Coyote vs. Acme First Footage Inspires Hope for Brendan Fraser’s Scrapped DC Movie
Image
Coyote vs. Acme is finally getting a release under Ketchup Entertainment after Warner Bros. earlier scrapped it. The film’s footage was featured at the San Diego Comic-Con, where actor Will Forte and director Dave Green appeared on a panel discussion. Forte shared that he was “pretty speechless” after Ketchup took over the movie (via THR).

Forte shared at the Sdcc, “It blows my mind. You think back to the journey this movie has taken. I had kind of given up hope at a certain point, so this is amazing.” The audience was also shown the first footage of the movie, where Wile E. Coyote first meets attorney Kevin Avery, played by Forte, after seeing him on a TV commercial.

Coyote and Kevin’s interaction scenes got quite the laughter from the audience, indicating that the film can thrive with a supportive crowd. The team announced that the film was...

Coyote vs. Acme Release Date and Teaser Shows at Sdcc
Image
Everyone thought it was dead. It’s been a couple of years since the world learned that Warner Bros. scrapped the “Coyote Vs. Acme” film after rave reviews from those who got to see the screening.

The corporation did this to claim a $30 million tax write-off, and fans were salty.

Now it’s back!

“Coyote vs. Acme” has been saved from the bin, and the movie will release to theaters on August 28, 2026, thanks to Ketchup Entertainment, which acquired the rights in March 2024.

Guests at San Diego Comic-Con (Sdcc) got to partake in a preview of the film and a panel featuring Will Forte, who plays Attorney Kevin Avery.

Forte is amazed by the film’s resurrection, and he let the crowd know, saying,

“I’m pretty speechless. It blows my mind. You think back to the journey this movie has taken. I had kind of given up hope at a certain point,...

Coyote Vs. Acme Finally Gets A Release Date After Controversial Cancellation
Image
"Coyote Vs. Acme" will finally make it to big screens worldwide on August 28, 2026! The release date was confirmed at a "Coyote vs Acme" panel at 2025 San Diego Comic-Con, where a sneak peek of the movie and a teaser trailer was screened (despite the Acme Corporation's best efforts to prevent it). For "Looney Tunes" fans who once feared they'd never be able to see the movie, another year-ish is no wait at all.

The saga of "Coyote Vs. Acme" has gone on as long — and with as many back and forth moves — as a genuine case of litigation. Like the titular coyote himself, the movie kept getting back up. Unlike Mr. Coyote, the movie is coming out on top.

"Coyote Vs. Acme" was directed by Dave Green ("Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows") and written by Samy Burch ("May December"), with "story by" credits from Burch, James Gunn, and Jeremy Slater.

Coyote Vs Acme First Footage Reveals Wile's Reasons For Seeking Legal Help & Courtroom Drama In New Comedy Movie
Image
The first footage from the upcoming live-action legal comedy Coyote vs. Acme played at San Diego Comic-Con with Screen Rant in attendance, and it provided a glimpse of what to expect. Starring John Cena and Will Forte at the head of a talented human cast, Coyote vs. Acme will see actors and actresses interacting with CGI toons a la Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

At the movie's Hall H panel at Comic-Con, the team behind Coyote vs. Acme also confirmed a theatrical release date, which is set for August 28th, 2025. Originally due to be shelved forever for the sake of a $30 million tax break for Warner Bros., public backlash and lobbying from its creators and cast helped give the movie new life and a wide theatrical release.

At Comic-Con, the audience at Hall H was lucky enough to see legitimate footage. The initial clip sees Wile E. Coyote reminiscing about all...

‘Coyote vs. Acme’ Debuts First Footage as Will Forte Reflects on Salvaged Film: “I Had Given Up Hope”
Image
After a very bumpy road, Coyote vs. Acme’s team took to San Diego Comic-Con to celebrate the movie finally heading to the big screen and announce its forthcoming release date.

“I’m pretty speechless,” Will Forte told the crowd about the movie landing a release from Ketchup Entertainment after being dropped by Warner Bros. “It blows my mind. You think back to the journey this movie has taken. I had kind of given up hope at a certain point, so this is amazing.”

The first footage from Coyote vs. Acme featured a montage of Wile E. Coyote’s failed attempts to thwart the Road Runner, which was set to Johnny Cash’s version of the Nine Inch Nails hit “Hurt.” Later, Wile E. Coyote happens to see a TV commercial from attorney Kevin Avery, as played by Forte.

‘Coyote vs. Acme’ Lands August 2026 Release Date, Footage Debuts at Comic-Con Despite Acme Corp. Meddling
Image
Hollywood’s improbable underdog “Coyote vs. Acme” has finally landed a global theatrical release date. Star Will Forte announced at the film’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con that the live-action/animation hybrid will premiere on Aug. 28, 2026.

