You Don’t Get to Destroy Them Just Because They’re Gone: Character Assassination & The Fate Worse Than Death
Image
Do you ever randomly think about something and get angry all over again as if it’s a fresh wound?

Because that’s what it’s like when thinking about the character assassination of some of your favorite characters. Some things are impossible to get over, and that’s high up on the list.

It hasn’t been that long since 9-1-1: Lone Star signed off with its final season, but one thing still weighs heavily on a girl’s mind: the frustrating destruction of Grace Ryder.

(NBC/Virgina Sherwood, Fox/Jordin Althaus) Tampering with Lasting Legacy

I’m sorry if this is a dead horse, but I’m about to beat it because I still cannot get over how 9-1-1: Lone Star wrote out Grace Ryder.

The issue is that the final season of this 9-1-1 spinoff was so disappointing that it felt almost...

9-1-1 Moves to Another State With New Spinoff Officially Ordered at ABC
Image
The hit series 9-1-1: Lone Star recently came to an end, but the franchise will be moving forward with another spinoff series to fill the empty void that's created. This time, the show will be focusing on emergency responders working in Tennessee.

Per Deadline, it's been revealed that a new show, 9-1-1: Nashville, is coming to ABC for the 2025-26 season. It was previously reported that a new 9-1-1 offshoot was in development, though details weren't confirmed about its location. Currently, no information is known about the plot of the new series beyond its setting in Nashville, and no cast members have been announced. It can be presumed that a team of first responders will be at the heart of the story.

‘9-1-1: Lone Star’ Boss Unpacks Firefighters’ Fate After Asteroid Catastrophe — and Mateo’s Daca Storyline
Image
Note: This article contains spoilers from the series finale of “9-1-1: Lone Star.”

Despite Austin being hit with both an asteroid and a nuclear disaster on Monday night’s “9-1-1: Lone Star” series finale, all of the main characters walked away with their lives.

The episode briefly led us to believe that both Tommy Vega (Gina Torres) and Owen Strand (Rob Lowe) had died, but in the end, executive producer Rashad Raisani didn’t have the heart to kill anyone off the Fox first responder drama.

“I wanted people to leave with a sense of hope,” Raisani told TheWrap in a phone call before the finale aired. “It’s sad enough that the thing is ending, in my opinion, too soon. Why punch people in the stomach on their way out the door?”

Raisani revealed that he promised Torres, whose character was fighting breast cancer and seemed the closest to death,...

The huge question going into Fox’s 9-1-1: Lone Star season five episode 12 is will all the characters fans have grown to know and love survive. Could someone be killed off in episode 12, the series finale? Rob Lowe spoke to Entertainment Weekly about that possibility but didn’t give away any spoilers.

“Is there a world where Owen dies heroically? Does he live, does he not? And same for everybody else,” said Lowe. “This is a show where it’s totally organic on any given day that any one of these characters could have something really bad happen to them. I mean, that’s not pushed reality — it’s the reality of what first responders go through. So we were debating, ‘Do we want to push that button…...

9-1-1: Lone Star Can Vilify Grace After Sierra McClain's Exit
Image
Many were concerned about how 9-1-1: Lone Star would handle Sierra McClain's exit in season 5, and, unfortunately, her character's absence has led to some problems that could make Grace the villain. The Fox procedural drama TV show created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Tim Minear is a spinoff of 9-1-1. It premiered in January 2020 and follows a group of first responders living in Austin, Texas, including McClain's Grace, who has been around since season 1.

9-1-1: Lone Star season 5 returns in 2025 with its final three episodes, starting on Monday, January 20, at 8 pm Et on Fox. Its series finale will air on February 3.

Unfortunately, McClain's Grace left 9-1-1: Lone Star in season 5 as the actress decided to exit the series. So, the writers had to figure out a way to write Grace out in a way that would satisfy the audience and...

Why Sierra McClain's Grace Left 9-1-1 Lone Star In Season 5
Image
A few months ahead of the 9-1-1: Lone Star season 5 premiere, it was announced that Sierra McClain wouldn't be reprising her role as Grace Ryder in the show's final episodes. McClain had been a part of the 9-1-1: Lone Star cast since its first season. So, the news of her leaving the Fox procedural drama TV series was shocking, to say the least. McClain's character, Grace, also had many responsibilities and connections to other characters in 9-1-1: Lone Star, which made her exit difficult to navigate.

