Exclusive: Abigail Spencer (Suits), Holt McCallany (Mindhunter), and Lucas Till (MacGyver) have been tapped for supporting roles in Clean Hands, the true-life drama from writer-director Jake Allyn on which we were first to report last month.

The trio is set to star opposite previously announced leads Zach Braff and Esther McGregor, with production now underway.

Set in Hagerstown MD, a Baltimore suburb along the infamous “Heroin Highway,” Clean Hands explores the American drug crisis through the lens of a father-daughter duo caught on opposing sides of the law, based on the harrowing story of hero drug cop turned recovery advocate Kevin Simmers (Braff) and his daughter Brooke (McGregor).

Spencer will portray Kevin’s wife Dana, while McCallany will play Maryland Congressman David Trone and Lucas Till will play Sheriff’s Deputy Dormer.

‘The Nest’ Review
Image
Stars: Dee Wallace, Sarah Navratil, Kevin Patrick Murphy, Drez Ryan, Blaque Fowler, Anna Lynn Holleman, Penny Munroe, Maple Suttles, Piper Suttles | Written by Jennifer Trudrung | Directed by James Suttles

The horror genre obviously hasn’t had enough movies about bees. You’d think Candyman would have started a trend (and The Nest seems to have picked the right year to be released if the Candyman remake ever appears!) but there has been little since. There were a few sci-fi giant killer bee types before the 90s and a few SyFy giant killer bee types after the 90s, as well as the surprisingly great Stung in 2015 but I was happy to see The Nest appear.

I will say from the outset, don’t go expecting a killer bee movie. It can be debated whether the creatures here are bees at all but they share plenty of similarities so I’m going with it.

The Nest: "Genre icon Dee Wallace is “truly memorable” (Horror Obsessive) in The Nest, premiering on Digital, DVD and On Demand July 20 from 4DigitalMedia.

When Meg and her mother Beth visit a yard sale, Beth buys her young daughter an adorable stuffed bear, thinking it may help with Meg’s separation anxiety. As children do, she quickly becomes attached to the bear, talking to it and taking it everywhere she goes. However, soon Beth notices that the bear is communicating with Meg and even influencing her behavior. When Meg starts developing hoarding habits, and seems infected by a parasitic creature, things take a turn for the worse. Soon it’s clear there’s something much more nightmarish and sinister to this yard sale toy than anyone could have imagined.

Directed by James Suttles and written by Jennifer Trudrung, The Nest “will keep those nerves on the very edge” (From Page 2 Screen).

Sarah Navratil,...
