between Iggy Pop and Queens of the Stone Age's Joshua Homme. The movie also follows the band on their short tour to support the album ending at London's regal Royal Albert Hall. The collaboration was kept a secret from the public right up until it was released, a rare feat in today's world of leaks and spoilers.

American Valhalla details the story of how Iggy Pop and Josh Homme got together and apparently it was as simple as a text from Pop to Homme asking if he'd like to work together. Homme being a huge fan of Pop in all stages of his career admits that he had to think about it because he didn't want to disappoint one of his musical heroes.

Iggy Pop and Josh Homme have released the first trailer for their new documentary “American Valhalla,” which showcases their collaboration on Iggy’s latest studio album, “Post Pop Depression,” and the world tour the two embarked on following the release of the album. The punk legend and the Queens Of The Stone Age frontman recorded the album with Homme’s band member Dean Fertita and Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders. The documentary takes its name from one of the songs from the album.

Depeche Mode performed their rousing new song "Where's the Revolution" on The Tonight Show Wednesday. Over Martin Gore's smoldering guitar, Andrew Fletcher's mechanized synths, singer Dave Gahan delivered the song with ominous flare. "You've been pissed on for too long/ Your rights abuse/ Your views refused," he sang.

21 years ago today, Jagged Little Pill hit record stores, soon to be a smash hit and eventually one of the best-selling albums of all time. The album is now the age that Alanis Morissette was when it was released — it came out a couple weeks after her 21st birthday. It was the third album from the Canadian singer but a major deviation from her first two studio albums, records that had a generic teen dance-pop sound before Morissette found the voice that would make her a breakout star. Alt-rock Jagged Little Pill captured the rollercoaster that is life as you’re transitioning from your teenage years into your 20s. Morissette was 19 when she wrote it. As evidenced by the album’s massive sales, there were plenty of people who identified with her lyrics and the raw emotion in the music, from “You Oughta Know,” an anthem for any woman who has been betrayed by someone they thought they loved, to the spiritual yearning in opening track “All I Really Want” to “You Learn,” one of the least angsty songs on the album, an ode to making mistakes and learning from them. Jagged Little Pill was nominated for nine Grammy Awards. Morissette’s win for Album of the Year in 1996 made her the youngest artist to receive the honor. She held that record for 14 years, until Taylor Swift won the award in 2010. The New York Times reports that Iggy Pop and Queens of the Stone Age's Josh Homme made a now-not-so-secret album, slated to drop March 18, and are prepping their first round of promotional shows. Titled Post Pop Depression, the nine-track project was put together independently in a total of three weeks, with the help of Dean Fertita, from Qotsa; Matt Helders, from Arctic Monkeys; and other still-unnamed musicians. Judging by the tone of the Times story, Ppd might serve as a kind of coda (or beginning of a coda) to Iggy's already-lengthy career. "What happens after your years of service?" Iggy told the Times, when asked about the record's theme. 2000-2010 was a landmark period for the indie rock revival that swept up the western music scene with the likes of Arcade Fire, Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand and others all achieving widespread attention from the music press and the public with genre defining highlights.

Some bands however weren’t as much apart of the craze, not due to a lack of talent but simply because the landscape of the genre became so convoluted with mimicking and trend-jumpers that some simply got lost in the shuffle. It’s a shame because many of these band’s records more than give the break out artists a run for their money.

The ten entries on this list epitomize those albums of the noughties that got lost in a sea of angular guitars and lyrical whimsy, that either commercially or critically didn’t garner the appreciation that they deserved to.

The 2015 MTV Video Music Awards kicked off in Los Angeles Sunday night, with Ms. Miley Cyrus on hand to host the wild festivities.

Miley didn't disappoint when it came to her always-entertaining brand of enthusiasm and her fashion picks -- the pop star rocked a variety of barely there ensembles, including a see-through number that had what appeared to be balloons pinned to it. Oh, and she also announced that she just dropped a free album. Surprise!

One of the other biggest moments of the night was when Nicki Minaj shocked the audience by opening the show with a special guest: Taylor Swift. The formerly twitter-feuding superstars appeared to bury their public bad blood with a duet. Good one!

Speaking of Tay, the "Blank Space" singer was the most nominated performer of the evening -- she was up for 10 moon men and ended up picking up Video of the Year.

"Don't have to explain myself to you / I don't give two f**ks about your review" said Paul Weller with The Jam on 'The Modern World' back in 1977, so I don't think he'll be all that bothered by what I say about his band or this documentary.