The speculation of whether 9-1-1: Lone Star would end after season 5 ran rampant in the months leading up to its premiere. After 9-1-1's move to ABC, it seemed like it was only a matter of time before its spinoff got canceled (or potentially moved to a different network or streaming service). Unfortunately, Fox canceled 9-1-1: Lone Star a few...

911: Lone Star boss explains changes in Judd due to Sierra McClain's exit
Image
911: Lone Star fans are surprised at the new plotline with Judd which turns out to be because of a huge cast exit!

Caution: This article contains Spoilers for 911: Lone Star Season 5

911: Lone Star fans were already upset to learn that Season 5 would be the last for the Fox spinoff. It got worse when it was announced Sierra McClain would not be returning for it. Her marriage to firefighter Judd (Jim Parrack) was one of the highlights of the show. It also made little sense narratively as Judd had just quit the 126 and was raising paralyzed son Wyatt (Jackson Pace).

The season premiere explained Grace had been moved to join a missionary group with Judd seemingly supportive of it. Helping the team in an emergency had Judd returning to the 126 but now as a probie.

The midseason finale had Owen (Rob Lowe) surprised to be offered...

9-1-1: Lone Star Season 5 Is About To Make Grace's Frustrating Exit So Much More Upsetting
Image
Spoiler alert: The following article contains spoilers from 9-1-1: Lone Star season 5, episode 9, "Fall From Grace."

Even though many things were going on in the 9-1-1: Lone Star season 5 finale, one of the standout moments concerned Judd and how he had been dealing with Grace's frustrating exit. As many know, Sierra McClain, who began playing Grace in season 1 of the Fox procedural drama, exited the series ahead of season 5 (reportedly due to contract negotiations). So, the writers had to cut Grace from the final season's story. Unfortunately, though, Grace's 9-1-1: Lone Star exit was so disappointing, thanks to one glaring issue, and the fall finale surely didn't fix the character's upsetting departure.

Following the season 5 fall finale, 9-1-1: Lone Star is going on a seven-week hiatus before returning on Monday, January 20, 2025, at 8 pm Et on Fox. Then, only one episode remains until...

9-1-1: Lone Star Update Means It Can No Longer Fix Its Season 5 Blunder
Image
As Fox airs the last season of 9-1-1: Lone Star, the show has issues to address to wrap up its story, but the series cannot fix one of its biggest mistakes before the finale. The procedural drama is a spinoff of the hit show 9-1-1, which moved from Fox to ABC in 2024 and is in the midst of airing its eighth season. While 9-1-1 has excelled following its transition, 9-1-1: Lone Star is ending after season 5. Some hope that the characters will live on in other 9-1-1 shows, but for now, their stories will end during the season 5 finale.

The fall finale of 9-1-1: Lone Star, "Fall From Grace," season 5 airs on December 2 at 8 pm Et on Fox, and will return on January 20, 2025, at the same time. Meanwhile, the series finale of 9-1-1: Lone Star is scheduled for February 3.

‘9-1-1: Lone Star’ Showrunner Shares Update On Sierra McClain’s Grace Ahead Of Finale
Image
As 9-1-1: Lone Star prepares to come to an end, fans will be missing closure from one character who’s been there since the beginning.

Co-showrunner Rashad Raisani recently broke the news that Sierra McClain will not reprise her role as 9-1-1 operator Grace Ryder ahead of the Fox procedural’s series finale on Feb. 3, 2025, following her exit amid contract renegotiations in June.

“Not for lack of effort,” Raisani told TVLine about attempts to have McClain return.

Grace’s exit was explained earlier in the fifth and final season when her firefighter husband Judd (Jim Parrack) noted she was doing missionary work with real-life Christian nonprofit Mercy Ships, which sends hospital ships around the world to provide life-saving surgeries.

“The only thing that I think could get Grace away from her family was this higher calling, which has been a part of her character from day one,...

Who Is Marlene Harris? Robyn Lively's 9-1-1: Lone Star Character, Explained
Image
Fox's 9-1-1: Lone Star began airing in 2020 and is now in its fifth and final season. With just six episodes remaining, the show is trying to wrap up important storylines while also setting its characters up for a future that viewers can imagine them in. 9-1-1: Lone Star jumped forward nine months -- also about the same amount of time it was off the air due to the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes and Fox delaying the show's return to Fall 2024 -- so that some of its storylines could progress differently and so far it is proving to be an excellent season for the procedural.

