Bee and Puppycat Isn’t Just a Comedy, It’s a Mystery Box Show
Image
Bee and Puppycat made its long-awaited return on Netflix in the form of Bee and Puppycat: Lost in Space. It’s a pseudo-second season that reconfigures the plots of the original series and uses them as the basis for the first few before departing into completely unknown territory. The show follows Bee (Allyn Rachel) and Puppycat (Vocaloid Oliver) as they do odd temp jobs and generally just live their day-to-day lives. The show doesn’t have much in terms of an overarching plot, instead, it spends its time firmly entrenched in the happenings of each episode taking us from one surreal job to the next. Bee and Puppcat has a beautiful pastel aesthetic and at times a rather juvenile sense of humor that could easily lead to one thinking this show is similar to the likes of Steven Universe. But in truth Bee and Puppycat is much more mature and...

Sean Anders at an event for That's My Boy (2012)
Instant Family Review: A Heartwarming Story of Love and Adoption
Sean Anders at an event for That's My Boy (2012)
Instant Family has a whole lot of heart. Director Sean Anders crafts a touching story about the difficulties and profound happiness adopting children. The film uses comedy to highlight the issues of the foster care system. Most prospective parents are looking for infants. They don't want the burden of raising "troubled" older children, especially teens. Instant Family is a testament to the people who care for abandoned children. It takes true compassion and love to embark on this journey.

Pete (Mark Wahlberg) and Ellie (Rose Byrne) are a successful couple in suburban California. Their business flipping houses has finally taken hold. They are able to enjoy the fruits of their labor. Ellie argues with her competitive sister (Allyn Rachel) about having children. She was so busy working, the thought of a baby seemed ridiculous. Ellie goes online to research fostering children. She is deeply moved.

They decide to get certified as foster parents.

Logan Paul's Valley Girl Remake Has Been Shelved
With just under five months until it's previously-planned release, MGM has yanked its upcoming Valley Girl remake from its release schedule. While the studio didn't comment on the move, nor did it issue a new release date, it likely has to do with the involvement of embattled YouTube star Logan Paul, who has a supporting role. The studio has moved The Hustle, a remake of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels starring Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson, into the June 29 release date, where it will go up against Lionsgate's Uncle Drew and Sony's Sicario 2: Soldado.

Production had wrapped last year on MGM's Valley Girl remake, which stars Jessica Rothe as Julie Richman, a sweet young girl from the San Fernando Valley, who falls for a Hollywood rocker named Randy (Josh Whitehouse), roles originated by Deborah Foreman and Nicolas Cage in the original 1983 classic. As for Logan Paul, he plays a supporting character named Mickey,...

Bww Recap: It's Time to Meet 'This Guy' on Selfie!
Sadly, a few days ago, the news broke that Selfie wouldn't last a full season. While it's going to be a hard goodbye, to a show that had a lot of promise, that doesn't mean we can't enjoy the episodes we have left, which is unclear at this point. This week's episode not only brought budding relationships, but also the return of the loveably quirky, Bryn, played by Allyn Rachel...

Selfie: Sitcom Cancelled by ABC
Trends in social media come and go -- and so do sitcoms about them. ABC has decided against ordering any additional episodes of their low-rated Selfie sitcom, effectively cancelling it.

Selfie: Season One Ratings
ABC hasn't had much success with sitcoms on Tuesday nights but they're going to try again. Will Selfie be a hit in the ratings or a flop? Cancelled or renewed for a second season? Stay tuned.

Talking to the Top Female Filmmaker on Kickstarter, Bee and PuppyCat’s Natasha Allegri
Despite having zero Hollywood clout, no major awards, and little risk of ever being described as a household name, Natasha Allegri recently made filmmaking history. She raised $872,133 for her surreal animated web series, Bee and PuppyCat. Not only does that make her the sixth-most successful filmmaker on Kickstarter (bested only by Spike Lee, Zach Braff, the Veronica Mars movie, and other big names), it also makes her its most successful woman filmmaker. It’s safe to say Allegri and her series are cult phenomena.Bee and PuppyCat is difficult to describe, which is part of its charm. It debuted in July of 2013 on Cartoon Hangover, a YouTube network of animated series run by a company called Frederator. Allegri, who was at the time working on the hit cartoon Adventure Time, crafted a two-part saga about an unemployed woman named Bee (voiced by actress Allyn Rachel) and a strange half-dog/half-cat...