“Coyote vs. Acme” — about Looney Tunes stalwart Wyle E. Coyote suing the Acme Corporation for all its faulty tools in his pursuit of the Road Runner — was infamously shelved by Warner Bros. Discovery in 2023 after it was completed, so the company could write off its $30 million budget. The movie was greenlit by the previous regime for the streaming service HBO Max, but the team led by Wbd’s CEO David Zaslav decided to abandon that strategy and focus on theatrical releases instead. That decision led to the notorious cancellation of HBO Max films “Batgirl” and “Scoob! Holiday Haunt” in 2022.

Unlike those movies, however, “Coyote vs. Acme” was rescued by Ketchup Entertainment, which acquired...

'Coyote vs Acme' Explodes Into Sdcc With Hysterical Footage and Release Date
Image
Earlier this year, long-time fans of Looney Tunes were hit with pretty good news. After Warner Bros. executives unceremoniously shelved the highly anticipated comedy movie Coyote vs. Acme, help came through Ketchup Entertainment. Today at Sdcc, the hype just became real as the company finally unveiled the movie's brand-new release date, and even some behind-closed-doors footage. The adventure is set to premiere in just one year on August 28, 2026, and WB even shared a poster and some new images below.

Warner Bros. Team Defends The Shelving of Coyote vs. Acme
Image
The team behind the upcomingThe Cat in the Hat film defends the decision to shelve Coyote vs. Acme.

Per Deadline, The Cat in the Hat co-writer-director Alessandro Carloni opened up about why the axing of Coyote vs. Acme by Warner Bros. Discovery should not become "representative of how painful and atrocious the industry can be." Carloni explained, "It's that kind of industry. You have to go with the frustration. We are lucky to do art in our profession but we can’t lock ourselves in a basement and paint a painting. We get to do things that are huge and expensive and it is a business."

Erica Rivinoja, who wrote and directed The Cat in the Hat alongside Carloni, added that audiences can help prevent future cancellations in one simple way. "Go to the movies," Rivinoja said. "Go to the big ones, go to the small ones, don't just stream them.

The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Moviehad a limited theatrical release in December before expanding wide in March, but now Earth's unlikeliest heroes, Porky Pig and Daffy Duck, are set to invade the small screen. 'Coyote vs. Acme' Star Is "Thrilled" Looney Tunes Movie Is Getting a Release
Image
Nearly a month after Coyote vs. Acmewas saved from the scrapheap by Ketchup Entertainment, having previously been discarded by Warner Bros. as part of a tax write-off, star Will Forte has vowed to go to extreme lengths to promote the Looney Tunes movie ahead of its theatrical release, which is expected to roll out sometime next year — even if it means climbing to the top of Mount Everest to shout about it from the rooftops to help generate interest and make it a box office success.

While attending the Los Angeles premiere of his new show The Four Seasons, Forte briefly turned his attention to a project he filmed long before the Netflix miniseries: the formerly shelved Coyote vs. Acme. The cameras started rolling on the hybrid live-action/animated legal comedy in March 2022, with Forte starring as Wile E. Coyote's lawyer Kevin Avery opposite John Cena's Acme Corporation attorney Buddy Crane,...

Coyote vs. Acme Voice Actor Offers Hopeful Update on Shelved Looney Tunes Movie's Release Chances
Image
In November 2023, Warner Bros. Discovery shelved Coyote vs. Acme for a tax write-off. Although Wbd reversed its decision and allowed the movie to be acquired by other distributors, there have been no takers yet, leading many to worry that the Looney Tunes movie will never see the light of day.

However, according to voice actor Eric Bauza, it's not entirely over yet for Coyote vs. Acme. Speaking with Screen Rant at the recent WGA Awards, Bauza stated that he believed Warner Bros. would reconsider releasing Coyote vs. Acme if the next Looney Tunes movie, the fully-animated The Day the Earth Blew Up starring Daffy Duck and Porky Pig, was a box office success. "If this movie, The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie - opening March 14th, in theaters everywhere - gets a lot of money, then we might see Coyote Vs. Acme. Stranger things have happened!

'Coyote vs Acme' Could Be Released if ‘The Day the Earth Blew Up’ Is Successful
Image
The unreleased animated-live action Looney Tunes hybrid Coyote Vs. Acme has gotten a surprise update from one of the film's stars. On November 2023, Warner Bros. Discovery shelved their Looney Tunes star vehicle with John Cena, Will Forte, and Lana Condor. The decision to scrap the completed movie in favor of a tax break left many frustrated, including the film star Will Forte, who spoke with MovieWeb about his frustration following what was dubbed a funeral screening and told people, "Don't forget what they did to us."