Set in Austin, Texas, 9-1-1: Lone Star follows the firefighters and paramedics at Firehouse 126, led by Captain Owen Strand (Rob Lowe) and Paramedic Captain Tommy Vega (Gina Torres). Strand is a transplant from New York City who came to Austin after the 126 experienced a terrible tragedy,...

9-1-1: Lone Star Season 5's Returning Star Is Owen's Final Chance At Love
Image
Spoiler alert: The following article contains spoilers from 9-1-1: Lone Star season 5, episode 5, "Thunderstruck."

With only seven episodes to go, 9-1-1: Lone Star season 5, episode 5, "Thunderstruck," brings back one character who, in retrospect, could be the perfect person for Owen. The Fox procedural drama TV show created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Tim Minear follows the personal and work lives of first responders in Austin, Texas. More specifically, 9-1-1: Lone Star heavily revolves around Station 126, a firehouse led by Rob Lowe's Owen, a firefighter captain.

Owen moved from New York City to Austin with his son, Tk, at the start of 9-1-1: Lone Star. While Owen has been a great captain, friend, and father, he has also been unlucky in love for almost the whole series. His relationship with Gwyn Morgan had been a rollercoaster for years, even before the show began,...

Judd's Future After Grace's 9-1-1: Lone Star Season 5 Fate Explained By Showrunner
Rashad Raisani
Warning: Spoilers ahead for 9-1-1: Lone Star season 5, episode 1!9-1-1: Lone Star showrunner Rashad Raisani explains Judd's (Jim Parrack) future in season 5 following Grace (Sierra McClain) leaving, revealing how the final season will develop his character further. During the premiere episode of 9-1-1: Lone Star season 5, it was confirmed Grace had left the team and her family to volunteer at Mercy Ships, a real-life non-profit focused on sending medical aid to those in need, particularly children. This results in a more isolated season for Judd, who recently quit his job to take care of his son, Wyatt (Jackson Pace) following an injury that paralyzed him last season.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Raisani explained how having Grace leave 9-1-1: Lone Star to volunteer at Mercy Ships made Judd's frustration more complex, as he understands his wife is doing something for the good of the world.

9-1-1: Lone Star Boss Explains Final Season's Time Jump
Image
The fifth and final season of 9-1-1: Lone Star introduces a time jump to the popular procedural drama. Co-showrunner Rashad Raisani recently explained the reason for the decision, saying that it was partly due to the amount of real time that passed between Season 4 and 5.

"That was actually the primary factor," Raisani told Variety. "It had been a year in real life, and we just thought it'd be strange to pretend like this gap in time hadn't really happened in people's lives. I think the other thing that factored in was that we just thought it would be a great opportunity to advance people's lives in big ways, so that we could hit people with fresh, big surprises. You're kind of catching up to them."

Sierra Aylina McClain in Empire (2015)
Why Grace's 911 Lone Star Exit Is So Disappointing (& How The Finale Can Fix It)
Sierra Aylina McClain in Empire (2015)
Spoiler alert: The following article contains spoilers from the 9-1-1: Lone Star season 5 premiere, "Both Sides, Now."

Writing Grace Ryder out of 9-1-1: Lone Star satisfyingly was always going to be tough, but the reasoning behind her departure is still frustrating and fell short of expectations. The Fox procedural drama TV series is sadly coming to an end after season 5, and it has to do so without Sierra McClain's Grace. Without McClain available to properly send her character off, the writers had to make do with what resources they had while scripting Grace's exit in the 9-1-1: Lone Star season 5 premiere. Unfortunately, their best was disappointing and didn't do Grace any justice.

The 9-1-1: Lone Star season 5 premiere features a one-year time jump from the events of the season 4 finale.

During 9-1-1: Lone Star season 5, episode 1, many changes came to the 126 and beyond.