Selfie episode 1 review: Pilot
Karen Gillan stars in Selfie, a modern sitcom take on Pygmalion. Here's what Patrick made of the first episode...

Eliza Dooley is the colleague from hell. She’s the smug, gaudy co-worker who lives in a symbiotic relationship with her phone and spends more time commenting on Instagram or Tweeting her feelings than interacting with the world. When Eliza struts into her workplace, a pharmaceuticals company, she dribbles out a line of text-speak to the baffled receptionist. Into Eliza’s work enters Henry Higgs, a sniffy, uptight technophobe who managed to amend and enhance the reputation of the company much to the delight of its boss. After a particularly embarrassing moment in which two bulging bags of vomit explode onto Eliza’s trendy skirt in front of all her colleagues, she resolves to improve her own image, enlisting a surprisingly willing Henry to help her (“I can transform this vapid,...

‘Million Dollar Arm’ Review
Stars: Jon Hamm, Aasif Mandvi, Alan Arkin, Pitobash, Suraj Sharma, Madhur Mittal, Lake Bell, Bill Paxton, Gregory Alan Williams, Allyn Rachel | Written by Thomas McCarthy | Directed by Craig Gillespie

Walt Disney Pictures has found great success in past years with based on true story sport films. Movies like The Rookie, Miracle, and Invincible took accounts of people overcoming insurmountable odds and added the classic Disney methodology. Million Dollar Arm shares many similar inherit qualities with those past Disney properties—human drama with a universal charm, broad comedic moments to lighten the mood, and a family friendly appeal that makes it easier to forgive the strong addiction to cliché storytelling. Million Dollar Arm is not much more than an enhanced TV movie, nevertheless its likeable personality makes it worth your time.

Much of that personality comes from Jon Hamm, who plays sports agent Jb Burstein. He comes off as a lighter...

ABC Reveals Fall Schedule And Previews New Shows
Now that it is just barely summer, it’s time for the networks to try their best to get you excited for fall television. ABC wants you to get excited for their schedule, and their new shows, and I’ve got some previews for you, as well as some initial thoughts.

I have to tell you, ABC is looking more and more strange as time goes on, and the overall efforts of the network really have to make you wonder. While there are some hints of interesting shows, and one or two that might turn into worthwhile vehicles, in the Eddie and the Cruisers world of television, ABC is Joe Pantoliano, clutching his tapes, and furiously blathering about the lunacy of not giving the idiotic public what they want, especially since they keep demanding it.

To that end, ABC has declared Thursday, Shonda Rhimes night, largely because someone apparently had...

John Cho joins Karen Gillan on ABC's 'Selfie' pilot
The cast for "Selfie," the pilot starring "Doctor Who's" Karen Gillan is rounding out rather well. Already, she will be joined by David Harewood, Allyn Rachel and Tim Peper. Now, "Harold and Kumar" star John Cho is joining the mix.

According to TV Line, Cho plays a marketing expert trying to help Gillan's Eliza Dooley repair her image after a breakup video goes viral. The pilot script, from "Suburgatory" creator Emily Kapnek, is inspired by "My Fair Lady."

Cho has most recently been seen on "Sleepy Hollow." though half-hour comedy is nothing new to him. In addition to starring in "Go On," he's appeared on "30 Rock," "Ntsf:sd:suv::" and "How I Met Your Mother," among other shows.

Dead Dad Movie Review
Dead Dad (2012)
Title: Dead Dad Director: Ken J. Adachi Starring: Kyle Arrington, Jenni Melear, Lucas K. Peterson, Allyn Rachel, Ben Hethcoat, Brett Erlich A fitful but engaging tale of familial drift and erratic reconnection, director Ken J. Adachi’s debut film, “Dead Dad,” exhibits a mature grasp beyond its years of the manner in which swallowed adolescent resentments pervert adult relationships. Shot over the course of a month and produced entirely from the funds of a successful Kickstarter campaign, “Dead Dad” is robustly emblematic of a certain slice of what I’ve coined “Silver Lake cinema,” ambling Los Angeles-set dramedies that — with a nod toward mumblecore and an indebted fist bump for Miranda [ Read More ]