On the red carpet for the Writers Guild of America Awards, Looney Tunes voice actor Eric Bauza told Screen Rant's Joe Deckelmeier that the fate of Coyote Vs. Acme might hinge on the upcoming Looney Tunes film, The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie. Bauza voices both Daffy Duck and Pork Pig in The Day the Earth Blew Up and...

Behind the Scenes Footage Gives Best Look at Scrapped 'Coyote Vs. Acme' Movie
Image
The story of Coyote Vs. Acme enters a new chapter, as a behind the scenes video has surfaced online teasing fans with their best look yet at the kind of action they missed out on when Warner Bros. decided to scrap the movie. Shared in a viral post on X/Twitter by user @TopicsThe, the brief clip - though not long in duration - has renewed calls for someone to do the world a favor and release the movie by whatever means possible.

The footage shows how puppets and cut-outs of several iconic Looney Tunes characters, such as Porky Pig, Gossamer, and of course the titular character, were used on set, to be later replaced with the animated versions that would appear in the final movie. However, what is more interesting and intriguing are the several shots of technical crew members coordinating stunts and rigging contraptions that appear to pay...

While the story outline for the feature was reportedly leaked via Paste Bin in early March 2024, Warner Bros. has yet to officially announce the fate of the completed live-action and cartoon hybrid film. John Cena and Will Forte star in the film which was at first announced as...

Trevante Rhodes, Ashton Sanders, and Alex R. Hibbert in Moonlight (2016)
Writers Guild Award Analysis: It’s Still ‘Moonlight’ and ‘Manchester’ At the Oscars
Trevante Rhodes, Ashton Sanders, and Alex R. Hibbert in Moonlight (2016)
The Writers Guild Awards and the Academy writing nominees always don’t line up; many films are ineligible. This year, those included Oscar-writing nominees “Lion” and “The Lobster.”

This year, the WGA and the Academy differed dramatically. While the WGA deemed “Moonlight” and “Loving” as Original Screenplays, the Academy considered both as Adapted; only “Moonlight” landed a nomination.

At the WGA, as at the BAFTAs, Barry Jenkins’ script for “Moonlight” competed for the Original Screenplay Award against both Kenneth Lonergan’s “Manchester by the Sea” and Damien Chazelle’s “La La Land.” Unlike the BAFTAs, Jenkins emerged the winner over Lonergan, a sign of strength for “Moonlight,” which is nominated for eight Oscars.

4 Podcasts to Inspire and Entertain You
For these performers, taking their careers into their own hands was as simple as “Testing, 1, 2, 3...” “Denzel Washington Is the Greatest Actor of All Time Period”They say the formula to success on the Internet is specificity. If you couldn’t tell by the title, W. Kamau Bell and Kevin Avery—comedians, hosts, and co-creators of “Dwitgaoatp”—have that part down. But what makes their podcast stand out goes beyond niche. Bell and Avery have made it their mission to mark, with unabashed adoration, all of the reasons Denzel Washington lives up to their appellation, and in the process manage to marry equally humorous and grounded observations about the craft of acting, Hollywood, and the state of film and television for actors of (and not of) color. Over the course of 80 episodes thus far, our hosts discuss every Washington movie ever made, alongside Spike Lee, Ava DuVernay, David Alan Grier, Michael Rapaport,...

Comedy Central’s Cc:Studios Renews ‘Six Guys One Car’ and ‘New Timers’
Comedy Central is taking multiplatform incubation quite seriously.

The cable channel’s in-house Cc:Studios has renewed two returning series and greenlit five new ones in development, the company said on Thursday.

Additionally, the online division released “Roustabout” on Wednesday, a comedic travelogue that follows Kurt Braunohler as he jet skis from Chicago to New Orleans to raise money for charity.

The renewed series are “Six Guys One Car” (pictured above), from YouTube stars Dormtainment, and “New Timers,” following two low-key friends that remain unchanged and unphased by a post-apocalyptic Brooklyn.

Billy Bob Thornton, Colin Hanks, Jason Schwartzman, and Allison Tolman in Fargo (2014)
FX doesn't submit 'Fargo' as 'Transparent,' 'True Detective' lead WGA TV nominations
Billy Bob Thornton, Colin Hanks, Jason Schwartzman, and Allison Tolman in Fargo (2014)
The Writers Guild of America announced the TV nominees for the 2015 WGA Awards on Thursday (December 4) morning and several new shows broke into the fields in a big way. And, of course, there were a number of big WGA Award nomination head-scratchers. Specifically, where the heck was FX's "Fargo"? The answer is below. Making perhaps the biggest splash was "Transparent," which earned three nominations and, since "Orange Is The New Black" earned two nods and "House of Cards" pick up one, that meant that Amazon Prime and Netflix are, at least for one award-giving organization, on equal footing as creators of original programming. The Jill Soloway-created "Transparent" is nominated for New Series, where it will go against "The Affair," "The Knick," "Silicon Valley" and "True Detective." "Transparent" and "Silicon Valley" are also up for Comedy Series, going against "Louie," "Veep" and "Orange Is The New Black." Lest you panic...