9-1-1: Lone Star Showrunner Defends Grace's Surprising Exit Storyline: "We Did All We Could"
Rashad Raisani
Warning: Spoilers ahead for 9-1-1: Lone Star season 5, episode 1!9-1-1: Lone Star showrunner Rashad Raisani has defended Grace's (Sierra McClain) surprising exit storyline, explaining the reasoning behind how she was written out of the show. 9-1-1: Lone Star season 5 sees Judd (Jim Parrack) reveal Grace left to volunteer with Mercy Ships, a real-world faith organization helping with life-saving surgeries for those in need, such as orphaned children. This explanation is a polarizing one, however, given her decision to leave home to help orphans around the world means she's also leaving behind her two-year-old daughter, alongside her recently paralyzed son, Wyatt (Jackson Pace).

Speaking with TVLine, Raisani defended the idea of Grace leaving her family behind for Mercy Ships in 9-1-1: Lone Star season 5. The showrunner explained how they didn't want to kill off McClain's character, deciding instead that a higher calling...

9-1-1: Lone Star EP Hints At One Cast Member's Potential Return In Season 5

9-1-1: Lone Star co-showrunner and executive producer Rashad Raisani hints that one cast member will return for the show's final episodes. 9-1-1: Lone Star season 5 will have a lot to address as the 9-1-1 spinoff prepares to sign off. There's the exit of original cast member Sierra McClain, who parted ways with her role as Grace Ryder, causing reverberations for the rest of the first-responder drama. But other cast members, such as Rafael Silva's Carlos Reyes, will also be going on their own journey.

In an interview with Screen Rant's Rachel Foertsch, ahead of the debut of 9-1-1: Lone Star season 5 on Monday, September 23 at 8 Pm on Fox, Raisani was asked whether recurring cast member Benito Martinez might appear in the show's final episodes. The 911: Lone Star bosses have addressed how they're going to handle the surprise exit of Grace and what it means for season 5!

911: Lone Star fans are in for a bittersweet time this fall. After taking a whole year off due to the 2023 Hollywood strikes, the series is finally ready to return. Sadly, this comes with the confirmation this will be the last season for the first responder drama.

Season 4 left off with some dramatic moments: Tk and Carlos got married despite Carlos mourning his murdered father; Owen aided his dying half-brother (Chad Lowe) in taking his own life; Tommy was getting more serious with her pastor boyfriend; and, most importantly, Judd (Jim Parrack) leaving the 126 to care for his son Wyatt (Jackson Pace) who was paralyzed after being hit by a car.

However, plans for the season hit a huge snag when Sierra McClain, who played dispatcher and Judd's wife Grace,...

9-1-1: Lone Star's "Apocalyptic Ending" Teased By EP Ahead Of Series Finale
Image
9-1-1: Lone Star co-showrunner and executive producer Rashad Raisani has teased the ending of the show ahead of its final season, promising an "apocalyptic ending" during the series finale. The 9-1-1 spinoff follows New York City firefighter Owen Strand (Rob Lowe) moving to Austin, Texas, balancing his personal life with the new duties he has in the city. Despite delayed news surrounding its renewal, partially because of dwindling ratings, it was later announced that 9-1-1: Lone Star season 5 would be happening. Although it was later confirmed this will be the final season of the long-running spinoff.

Speaking with TV Insider, Raisani teased how 9-1-1: Lone Star is going to end, promising an exciting series finale as he reveals the last two episodes have yet to be edited together. The co-showrunner said the finale episodes would close out the show in satisfying ways for its characters, while also leaving the audience wanting more.

Why 9-1-1: Lone Star Is Ending After Season 5
Image
It's a sad day for 9-1-1 fans 9-1-1: Lone Star is ending following season 5, and unlike the original show, it isn't expected to be picked up by another network or streaming service. The Fox procedural drama TV series, created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Tim Minear, serves as a spinoff to 9-1-1 and debuted in January 2020 (which was not exactly the best time for a new show to premiere). Nevertheless, 9-1-1: Lone Star benefited from the success of its predecessor. But with 9-1-1 gone from Fox, the network has also chosen to part ways with the spinoff.

9-1-1: Lone Star season 5 will contain 12 episodes and premiere on Monday, September 23, 2024, at 8 pm Et on Fox.

Even though 9-1-1: Lone Star was technically safe after Fox canceled 9-1-1 in 2023, it was seemingly only a matter of time before the spinoff followed suit.

‘911: Lone Star’ Ending With Season 5 on Fox
Image
The forthcoming season of 911: Lone Star will be its last at Fox.

The series, a Texas-set spinoff of 911 (which now airs on ABC after moving from Fox last season), is set to begin its fifth season on Sept. 23. The show took the 2023-24 season off following last year’s labor strikes, and speculation that the coming season would mark the end of its Fox run has been widespread.

