Next year marks the 50th anniversary of Patti Smith’s debut album Horses. To commemorate that moment , an array of indie and alternative rockers will gather at New York’s Carnegie Hall on March 26 for a Smith tribute concert.

The lineup for “People Have the Power: Celebrating the Music of Patti Smith” will, so far, include Michael Stipe, Kim Gordon, Matt Berninger of the National, Karen O, Sharon Van Etten, Ben Harper, Courtney Barnett, the Kronos Quartet, Angel Olsen, and the Kills’ Alison Mosshart. Additional artists are expected to be announced in the months ahead.

Eric Gardner, Chairman and CEO of Panacea Entertainment who began his career coordinating tours for Jefferson Airplane and the Grateful Dead before pivoting to talent management for such clients as Paul Shaffer, Donny Osmond, The Sex Pistols, as well as members of The Rolling Stones, The E Street Band and The Who, died at his home in Camarillo, California, July 19 from complications of pneumonia. He was 74.

His death was announced by Janis Gardner, his wife and Panacea Entertainment co-owner.

Born Eric Winslow Gardner on November 20, 1949, Garner’s long and notable career as a talent manager, film, television, and Las Vegas residency show producer began in 1970 when he started coordinating tours for the bands Jefferson Airplane, Kiss, and the Grateful Dead. By 1973 his company Panacea Entertainment Corp. was coordinating tours for major bands in 23 countries around the world.

The Rolling Stones brought out Tyler Childers in Orlando on Monday night, June 3, for a special performance of their Sticky Fingers classic “Dead Flowers.”

Childers upped the number of guitars onstage to at least four, strumming his acoustic guitar to match Mick Jagger’s while Ronnie Wood and Keith Richards (as always) traded licks on electric. On Wednesday, a host of musicians came together to honor late Irish legends Shane MacGowan and Sinead O’Connor with a tribute concert at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

Most notably, O’Connor’s daughter, Roisin Waters, paid tribute to her mother with a stirring performance of “Nothing Compares 2 U.”

Dave Grohl paid tribute to his one-time Nirvana bandmate Paul McCartney (technically, it’s true!) with a rendition of “Live and Let Die” at the Love Rocks NYC benefit concert Thursday night, March 7.

The Foo Fighters frontman gave a characteristically full-throated performance of McCartney’s hit 1973 James Bond theme song. Though he strained a bit to hit some of the high notes during the ballad-y sections and left the “You know you did” refrain to the backing vocalists, he attacked the hard rock portions the way only Dave Grohl can.

An all-star Sinéad O’Connor and Shane MacGowan tribute concert will take place in New York City this spring.

The one-night-only tribute show goes down just after St. Patrick’s Day on March 20th at Carnegie Hall, and will feature performances from Cat Power, The Mountain Goats, Glen Hansard, Dropkick Murphys, Amanda Palmer, David Gray, Bettye Lavette, Gogol Bordello’s Eugene Hutz, Sunflower Bean’s Julia Cumming, Kat Edmonson, and the Resistance Revival Chorus.

The occasion comes after O’Connor’s passing at 56 in July of 2023 and MacGowan’s death at 65 in November of 2023. Billed as “Sinéad & Shane at Carnegie Hall,” the tribute will celebrate the two Irish icons with covers of both artists’ songs.

Farm Aid announced today that its music, food and farm festival will be broadcast live on Circle Network, SiriusXM and FarmAid.org.

The program will include music from the day and videos that tell the stories of New England farmers. Farm Aid 2021 is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 25, at Xfinity Theatre in Harford, Connecticut.

Blues Hall of Fame legend Bettye Lavette has released a timely cover of Billie Holiday’s standard “Strange Fruit” in conjunction with ongoing protests against systemic racism and violence toward black Americans.

Lavette chose to share the song ahead of schedule due to the current state of the country.

Written by Jewish poet Abel Meeropol and originally recorded by Holiday in 1939, “Strange Fruit” was inspired by a photo of two black men lynched by a crowd of white people who are seen smiling and pointing out the men’s bodies to the camera.