Now parent company Midroll Media is doubling down on the medium: Tuesday, it launches a sister network to Earwolf, this one focusing on pop culture and going by the name Wolfpop. Helping guide the whole project is actor-comedian (and co-host of How Did This Get Made?...

Trailer For Mockumentary 'Thugs, The Musical' (Starring David Alan Grier) + Screening Date
A project we first highlighted 2 years ago, when we posted its Kickstarter campaign (the filmmaker successfully raised over $10,000). 2 years later, we are told that it'll be screening in NYC, on December 15, as part of the New York No Limits 2012 Film Summit. The mockumentary short film, titled Thugs, The Musical, follows Michael Gardner (played by Kevin Avery), a frustrated, sightly delusional, and extremely non-urban black actor who writes, directs & stars in a disastrous musical to prove to Hollywood and the world that he can "act black." Avery wrote the screenplay, which was directed by Liam Sullivan, with a cast that also includes David Alan...

Should You Stay Up to See ‘Totally Biased With W. Kamau Bell’?
Tonight is the premiere for FX’s new semi-live comedy show, Totally Biased with W.Kamau Bell, starring San Francisco comedian W. Kamau Bell and produced by Chris Rock. It’s the latest entry by FX to expand its comedy offerings and it’s second in trying to do a multi-media-comedy-act-in-front-of-a-live-audience show at 11pm Et/Pt. The first being Brand X with Russel Brand, which is an awkward show to describe without getting frustrated. Totally Biased however, is more refined, straight forward act that’s heavy on the socio-politcal hot topics and packaged in a way that’s much more easily absorbed, because we want to laugh but we also want to retain the messages too. Is it worth staying up for after Louie? In a word, yes.

In each episode, Bell stands before a crowd in an intimate theater-like environment of what seems like and audience of 200-300, comprised mostly of young adults,...

Daily Briefing. Artforum's Best of 2011
There oughta be a law. Just as it should be illegal for sprawling malls and the Walgreen's on the corner to barf up Christmas decorations before Thanksgiving, so, too, should critics organizations and other awards-giving bodies be banned from opening the season until Artforum posts John Waters's annual "Best Films of 2011" list on December 1. Tradition, people.

Today's the day, and since it's also World Aids Day, I'm choosing his #9 as a sample quote: "We Were Here (David Weissman) Half my friends died of AIDS, so this simple and painfully told doc on the disastrous epidemic's effect on San Francisco is personal. If you don't sob watching, maybe you should be dead too."

Joining Waters on the same page this year is Ed Halter, founder and director of Light Industry and — whoa — a co-curator of the film and video program for the 2012 Whitney Biennial, opening March 1. His #1: "Inkblot films...

Daily Briefing. Swinton, Ramsay, Eastwood
Having premiered in Cannes a full season ago, We Need to Talk About Kevin is, of course, not news, but the Playlist's Kevin Jagernauth has a way of extracting nifty little tidbits from its makers. Director Lynne Ramsay, we learn, will knock out a feature for Warp Films before turning to "a psychological science fiction film." And Tilda Swinton chats a bit about working with Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Frances McDormand, Harvey Keitel, Bill Murray and Jason Schwartzman on Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom. While in Toronto, Swinton's also taken to the stage to discuss her career and spoken with Roger Ebert, looking straight into his camera with a jolting forthrightness … The great, great Los Angeles Review of Books runs Jonathan Lethem's forward and two selections from the first chapter of Conversations with Clint: Paul Nelson's Lost Interviews with Clint Eastwood, 1979-1983, edited by Kevin Avery.

Comedian Kevin Avery’s “Thugs, The Musical” Needs You
Courtesy of my Twitter timeline, I discovered comedian Kevin Avery is just about to reach his goal in raising funds for his short film, Thugs, The Musical, but is in need of additional financial help.

The comedic short is about a very “non urban” black actor in Hollywood who, after years of auditioning but never getting cast because he’s not “black enough,” decides to star in his own theater production to show Hollywood that he, too, can “act black”.

The creation of this short film is the result of a popular comedy skit he does on the circuit. Making appearances in the film will be David Alan Grier, Margaret Cho, Rachel True and Prodigal Sun from the Wu Tang Clan.

Check out the Kickstarter campaign trailer below, and then head over to the project’s Kickstarter page to contribute Here:...