Season five will run for 12 episodes, with a series finale airing early next year.

“From the start, fans have followed the heroic and deeply moving stories of the men and women who make up Austin’s 126, so a huge thanks to one of the greatest creative teams in all of television — Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear — for creating one of the most action-packed dramas anywhere.” said Fox Television Network president Michael Thorn in a statement. “Now in our final season of the show,...

Marjan's life is put at risk in the 911: Lone Star season 5 trailer
Image
911: Lone Star just revealed the first trailer showing the huge disaster putting one firefighter in danger! Here’s what else we know!

It’s been a long wait for fans of 911: Lone Star. Like all network shows, season 5 was delayed by the 2023 Hollywood strikes. By the time they ended in November, Fox decided it was best that the procedural be held off until the 2024-2025 TV season.

That’s mostly due to logistics as the show needs a lot of time to film its big action sequences with the cast. There’s also the wrinkle of the mothership 911 series moving to ABC, robbing Lone Star of a lead-in. That's led to worries on the show's ratings suffering without the more successful 911 on the air.

Speculation has been high that season 5 could be the final one for the series. It's fueled by how Sierra McClain exited the series as Grace Ryder.

‘9-1-1: Lone Star’ Season 5 Trailer: Catastrophic Train Derailment Unleashes “Poison Cloud Of Death”
Image
“Dispatch, we have a problem.” That’s putting it mildly. We’re getting the first look at Season 5 of 9-1-1: Lone Star and it promises to be devastating for Austin’s 126, led by Rob Lowe’s Captain Owen Strand.

Fox released the first trailer Monday for the fifth season which premieres September 23 on the network and next day on Hulu.

As Deadline previously reported, there has been rampant speculation that the 12-episode fifth season will be the last, but there’s no indication of that in the trailer. That speculation picked up speed when we learned that Sierra McClain, one of the series regulars, quietly left the series following some cast renegotiation drama.

In the upcoming fifth season, Captains Strand (Lowe) and Vega (Gina Torres) along with the 126 team, race into action when a catastrophic train derailment endangers several lives, including some of their own. With Judd (Jim Parrack...

‘9-1-1: Lone Star’ Season 5 Trailer: The 126 Faces ‘Poison Cloud of Death’ at Train Derailment (Video)
Image
“Dispatch, we have a problem,” Captain Owen Strand (Rob Lowe) says in the 9-1-1: Lone Star Season 5 trailer. And as we can see, that may be an understatement. The 126 is the first on the scene of a train derailment, and they’re dealing with chlorine gas. As the trailer, which you can watch below, shows, Wyatt is now a dispatcher, plus the 126 is going to be in serious danger. When 9-1-1: Lone Star returns for its fifth season, with the premiere on Monday, September 23 at 8/7c, Owen, Captain Tommy Vega (Gina Torres), and the rest of the 126 race into action in a multi-episodic opening storyline with that catastrophic train derailment that endangers several lives, including some of their own. When TV Insider spoke with Lowe in May, he raved about “the scale and spectacle of the train derailment and the arduousness of shooting it. I mean, I love it.

‘9-1-1: Lone Star’ Season 5 Trailer Previews Horrific Train Derailment: ‘Dispatch, We Have a Problem’ | Video
Rob Lowe and Gina Torres in 9-1-1: Lone Star (2020)
The Season 5 premiere of “9-1-1: Lone Star” promises an epic disaster to kick off the Fox series’ return: A train full of toxic chemicals crashes, leading to a “poison cloud of death,” as dispatch tells the rattled firefighters of the 126 in the trailer that Fox shared on Monday.

Captain Owen Strand (Rob Lowe), channels Tom Hanks in “Apollo 13,” when he says, “Dispatch, we have a problem,” after seeing that passengers who survived the crash are bleeding from their eyes and mouth.

The multi-episode arc puts both Strand’s firefighters and Captain Tommy Vega’s paramedics team in danger. (Watch the trailer in the video above.)

Meanwhile, Judd (Jim Parrack) resigns to take care of his recently handicapped son Wyatt (Jackson Pace). As was previously reported, Sierra McClain, the actress who has played Judd’s wife for four seasons, will not be returning for Season 5. Her departure has sparked speculation...