He doesn't have to worry either way. Screened in the city ahead of its broadcast on Sky Arts next week, The Jam: About The Young Idea is a fine documentary that can reel in movie fans who hadn't necessarily surrendered to the beat of Weller, Bruce Foxton and Rick Buckler before.

Riding on the back of a new photo exhibition of the band, the film is directed with economy and style by Bob Smeaton, one of the men behind the remarkable Beatles Anthology series from the mid-1990s.

Just kidding, you’d totally guess: It’s Taylor Swift, whose nine nominations are split between her “Bad Blood” and “Blank Space” videos. Ed Sheeran‘s the second most decorated nominee with six nods for “Thinking Out Loud” and “Don’t.” And then there’s Beyoncé; her five nominations, all for “7/11,” put her in third.

The nominees for the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards were announced Tuesday, and the slate features lots of familiar faces as well as new sensations.

Superstar Taylor Swift led the pack with a whopping nine nominations, thanks to her "1989" singles "Blank Space" and "Bad Blood." English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran scored the second-most nods, with six.

May 29 was a beautiful day in the Brooklyn Botanic Garden for Alexa Chung and Alexander Skarsgard. Their music was described as “bro-folk.” They wore beards unironically. It was an incredible night at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards with amazing performances from Beyonce Knowles and Ed Sheeran, along with Katy Perry, Madonna and Pharrell Williams, just to name a few.

Hosted by the uber-talented LL Cool J, there were a plethora of winners this evening (February 8) with Sam Smith leading the way by taking home four trophies in categories including Best New Artist, Record of the Year and Song of the Year.

Meanwhile, Beck scored the other big prize of the night with Album of the Year accolades for Morning Phase. In addition, the long-tenured musician won Rock Album of the Year honors.

With so many awards shows yet to go this season, the iHeart Radio Music Awards has just offered up a whole new list of nominees for its March 29th event.

Sam Smith and Iggy Azalea top the list of hopefuls with five nods each, while Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande both scored four chances for glory.

Artists Ariana Grande, Iggy Azalea, Luke Bryan, Sam Smith and Taylor Swift are set to compete as artist-of-the-year finalists for the 2015 iHeartRadio Music Awards, which were announced Wednesday. Azalea and Smith lead the pack with five nominations each, while Swift and Grande each earned four as the show returns to Los Angeles and the Shrine Auditorium for a live broadcast on Sunday, March 29 at 8 p.m. Et on NBC. Fan votes will determine three categories this year: Best Fan Army, Best Lyrics and the newest category, the Renegade Award, sponsored by Jeep and going to an artist who "defies convention and breaks boundaries.

After a 21 month hiatus, Harmonix is resurrecting the rock, as the developer announced plans to release new Dlc for Rock Band 3 and Rock Band Blitz. The content, which is scheduled for release tomorrow, will be available on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Sorry Nintendo Wii owners.

While the Rock Band series was known to cover a wide variety of genres, the output for this week consists of nothing but solid rock. Fan favorites Avenged Sevenfold return to the series with “Shepherd of Fire,” which comes from the band’s 2013 release, Hail to the King. Well that was more like it. Last week’s episode of Peaky Blinders felt like the return of a show with much to like, but not quite firing on all cylinders. The second episode felt like a top drama much closer to reaching top gear.

It helps that the episode starts strongly, with Tommy hauled to hospital after his beating at the hands of Sabini’s gang. While in hospital, his one visitor proves to be his nemesis, Major Campbell. Peaky Blinders series 2 will feature a Pj Harvey version of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds' 'Red Right Hand'.

Star of the BBC drama Cillian Murphy and the show's music producer Flood announced details of the show's soundtrack on BBC Radio 6 Music today (September 24).

Flood spoke about reworking Harvey's music for the show, saying: "I was trying to do something very different, which is to deconstruct all of Polly's [Pj Harvey's] old material and then weave it through in the underscore to make it very cutting edge, very post-modern, and set about creating music for the historical period but that was also fresh."

The soundtrack to Peaky Blinders series 2 will also feature music by Paul Hartnoll (Orbital), Johnny Cash and Arctic Monkeys.

Peaky Blinders returns to BBC Two on October 2 at 9pm.

Digital Spy named the soundtrack to the show's first series as one of the ten coolest on TV last year.
