‘Bambai Meri Jaan’ True Story, Explained: How Much Of It Is Based On Real Events?
Image
Bambai Meri Jaan is creating waves by showcasing stories that may be familiar to many of us. What makes this ten-episode-long show different from the usual fare we have watched on this subject over the years is the treatment of the story and the screenplay. This story is extensively covered in pieces of media like books, case studies, and articles. There are plenty of Hindi films as well that were either successful in being accurate portrayals of that era or they were just over-the-top dramatization, which in most cases did not give the audience the right picture to understand the nexus and the leaders.

Bambai Meri Jaan is based on the bestselling book ‘Dongri to Dubai’ written by India’s top investigative journalist S. Hussain Zaidi. ‘Dongri to Dubai’ has been the source material for many movies made in the gangster drama genre. What makes them less engaging than Shujaat Saudagar...

“Bambai Meri Jaan, A Gripping Revisitation To The Cult Of Gangsterism” – A Subhash K Jha Review

Bambai Meri Jaan

Starring Kay Kay Menon, Avinash Tiwary, Kritika Kamra, Nivedita Bhattacharya, Amyra Dastur

Directed by Shujaat Saudagar

One thing about the enduring interest in lives of smugglers and gangsters: they provided a lot of employment to Mumbai’s population back in the 1960s, 70s and 80s when they were active; they continue to provide employment to actors and technicians who are part of these never-ending sanguinary sagas of nebulous loyalties and sticky alliances.

Bambai Meri Jaan based on S. Hussain Zaidi’s Dongri to Dubai: Six Decades of the Mumbai Mafia is a slowburn crime thriller with criminal characters trapped in a sordid system that fosters treachery. At a running time of almost ten hours, it gives us a lot of time to think for an answer to that ultimate crime conundrum: does crime pay? How much did Excel Entertainment make out of this deal. By the way?...

Haunted House Horror Thriller from India - 'The Underbug' Fest Trailer
Image
"You think you're safe?" Oooh this is creepy! An eerie festival promo trailer has debuted for an indie horror film from India called The Underbug, the latest film from director Shujaat Saudagar. It's premiering later this week at the 2023 Slamdance Film Festival, hence why this trailer is available. As India is ravaged by sectarian violence on the eve of its Independence Day, two rioters take refuge in an abandoned house. An eerie presence in the house, however, haunts the men to the edge of sanity. There is some kind of strange snail in this with black tentacles sticking out of it, the rest of it just seems scary and unsettling in the best of ways. The Underbug stars Ali Fazal, Hussain Dalal, & Areenah Fatima. This looks like an extra freaky low budget haunted house horror film, with the poster offering a big hint as to what's going on. Have a look.