After his father was on TV waxing poetic about a “crisis of the heart,” Donald Trump Jr., who once compared Syrian refugees to a bowl of poisoned Skittles, likened migrants to zoo animals.

“You know why you can enjoy a day at the zoo?” the son of President Donald Trump wrote in a since-deleted Instagram message posted Tuesday night. “Because walls work.”

The clueless analogy drew quick and widespread condemnation on social media. Seinfeld writer Larry Charles tweeted that Trump Jr. “is so blinded by his own hubris that he can’t see that once ⁦@realDonaldTrump⁩ falls, he will be nothing but a convict serving time for treason, in a cage, behind a wall.”

The 15th annual ‘Michael Dorf Presents The Music Of’ concert tickets are now on sale.

This year CEO & Founder of City Winery, Michael Dorf, is celebrating the music of Van Morrison at Carnegie Hall on March 21st.

The tribute concert will feature 20 artists including Brian Fallon (The Gaslight Anthem), Shawn Colvin, Bettye Lavette, Anderson East and more. The proceeds will be donated to various music education organizations that help underprivileged youth. The series has raised over $1.5 million dollars for organizations such as Little Kids Rock, Young Audiences New York, and more.

For every inspired concept that had alt rockers like Sonic Youth covering the Carpenters, there were a dozen bloated homages that had superstars commissioning all-star portraits of themselves, like 1991’s mostly useless “Two Rooms: Celebrating the Songs of Elton John & Bernie Taupin.” It’s ironic these salutation sets never made it as a trend into the streaming age; if ever a format was made for cherry-picking, it’s one that assumes a consumer who wants Kate Bush’s take on “Rocket Man” also hankers to have Phil Collins burn down a mission or hear the ’Nam-themed “Daniel” assigned to Wilson Phillips.

Last week, Little Kids Rock, the national nonprofit dedicated to transforming lives by restoring, expanding, and innovating music education in public schools, raised $1.3 million at their annual benefit.

The evening, which honored Elvis Costello, Bonnie Raitt and City Winery CEO Michael Dorf, was held at the PlayStation Theater.

Costello was presented with the Rocker of the Year Award by actor Mike Myers, and Raitt received the Lifetime Achievement Award from her friend Harry Connick Jr. Grammy nominated soul singer Bettye Lavette, who performed Blackbird during the ceremony, presented to Dorf, who was honored for his extensive philanthropic work, including efforts on behalf of expanding music education for underprivileged youth through the annually produced “Music of” tribute concerts.

Little Kids Rock, the national nonprofit dedicated to transforming lives by restoring, expanding, and innovating music education in public schools, has announced more stars will be among the special guests who will take the stage at their annual benefit.

The organization has announced actor and comedian Mike Myers; award winner Darlene Love; Grammy nominated soul singer Bettye Lavette; Grammy winning blues musician Keb’ Mo’; Musical Director Will Lee; and past honorees Paul Shaffer, band leader and musical director for the Late Show with David Letterman; and famed Yankee and Latin Grammy nominee Bernie Williams will take part in the event.

This year’s event, which will honor Elvis Costello, Bonnie Raitt and Michael Dorf, will take place on Wednesday, October 18th at PlayStation Theater in New York.

The Little Kids Rock Benefit brings together artists and individuals who are passionate about giving the transformational gift of music to children in public schools across the Us.

Singer Sharon Jones died after a long battle against pancreatic cancer on Friday. She was 60.

According to a statement to Et, the singer "was surrounded by loved ones, including the Dap-Kings."

Jones first began singing in church and school, before performing professionally as a wedding singer in the 1970s. The bulk of Jones' success, however, came three decades later, after starting her band, Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings. The band released its debut album, Dap Dippin' With Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, to immediate attention and critical acclaim in 2002, and quickly released three more albums, Naturally (2005), 100 Days, 100 Nights (2007) and I Learned the Hard Way (2010).

Performers included legendary vocal group The Coasters, along with artists Karen Akers,Mary Bridget Davies, Corky Hale, Maria Elena Infantino,Sally Kellerman, Bettye Lavette, Melissa Manchester, Billy Stritch, Tommy Tune and Steve Tyrell.
